    Surana & Surana International Attorneys (S&S) is a multispecialty law firm. Since its inception in 1971, it had declined to serve clients who were in the industries of meat, tobacco, alcohol, and gambling (M-TAG). In early March 2023, a large opportunity arose from a world leader in the alcohol business. Sanjay Mehta, Head of Business Development, met Vinod Surana, CEO and Partner at S&S, to convince him about bringing change to its deep-rooted tradition of sticking to no M-TAG. Kartik and Keerti,CEO's two sons would join S&S soon after finishing their legal education. Surana had a dilemma whether to stick to the existing business philosophy of "no M-TAG" clients or be flexible, considering growing competition and the business requirements

    Therapeutic Potential of Surana (Amorphophallus campanulatus): A Systematic Review Integrating Classical Ayurvedic and Contemporary Scientific Evidences

    Introduction: Surana (Amorphophallus campanulatus) known as Jimikand or Elephant Foot Yam, a tuberous plant, has been traditionally utilized in Ayurvedic medicine for its digestive, anti-inflammatory, and anti-hemorrhoidal properties. Objectives: To systematically review the therapeutic potential of Surana through a combined lens of Ayurvedic texts and modern pharmacological evidence, with a focus on its efficacy in gastrointestinal, hepatic, and inflammatory disorders. Methods: A systematic review of classical Ayurvedic texts, contemporary research articles, & e Samhitas was done. Databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and traditional Ayurvedic compendiums like Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, Astanga Hridya, Bhaisajya Ratnavali etc were explored for relevant information. Studies published between 2000 and 2024 were considered. Inclusion criteria were Ayurvedic texts referencing Surana\u27s therapeutic applications and modern research evaluating its pharmacological actions. Duplicates and studies lacking relevance to key therapeutic domains were excluded. The quality of modern studies was assessed using a simplified GRADE-based approach. Results: Surana is described in Ayurveda for its digestive, anti-inflammatory, and rejuvenative properties. It is indicated in the treatment of piles, abdominal disorders, and respiratory conditions. Modern pharmacological studies corroborate these traditional uses, highlighting its anti-hemorrhoidal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities. Clinical trials have shown promising results in managing hemorrhoids and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Discussions: The therapeutic potential of Surana as documented in Ayurveda is matched with modern scientific findings. The integration of traditional knowledge with contemporary research will enhance the understanding of its medicinal benefits. Comparative analysis was performed to highlight the alignment and discrepancies between traditional Ayurvedic knowledge and modern scientific findings. Conclusions: Surana (Amorphophallus campanulatus) holds significant promise in Ayurvedic medicine. Bridging traditional and modern knowledge can lead to its effective and safe application for its uses

    Numerical Solutions of Boundary Value Problems for Incompressible Internal Polar Viscous Fluids

    The work presented here considers conservation and balance laws and constitutive theories for internal polar non-classical isotropic, homogeneous incompressible thermofluids presented by Surana et.al to present numerical studies and comparison with the results obtained using classical thermodynamic frame and standard constitutive theories. The internal polar continuum theories are based on the fact that if the velocity gradient tensor is a fundamental measure of deformation physics in fluids then the thermodynamic framework for such fluids must incorporate the velocity gradient tensor in its entirety. Polar decomposition of the velocity gradient tensor into stretch rates and the rotation rates shows that only the stretch rates are incorporated in the currently used thermodynamic framework and the rotation rates are completely neglected. If the velocity gradient tensor varies from a material point to the neighboring material points, then so do the rates of rotations which, when resisted by the fluid result in conjugate moment tensor. Rates of rotations and conjugate moment tensor can result in additional resistance to fluid motion and additional dissipation i.e. entropy production. Due to the fact that the internal polar non-classical continuum theory incorporates internal rotations and conjugate moment tensor, the theory is called internal polar non-classical continuum theory. The thermodynamic framework for internal polar thermofluids has been presented by Surana et.al. The constitutive theory for internal polar incompressible thermofluids has also been presented by Surana et.al. These are utilized in this work to present numerical studies for model problems. Boundary value problems consisting of fully developed flow between parallel plates, square and rectangular lid driven cavities and asymmetric sudden expansion with three different expansion ratios are used as model problems. Numerical solutions are computed using least squares finite element processes based on residual functional in which p-version hierarchical local approximations are considered in scalar product spaces that permit higher order global differentiability local approximations. Nonlinear algebraic equations resulting from the finite element formulation are solved using Newton’s linear method with line search. Numerical solutions obtained from internal polar mathematical models are compared with those obtained using classical continuum theory

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
