Frydenbø SABB Motor
Four international marketing students conducted this thesis on behalf of Frydenbø
SABB Motor AS. Frydenbø SABB Motor AS operates as a total supplier of
marine diesel engines and equipment, and of their main activities evolves around
the lifeboat engine market. The background for the thesis was Frydenbø SABB
Motor AS’ desire to establish contact with a manufacturer located in China to
produce a new engine to be launched on the Asian lifeboat market. With this new
engine Frydenbø SABB Motor AS hopes to increase their market share.
The aim for this study was therefore to provide Frydenbø SABB Motor AS with
an evaluation of potential marine diesel engine manufacturers in China, and based
on this evaluation make a recommendation of a suitable manufacturer.
In order to present a proper recommendation, the authors needed to acquire
information about several different areas regarding the lifeboat industry, cultural
differences, players in the market, international standards and so on. The
information was gathered from several different sources in various ways and both
primary and secondary information was applied.
After having gathered all information needed, the authors applied the information
in relevant theories to analyze Frydenbø SABB Motor AS’ internal and external
environment. This was done to detect and structure their strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats.
Simultaneously with gathering information on Frydenbø SABB Motor AS’
environment, the authors searched for and contacted several diesel engine
manufacturers. The authors then ended up with a selection of potential
manufacturers that were able and willing to produce the desired engine.
Finally, based on the information assembled, the authors recommended the most
suitable manufacturer, in addition with critical success factors and potential
pitfalls
Revilement (al-Sabb) of Sahabah for Each Other and the Factors behind It
There have been some narratives in Hadith literature that the companions of the Prophet Muhammad reviled (sabb) each other. In order to understand the expression of sabb correctly, the reasons of what led companions to curse need to be investigated. In this study, firstly concepts such as sabb, shatam and other related words will be examined and then the reasons for the expressions of sabb among companions and the factors which affected this will be analyzed

BLASPHEMY (SABB AL-RASŪL) AS A LEGAL CATEGORY IN EARLY AND MEDIEVAL ISLAMIC HISTORY (1ST/7TH-13TH/19th CENTURIES)
My dissertation examines the evolving discourse on blasphemy (sabb al-rasūl) as an Islamic legalcategory among capital crimes in medieval Islamic history, from 630 AD until the fall of the Ottoman
empire. Historians have generally understood blasphemy, known as sabb in the Islamic context, to
connote any act constituting insult to the Prophet Muhammad or God. Acts of sabb are generally
considered to be ḥudūd crimes in Islamic law. Ḥudūd crimes were deemed to be mandated by God and
hence unalterable by human beings, requiring mandatory sentences in the form of corporal or capital
punishment. A common view among historians has been that Muslim jurists were unanimous in
asserting that any individual, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, who reviled the Prophet (sabb al-rasūl)
was to be executed, and that not doing so would be a violation of God’s law. My dissertation
demonstrates however that historical sources present a far more complex picture, one in which the
Sunnī schools developed enormously different views on sabb depending on historical context and the
legal interpretive tools jurists prioritized. Early Ḥanafīs would take the view that the Muslim sābb could
be forgiven with repentance and have penalties revoked, while the non-Muslim sābb was not liable at
all. The advent of the Ottoman Empire, however, would shift the Ḥanafī discourse to one that embraced
irrevocable execution as the penalty for sabb. The Shāfiʿīs, to ensure that non-Muslims were penalized
at least at an equivalent level to the Muslim sābb, developed complex ʿiṣma frameworks to ensure this
result. The Mālikīs and Ḥanbalīs outwardly avoided speculative reasoning and established their claims
based on textual sources in attempts to yield “certain” results, but the multiple competing reports on
sabb ascribed to early jurists resulted in contradicting rulings in both schools. In this project I examine
judicial opinions, historical chronicles, Islamic legal texts and other sources chronologically that deal
with sabb al-rasūl, from the formation of the genre in early Islam until its sophisticated formulation in
Ottoman times. My aim is to produce an intellectual history that is both source-critical and diachronic,
with select socio-historical and comparative interventions as is relevant to the subject matter at hand
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
