This is an accepted manuscript of an article published by CRC Press (Taylor & Francis) in Security and Organization within IoT and Smart Cities (in press), available online: https://www.routledge.com/Security-and-Organization-within-IoT-and-Smart-Cities/Ghafoor-Curran-Kong-Sadiq/p/book/9780367893330 The accepted version of the publication may differ from the final published version.Waste management has been a serious issue in urban areas due to the population growth. An appropriate solid waste management system is needed to improve the cleanliness of the environment. On the other hand, the rapid growth of the wide adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) within the context of smart cities has motivated numerous number of studies investigating new solutions that could be helpful in mitigating and solving the waste management issue. Despite the existence of such methods have been introduced and used in managing waste’s location, volume and the optimal path for collection, yet these IoT based technologies are vulnerable to misinformation kinds of cyber attack. Consequently these types of attacks will yield crucial impact on the decided collection path and the frequency of garbage trucks visiting the fake reported waste points, which obviously costs money and time. Hence, this chapter proposes a trusted crowd associated network architecture that uses a group of components to monitor waste and provide optimum collection route for the garbage truck. Netlogo a multi-agent platform has been used to simulate a real time monitoring on waste management as a proof of concept. Our proposed approach measures the waste level data then updates and records them continuously. An optimal route will then be provided to the garbage truck for the optimal waste’s collection once a certain number of bins have reached a predefined threshold (combination of weight and height values). Three simulation scenarios are defined, implemented, and their results have been validated. The performance measure shows that our proposed solution could provide an aid waste management companies in reducing cost and time in the waste collection process, which supports the integration plans of IoT technology within smart cities

The main objective of this work was to investigate the effectiveness of digital processing of Landsat-5 TM data in producing high-quality images for mapping various surficial sand types based on their spectral signatures. To achieve this objective, Landsat-5 TM imagery data were acquired from two dates, one in February 1987 and the other in June 1990. These data were processed on a SUN 4/260 workstation using ERDAS 7.5 software. The applied image processing techniques include preprocessing for radiometric and geometric correction, various enhancement methods, classification and accuracy assessment. A Geographic Information System (GIS) was used to compile data captured and reduced from Landsat TM imagery analysis, together with data from other sources. Spectral measurement of selected surficial sand types was carried out in four different areas of Qatar. These are the western area, the northern tip, the northeastern coast and the southeastern coast. One hundred and forty measurements of spectral reflectances were recorded in the field for various sediment exposures representing the main sand types in the four study areas. From these sand types 53 representative samples were collected for laboratory investigations. These samples were subjected to grain size analyses, X-ray diffraction and laboratory measurement of spectral reflectances. Successful, accurate and detailed geological mapping of these Quaternary sands was achieved by use of a set of diverse false-color composite (FCC) images and by principal component (PC) analysis and image classification. The use of a three-band combination of six non-thermal TM bands indicates that the combination of a visible band (1 or 3), near and mid-infrared bands provides the best discrimination of sand classes. The outcrop of ancient rock types is also revealed. Thus, the results of the remote sensing studies are interpreted in the light of the geologic and tectonic setting of Qatar Peninsula. The work revealed that the surficial aeolian sands can be categorized into three main types, namely-(i) sabkha-derived, salt-rich quartz sands, (ii) beach-derived, calcareous sand and (iii) quartz-rich dune sands. Each of these types has a specific spectral signature affected by the mineralogical composition, grain size, erosional maturity and the mode of occurrence. Such results could be useful to discriminate other surficial deposits in similar environmental conditions prevailing in and lands.</p

There are substantial socioeconomic differences in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in most western countries. Socioeconomic differences in cardiovascular risk factors (obesity/overweight, tobacco smoking, leisure time physical activity, dietary habits) are correspondingly large. The main aim of this study is to investigate the influence of psychosocial work conditions and social capital on cardiovascular risk factors at different levels: health locus of control, leisure time physical activity, body mass index (BMI) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The 2000 public health survey in Scania is a cross-sectional postal questionnaire study of a randomly selected sample of people born 1919-1981 from the population registers, conducted in November 1999 to February 2000. A total of 13,715 persons, 59% of the random sample, responded, In papers I and II, 5,180 persons aged 18?64 years that belonged to the work force or were unemployed were included. In paper III, 1,967 females, aged 18-34, were investigated. Paper IV is a prospective cohort study using the 2000 survey as baseline, linked to AMI morbidity/mortality data for January 2000-December 2002. Logistic regression models were used in papers I, II and III, to investigate associations between psychosocial factors at work and unemployment, and lack of belief in the possibility to influence one's own health (paper I), and low leisure time physical activity (paper II), and to investigate the association between the socio-economic, psychosocial, health behaviour, self reported global and psychological health and locus of control, and BMI in paper III. In paper IV, hazard rate ratios for first time AMI (fatal and non-fatal) were analysed ccording to social participation, trust and their combinations. In paper I significantly higher odds ratios of lack of internal locus of control were observed in the passive, jobstrain and unemployed categories, compared to the relaxed reference category. These patterns remained in the multivariate models, with the exception of the passive and unemployed categories among men in which the significant differences disappeared. The control dimension seems to be of greatest importance. In paper II significantly higher odds ratios of low leisure-time physical activity among both men and women were observed in the jobstrain and unemployed categories compared to the relaxed reference category. However, these significant differences disappeared after adjustment for education. In paper III adjustments were only made for age in the analyses, but the results show important socioeconomic, psychosocial and lifestyle differences between underweight compared to overweight/obese young women. Young women with underweight had significantly higher odds ratios of working overtime, being students, having low emotional support, having poor self reported global as well as poor psychological health, while women with overweight/obesity were unemployed, daily smokers, had low education, low social participation, low emotional and instrumental support, sedentary lifestyle, poor self reported global health and external locus of control compared to normal weight women. In paper IV, particularly low social participation and the social participation/trust categories traditionalism (low social participation/high trust) and low social capital (low social participation/low trust) were significantly associated with an increased risk of AMI. After adjustments for age, sex, education, economic stress, physical activity, daily smoking, BMI and self reported health only the significantly increased risk of first ever AMI remains in the low social participation/high trust category

Including material and photographs not included in most of the 100 other books about the champion, Ishmael Reed's The Complete Muhammad Ali is more than just a biography-it is a fascinating portrait of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. An honest, balanced portrayal of Ali, the book includes voices that have been omitted from other books. It charts Ali's evolution from Black Nationalism to a universalism, but does not discount the Nation of Islam and Black Nationalism's important influence on his intellectual development. Filipino American author Emil Guillermo speaks about how "The Thrilla' In Manila" brought the Philippines into the 20th century. Fans of Muhammad Ali, boxing fans, and those interested in modern African American history and the Nation of Islam will be fascinated by this biography by an accomplished American author.Intro -- DEDICATION -- INTRODUCTION -- The Curious History of an Icon -- CHAPTER 1 -- CHAPTER 2 -- CHAPTER 3 -- CHAPTER 4 -- CHAPTER 5 -- CHAPTER 6 -- CHAPTER 7 -- Did the Secret Government Fear a U.S. Muslim/Overseas Muslim Alliance? -- CHAPTER 8 -- CHAPTER 9 -- The Break Between the Prophet and his Disciple -- CHAPTER 10 -- CHAPTER 11 -- CHAPTER 12 -- The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time): Ali or Louis? -- CHAPTER 13 -- The Nation of Islam, the Mob, Showdowns in Canada and Sonny Liston -- CHAPTER 14 -- CHAPTER 15 -- The Taunts: Marketing or Racism? -- CHAPTER 16 -- CHAPTER 17 -- CHAPTER 18 -- CHAPTER 19 -- Boxing and the Brain -- CHAPTER 20 -- Ali's Feet -- CHAPTER 21 -- Mr. Dick -- CHAPTER 22 -- CHAPTER 23 -- The Opening Ceremonies, November 2005 -- CHAPTER 24 -- December 2005, Las Vegas -- CHAPTER 25 -- CHAPTER 26 -- June 16, 2004 -- CHAPTER 27 -- CHAPTER 28 -- CHAPTER 29 -- Aix-en-Provence -- CHAPTER 30 -- Ali as a Black Nationalist -- San Francisco, January 2004 Black Liberation Book Fair -- CHAPTER 31 -- January 31, 2004 -- CHAPTER 32 -- October 2005, Chicago -- CHAPTER 33 -- Why Ali remained with Elijah instead of following Malcolm -- CHAPTER 34 -- CHAPTER 35 -- February 4, 2006, Oakland, California -- CHAPTER 36 -- Like Zeus Descending from Mount Olympus -- CHAPTER 37 -- CHAPTER 38 -- Tuesday, February 28, 2006, New York -- CHAPTER 39 -- Bigger Than Boxing -- CHAPTER 40 -- Tribes Gallery, New York, April 2006 -- CHAPTER 41 -- June 2006, Louisville, Kentucky -- CHAPTER 42 -- CHAPTER 43 -- CHAPTER 45 -- Bad Company -- CHAPTER 46 -- Coxson, A Very Charming Rogue -- CHAPTER 47 -- Ali and the largest embezzlement scheme in Wells Fargo history -- CHAPTER 48 -- CHAPTER 49 -- "Lonnie is a stabilizing force."-Harry Belafonte -- October 29, 2006 -- CHAPTER 50 -- Abdul Rahman -- CHAPTER 51 -- CHAPTER 52 -- CHAPTER 53How Will Ali Be Remembered? Syriac-Arabic Glosses of Isho bar Ali. Volume 2

    No full text
These two volumes constitute the second part (nun-taw) of the Syriac-Arabic dictionary of the 10th cent. physician Isho bar Ali (the first half of the dictionary had been published in 1874 by G. Hoffmann). Each Syriac word is defined in Arabic, often with more than one Arabic equivalent; in addition, the author deals not just with individual Syriac words, but in some cases with phrases. Gottheil used 21 manuscripts (from Oxford, London, Paris, Berlin, Leiden, and Rome) for this edition, and he has supplied a thorough critical apparatus; the manuscripts are described in the introduction. While some manuscripts give the Arabic glosses in Syriac characters (i.e. Garshuni), Gottheil has presented them here in Arabic script. These two volumes will be of great interest to Syriac lexicographers and those who study interactions between Syriac and Arabic.Contains an English introduction by Richard J.H. Gotthei

In this article, a single layer, ultrathin, multiband, and multifunctional reflective polarization converting metasurface (PCMS) is presented that can perform linear to linear (LTL) orthogonally with respect to the incident polarization, also called cross polarization conversion (CPC), and linear to circular (LTC) polarization conversion (PC). It consists of a periodic arrangement of an inclined H-shaped metallic patch, on the top of a F4B grounded dielectric substrate. The proposed configuration converts linear polarization (LP) to an orthogonal polarization in five frequency bands, i.e., 9-10.6, 15.9-16, 18.6-22.9, 23.7-23.8, and 25.9-26.9 GHz with more than 90% polarization conversion ratio (PCR). Furthermore, the proposed metasurface design accomplishes circular polarization (CP) in eight different frequency bands namely, 8.6-8.8, 10.9-11.4, 15.6-15.8, 16.8-17.7, 22.9-23, 23.3-23.4, 25.6-25.7, and 27.3-27.5 GHz, having the required axial ratio (AR 3\le 3 dB). Multiple surface plasmonic resonances are the reason behind the different conversions. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulated results. The ultrathin, simple structure, multiband, multifunctional characteristics, and compact size of the polarization converter make it an excellent option for 5G wireless systems, satellite communication, and stealth technologies
