Changes of physical properties of glass surfaces exposed to KNO3 vapors

    No full text
Modifications of glass surfaces were studied after exposure of samples to an atmosphere resulting from the decomposition of molten KNO3. The diffusion coefficient of K+ ions migrating into the surfaces of float glass and synthesized glasses doped with up to 5 wt% SnO2 was calculated by the Boltzmann-Matano technique. The Vickers hardness and the refractive index increase with exposure time. Infrared spectra show that the migration of K+ is responsible for an increase in the number of non-bridging oxygens in the exposed samples. The spectra of the synthesized glasses present evidences that their surfaces undergo crystallization during the exposure. All results lead to the conclusion that the presence of tin in the glasses hinders the diffusion of K+ ions, thus affecting the Vickers hardness, the refractive index and the infrared spectra. It is shown that the exposure method can be used as an alternative process to promote the K+ migration into glass surfaces. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. Magnetic spheres in microwave cavities

    No full text
We apply Mie scattering theory to study the interaction of magnetic spheres with microwaves in cavities beyond the magnetostatic and rotating wave approximations. We demonstrate that both strong and ultrastrong coupling can be realized for stand alone magnetic spheres made from yttrium iron garnet (YIG), acting as an efficient microwave antenna. The eigenmodes of YIG spheres with radii of the order mm display distinct higher angular momentum character that has been observed in experiments.QN/Quantum NanoscienceApplied Science

    Incubator

    No full text
This short article starts from tracing the origin of the term incubator and explains why the term now is closely associated with the support of early stage ventures. It provides a definition for business incubator and also point out differences between incubators and science/technology parks by highlighting its exclusive focus on early stage ventures. It outlines the four key components which an incubator normally possess and also summarize the various goals of establishing an incubator from public and private sector perspective. It concludes that the past researches show business incubators are instrumental and effective in enhancing the survival rate of start-ups

    Eigenvectors of isospectral graph transformations

    No full text
L.A. Bunimovich and B.Z. Webb developed a theory for isospectral graph reduction. We make a simple observation regarding the relation between eigenvectors of the original graph and its reduction, that sheds new light on this theory. As an application we propose an updating algorithm for the maximal eigenvector of the Markov matrix associated to a large sparse dynamical network. The first author was partially supported by Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, PEst, OE/MAT/UI0209/2011.The second author was partially supported by the Research Centre of Mathematics of the University of Minho with the Portuguese Funds from the "Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia", through the Project PEstOE/MAT/UI0013/2014

Perlin, Chişinău, 20-22 septembrie 2012The author has carried out a karyometric analysis of intertissue correlations between “epithelium-mesenchyma” of the human oral cavity on 45 series of histological sections of human embryos and prefetuses, measuring 2.5-70.0 mm of the parieto-coccygeal length (PCL, рос. – ТКД), aged 3-12 weeks of intrauterine development (levels X-XII of development according to Stritter and stages 9-23 of Carnegie’s Institute). It has been established that prior to the appearance of morphological differences between various versions of the epithelia and mesenchymal derivatives of the oral cavity, the cell nuclei significantly differ by their dimensions. The most differentiated tissues of the human oral cavity have cells with nuclei of smaller sizes

Los países en vías de desarrollo aportan el mayor número de defunciones causadas por deshidratación. Esta muerte es inexplicable desde una perspectiva técnica, ya que es prevenible en el 95% de los casos, si se rehidrata al niño con suero oral

World trade organization and the renewable energy sources cases: How to achieve the SDG7?

    No full text
This article discusses in detail disputes resolved by the WTO Dispute Settlement Body (hereinafter referred to as the WTO DSB) in the field of state subsidies to support the use of renewable energy sources (hereinafter referred to as the RES). Since 2010, eight cases have been filed with the WTO DSB in relation to RES subsidy programs. The author analyzes the case and shows the impact of increasing the number of such trade disputes on further development of renewable energy in the whole world, and in separate states. The author pays special attention to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7, which were approved by the UN for 2016-2030, in the context of the spread of RES in the context of the conditions of WTO DSB case practice. © 2020, by ASERS® Publishing.
