    The present paper is aimed at illustrating the alternative model of personality disorders (PD), included in the DSM-5 system, with a series of possible implications for the expert report in the canon law field. In order to do this, the DSMIV TR diagnostic system with its limits as well as the new criterions of DSM-5 alternative model of PD were systematically presented and articulated. In particular, a series of new proposals, included in the alternative model, were illustrated and critically evaluated, clarifying their role for the improvement of DSM-IV TR unresolved questions, such as the excessive comorbidity of PD categories, the high heterogeneity of individuals with the same PD diagnosis, the obsolete approach to diagnostic thresholds, the temporal instability of diagnoses, the narrow range of personality psychopathology considered and the lack of a theoretical model, empirically founded, that is able to support the criterions. Improvements that DSM-5 alternative model may involve for the expert report in the canon law field, especially regarding the link between diagnostic label and legal incapacity, are discussed

    Heavy metal in sediments and bioaccumulation in the bivalve Corbula gibba in a drilling discharge area

    The longterm bioavailability of heavy metals in sediments of a Northern Adriatic Sea shelf area affected by drilling mud and Cutting discharges was discussed. Levels of Mn, Cu, Cr, Zn and Pb in different geochemical phases of the sediment and in soft tissues of the bivalve Corbula gibba were recorded and the relationships between biological and geochemical metal investigated. Total metal content, acetic acid extractable-, exchangeable-, carbonate-, easily reducible-, moderately reducible-, oxidable- and residual-fractions were determined oil sediment samples. Corbula gibba was collected from wet sediments at the same times and sites, and the soft-tissue metal contents were determined. Correlations show that the fractions with greatest bioavailability are the exchangeable and carbonate for Cr and the exchangeable, carbonate, easily and moderately reducible fractions for Zn. Data also show a possible bioavailability of Pb only from the residual fraction, consisting of very resistant matter of more recent anthropogenic origin. Near the platform, total Mn content in sediments and in C. gibba tissues show a strong correlation suggesting that this organism is sensitive to variations of the Mn-oxi-hydroxides superficial film. No relationships were found between biological and sediment-bound Cu, however the discharged muds did not cause Cu enrichment. The metal fraction determined by weak acetic acid extraction at no point seems related to metal levels in Corbula gibba

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Synthesis and reactivity of a fluorinated N-alkylmaleimide towards free-radical grafting and polymerization reactions

    A new fluorinated N-alkylmaleimide, N-(2-pentadecafluoro-n-octanoyloxy)-ethyl)maleimide (FOMI), was synthesized from perfluoro-octyl carboxylic acid (FOCA) by reaction of the furan adduct of maleic anhydride (MAH) with ethanolamine and esterification of the resulting alcohol-imide. The reactivity of FOMI in free-radical reactions such as copolymerization with butyl vinyl ether (BVE) and grafting onto olefin copolymers (OCP) was investigated. Copolymerization with 2/1 molar excess BVE yields a copolymer with 63 mol% FOMI in moderate conversion, indicating that homopropagation of the maleimide prevails over comonomer alternation. The thermal stability of FOMI is quite poor, with onset of the pyrolytic loss of the N-perfluoroalkylcarboxyethyl moiety just above 100degreesC, similarly to that of FOCA. This restricts the possibilities for direct melt functionalization of OCP with FOMI To bypass this limitation three distinct approaches were preliminarly investigated. These were respectively based on either direct grafting of FOMI at low temperature, or reaction of a MAH-grafted polyolefin with a low molecular weight amine or amino-terminated oligomer bearing the perfluoroheptyl group. A functionalization degree FD = 2% was achieved by solution grafting of a linear very low density polyethylene (VLDPE) with FOMI and Perkadox 16 as the free-radical initiator. The relatively high grafting efficiency was attributed to the growth of some oligomeric FOMI grafts onto the OCP. The alternative routes of post-modification of VLDPE-g-MAH by imidization with an amidoamine obtained by amidation of FOCA with a diamine or an amino-terminated FOMI/BVE oligomer, respectively, were also preliminarly investigate

    Identification of a bipotential precursor cell in hepatic cell lines derived from transgenic mice expressing cyto-Met in the liver.

    Met murine hepatocyte (MMH) lines were established from livers of transgenic mice expressing constitutively active human Met. These lines harbor two cell types: epithelial cells resembling the parental populations and flattened cells with multiple projections and a dispersed growth habit that are designated palmate. Epithelial cells express the liver-enriched transcription factors HNF4 and HNF1alpha, and proteins associated with epithelial cell differentiation. Treatments that modulate their differentiation state, including acidic FGF, induce hepatic functions. Palmate cells show none of these properties. However, they can differentiate along the hepatic cell lineage, giving rise to: (a) epithelial cells that express hepatic transcription factors and are competent to express hepatic functions; (b) bile duct-like structures in three-dimensional Matrigel cultures. Derivation of epithelial from palmate cells is confirmed by characterization of the progeny of individually fished cells. Furthermore, karyotype analysis confirms the direction of the phenotypic transition: palmate cells are diploid and the epithelial cells are hypotetraploid. The clonal isolation of the palmate cell, an immortalized nontransformed bipotential cell that does not yet express the liver-enriched transcription factors and is a precursor of the epithelial-hepatocyte in MMH lines, provides a new tool for the study of mechanisms controlling liver development

    A combinated approach to investigate the biochemistry and hydrography of a shallow bay in the South Adriatic Sea: The Gulf of Manfredonia (Italy)

    The main goal of this study is to understand the hydrological and biochemical set up and processes of a marine coastal area located in the western side of the south Adriatic sea (the gulf of Manfredonia) by the use of both satellite images and in situ investigations A water sampling in the gulf of Manfredonia was performed at 18 fixed stations in June 2003; physico-chemical and biological parameters (temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and fluorescence) were measured along the water column and water samples were collected to analyse dissolved nutrients (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate and silicate), total nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus), chlorophyll a and total suspended solids. Surface spatial distributions of field collected data were examined to characterize biochemical and hydrographic conditions of the Gulf of Manfredonia and these results were related with the remote sensing analysis data. Remote sensed data (obtained by Landsat 7 TM and Modis Terra) were processed to obtain maps of chlorophyll a, temperature and optical characteristics of the gulf; these maps were compared to in situ data. From physico-chemical measurements no stratification was observed in the water column except for the south-eastern area. High concentrations of silicate and ammonia were observed in the northern zone of the gulf, while nitrate, phosphate, chlorophyll a and total suspended solids distributions showed higher values in the central coastal zone. These results were confirmed by remote sensing analysis; Modis elaboration showed a distribution with higher concentrations of chlorophyll a near the coast and Landsat images highlighted the extension of the surrounding agricultural areas crossed by the two main rivers which discharge into the gulf. The integration between field data with the remote sensing analysis showed to be a valid support in coastal zone management
