A preliminary study of marine water quality status using principal component analysis at three selected mangrove estuaries in East Coast Peninsular Malaysia
This research presents marine water quality status in three different mangrove estuaries. The objective of this study is to evaluate the surface water quality of three estuaries in east coast Peninsular Malaysia. The parameters measured were Dissolved Oxygen (DO), pH, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), total dissolved solid (TDS), ammonium (NH4-N), turbidity (TUR), total suspended solid (TSS) and coliform. Monthly sampling was performed during the dry season, from June 2016 until September 2016. Data were analysed using principal component analysis (PCA). PCA yielded two PCs where VF1 forms strong factor loadings for pH, NH4-N, SAL, and TDS signifying saltwater intrusion in mangrove area. VF2 designed strong factors of BOD, TUR and Coliform and strong negative loading of DO indicating anthropogenic pollutions in the area. This study output will be a baseline setting for future studies in mangrove estuary marine water quality. Mangrove marine water samples of future monitoring studies in mangrove estuary will benefit by enabling understanding of pollution loading and coastal water quality. It is essential to plan a workable water quality modelling as powerful tool to simulate marine water quality and forecast future consequences to facilitate mangrove biodiversity conservation
Assessment of Seasonal and Spatial Surface Marine Water Quality Variation in Semerak River Estuary, Malaysia
Mangrove estuary is a part of the mangrove ecosystem which plays an important role for the whole ecosystem. Purposely, this study is to assess the spatial and seasonal variation of surface marine water quality in Semerak River estuary. Dissolved oxygen (DO), unionized ammonia (NH3N), total suspended solid (TSS), nitrate (NO3), oil and grease (O&G), phosphate (PO4), faecal coliform (FC), pH, salinity and conductivity are the measured parameters using in-situ and ex-situ technique. Surface marine water samples collected in two mon-soon -Southwest Monsoon (July 2016 to September 2016) and Northeast Monsoon (November 2016 to January 2017). The analytical and statistical results indicate that the surface water of the Semerak River estuary that the possible pollution sources coming from major agri-culture, fertilizers, fishing boat and sand mining, natural environment from weathering of geologic sources, surface runoff and oil-spill from fishing boat. Marine water samples of future monitoring studies in mangrove estuary will benefit by enabling understanding of pollution loading and coastal water quality. PREDICTION MODEL OF MISSING DATA: A CASE STUDY OF PM10 ACROSS MALAYSIA REGION
PM 10 is one of the major concerns that have high potential for harmful effects on human health. Thus, prediction of PM 10 was performed with the objectives to model suitable PM 10 prediction formula to predict the concentration of PM 10 . Imputation methods of EMB-algorithm and nearest neighbor were applied to treat missing data before analyzed by Fit model, MLR and ANN. R 2 obtained for Fit-model, MLR and ANN using imputation method of EMB-algorithm and nearest neighbor are (0.9975, 0.3858), (0.9623, 0.3857) and (0.9975, 0.4025) respectively. Sensitivity analysis (SA) shows humidity, temperature, CO, UVB and O 3 out of fifteen parameters contribute the most to the present of PM 10 concentration. In conclusion, formula for the best PM 10 prediction can be modeled by using ANN or Fit model together with the imputation method of EMB-algorithm
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Prototype design of rainwater harvesting and solar irrigation system for small - scale farm
The current irrigation system at Taman Tanaman Dapur that used by the Faculty of Bioresources and Food
Industry (FBIM) is operated manually, and the water source is directly from Syarikat Air Terengganu (SATU).
The cost incurred to maintain the current system is expensive therefore, the UniSZA fund for maintenance
purpose. By observing these factors, there is an opportunity to improve the irrigation system by utilising the
available natural resources in the form of sun and rain, respectively, as a source of energy and water. Thus, the
objectives of this project are to design and validate the prototype of rainwater harvesting and solar irrigation
system for small scale farm use. By utilising the prototype, it is possible to take advantage of the available natural
resources resulting in a technological advancement that optimises the energy usage producing a cost-effective,
efficient irrigation system. The prototype design was carried out using a two-dimensional computer-aided design
software, AutoCAD. Furthermore, the prototype development was carried out and validated with several
readily-available types of equipment in the laboratory as well as equipment that could be obtained by local
farmers or individuals. As a result, after going through phases of prototype creations, from the proof of concept,
through mock-up testing, and pre-production, it has been well-function as designated. The value of Gross
Irrigation Requirement (GIR) for this study was 308.22 mm/month while the minimum requirement of power
production from the solar panel output was 0.552 kWh. More improvement can be made for further
development of the prototype by integrating with other technologies such as attach it with moisture sensor and
timer for the optimum condition
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Pollution Sources Identification of Water Quality Using Chemometrics: a Case Study in Klang River Basin, Malaysia
The objectives of this paper are to review the status of Klang River Basin and to investigate the most significant pollutant using chemometric techniques. The extraction of secondary physico-chemical water quality data by Department of Environment, Malaysia from 2003 to 2007 were taken. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) used to identify the significant water quality parameters and Abso-lute Principal Component Scores-Multiple Linear Regression (APCS-MLR) was applied to evaluate which pollution source contributed the most significant from the other factors. Then, Hierarchical Agglomerative Cluster Analysis (HACA) was used to find which monitor-ing station of Klang River provided the most significant pollutant. The result shows 9 PCs (75% of the total variance) which extracted from PCA. APCS-MLR model revealed anthropogenic activities which NH3-N as the main parameter is the most significant in Klang River. Based on HACA specified 1K16 has the highest amount of NH3-N concentration in Klang River. Therefore, the utilization of envirometric techniques achieved the research objectives which will beneficial for present and future river water quality management
