Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tarjota käytännönläheisiä oivalluksia, jotka tukevat suomalaisia IT-yrityksiä niiden pyrkiessä kasvattamaan kansainvälistä asiakaskuntaansa ja lisäämään ulkomaista liikevaihtoaan. Käyttäen monitapaustutkimuksen metodologiaa, sekä benchmarking-analyysiä tutkimus selvittää, kuinka eri yritykset ovat onnistuneet kansainvälistymisessä ja pyrkii tunnistamaan keskeiset tekijät, jotka ovat edesauttaneet näiden strategioiden menestyksessä.
Tutkimusmetodologia tarjoaa perusteellisen ymmärryksen kansainvälistymisprosesseista hyödyntäen laadullisia menetelmiä. Prosessi sisältää kattavia tapaustutkimuksia tietyistä suomalaisista IT yrityksistä, jotka tunnetaan menestyneestä globaalista laajentumisestaan. Näissä tapaustutkimuksissa tarkastellaan kansainvälistymisaloitteisiin liittyviä taktiikoita, haasteita ja tuloksia sekundäärilähteiden analyysilla.
Tarjoamalla erityisiä näkemyksiä suomalaisille IT-yrityksille tutkimus pyrkii kuromaan umpeen teoreettisen ymmärryksen ja käytännön toteutuksen välisen tietokuilun. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on löytää hyödynnettäviä oppimiskokemuksia ja parhaita käytäntöjä, jotka voivat ohjata suomalaisia IT-yrityksiä niiden strategisessa päätöksenteossa vertailemalla erilaisia kansainvälistymisstrategioita.
Tutkimuksen johtopäätösten odotetaan tarjoavan arvokasta ohjausta suomalaisille IT-yrityksille, jotka haluavat laajentaa toimintaansa kansainvälisesti. Get PDFTutkimuksen aihe pohjautuu käytännössä havaittuun ongelmaan sähköisen hankintasanomavälityskentän hitaasta käyttöönotosta toimittajasektorilla. On kriittistä saada toimittajasektori aktiivisesti mukaan sähköisiin hankintatoimen käytäntöihin, jotta sähköisestä kaupankäynnistä saatavat hyödyt voidaan ottaa käyttöön koko tarjontaketjun matkalla. Toimittajasektorin tarpeita sähköisen hankintasanomavälityskentän käyttöönotossa tutkittiin julkisen hankintatoimen näkökulmasta. Tutkimus tehtiin itsenäisenä työnä samanaikaisesti käynnissä olevan julkisen hankintatoimen kehityshankkeen rinnalla. Quality Function Deployment -pohjainen malli kehitettiin tunnistamaan toimittajasektorin tarpeita käyttäjälähtöisestä näkökulmasta. Tutkimusta tehdessä nousi esille, ettei toimittajasektori itsessään ollut valmis tunnistamaan omia kehitystarpeitaan järjestelmäkehityksen näkökulmasta. Lisäksi osa mahdollisista syistä hitaaseen sähköisen hankintasanomavälityskentän käyttöönottoon on sellaisia, joita ei voida ratkaista pelkällä järjestelmäkehityksellä.The subject of research is based on practically found problem of slow implementation of supplier connectivity on the supplier sector, per se. It is critical to get the supplier sector to be an active part in implementing the e-procurement procedures in order to utilize the benefits from electronic commerce throughout the whole supply chain. The demands of a supplier sector concerning supplier connectivity were studied from the viewpoint of public procurement. The study was an individual research aligned with ongoing public procurement development project. Quality Function Deployment based model was developed to recognize supplier sector demands from end-user perspective. While conducting the study it became evident that the supplier sector was not ready to distinguish its own development demands from a software development perspective. Also, some of the possible reasons behind slow adaptation of supplier connectivity in a public procurement cannot be solved only by software development

No full textThere are many micro-enterprises, and the goal of most of them is to expand their business and improve the company's profit. External stakeholders play an important role in many micro-enterprises, and therefore it is important to study the effects relationships with external stakeholders have on companies' opportunities to expand, so that micro-enterprises can grow their business and grow from micro-enterprise into an SME.
This bachelor's thesis examines the effects of the entrepreneur's external stakeholders on the company's opportunities to expand from a micro-enterprise to an SME. The research material has been collected through qualitative semi-structured interviews, in which two entrepreneurs from different fields participated, both of whom had grown the company from a micro-enterprise to an SME.
The results of the study show that relationships with external stakeholders are important and accelerate the company's growth. Relations with external stakeholders increase opportunities, facilitate sales and bring recognition. The biggest area that external networks have an impact on is the increase in awareness and thus the opportunities.Mikroyrityksiä on erittäin paljon ja suurimman osan tavoitteena on laajentaa liiketoimintaa ja parantaa yrityksen tulosta. Ulkoiset sidosryhmät ovat monissa mikroyrityksissä tärkeässä roolissa ja siksi niiden vaikutuksia yrityksien mahdollisuuksiin laajentua on tärkeää tutkia, jotta mikroyritykset voivat kasvattaa liiketoimintaansa ja kasvaa pk-yritykseksi.
Tämä kandidaatintyö tutkii yrittäjän ulkoisten sidosryhmien vaikutuksia yrityksen mahdollisuuksiin laajentua mikroyrityksestä pk-yritykseksi. Tutkimuksen aineisto on kerätty laadullisin puolistrukturoiduin haastatteluin, joihin osallistui kaksi yrittäjää eri aloilta, jotka molemmat olivat kasvattaneet yrityksen mikroyrityksestä pk-yritykseksi.
Tutkimuksen tulokset osoittavat, että suhteet ulkoisiin sidosryhmiin ovat tärkeitä ja nopeuttavat yrityksen kasvua. Suhteet ulkoisiin sidosryhmiin lisäävät mahdollisuuksia, helpottavat myyntiä ja tuovat tunnettavuutta. Suurin osa-alue, johon ulkoisilla verkostoilla on vaikutusta, on tunnettavuuden kasvu ja sitä kautta lisääntyvät mahdollisuudet

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
