No full textA new year's greeting card from Mamoru and Tsuru Yamauchi in Gardena, California to the Okine family.The Okine Collection contains materials collected by Seiichi and Tomeyo Okine who were Issei flower growers in Whittier, California. It includes correspondence, photographs, financial documents, and a photo album. A large portion of the collection consists of family correspondence with Seiichi and Tomeyo Okine, including letters from their Nisei children, Masao and Makoto Okine, both soldiers overseas during World War II, to their Issei parents incarcerated in the Rohwer incarceration camp in McGehee, Arkansas. The correspondence also includes letters from their relatives and friends who are former incarcerees in the camps during the war and have “resettled” in Chicago, Illinois as well as letters from the Okines’ family members in Hiroshima, Japan during the Allied occupation of Japan. In addition, the collection includes a family photo album compiled by Dorothy Ai Aoki, a Nisei daughter to the Okines
Calculation of the Tangential View of an H-Alpha Intensity Profile in the Large Helical Device
No full textA tangential image of an H-alpha intensity profile in a large helical device (LHD) plasma is investigated by a neutral particle transport simulation using a detailed 3-D grid model including the geometry of the helical plasma and the vacuum vessel. The calculated image of the H-alpha intensity profile calculated by the simulation quite agrees with the observed image, which strongly suggests that there is no significant abnormal neutral particle sources in typical plasma discharge operation in LHD.journal articl
Prediction of unusual plasma discharge by using Support Vector Machine
No full textThis paper proposes a method for predicting an unusual emission of visible light inside the plasma vessel by using a Support Vector Machine (SVM) because the unusual emission of visible light can be caused by unexpected heating on the vessel surface. This emission must be predicted to avoid unexpected situations in which it causes some damage to the vessel. The light reflected from the divertor tiles is used as the unusual emission light. This study aims to predict such unusual emission through pictures before the start of the unusual emission, regardless of the plasma physics. This study experimentally confirms that the unusual emission of visible light inside the plasma vessel can be predicted with an accuracy rate of 96.4%, and approximately 0.3 s before the start of an unusual emission.journal articl
Involvements of cyclic nucleotide systems in enlarged mice lungs produced by butylated hydroxytoluene.
No full textA single intraperitoneal injection of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), at a dose of 400 mg/kg of body weight, to mice caused enlargement of their lungs, which was found to be associated with some modifications in certain parameters of the cyclic nucleotide systems. These include: (a) increased levels of cyclic GMP, with cyclic AMP levels remaining unaffected, (b) increased levels of phosphodiesterases for cyclic GMP and cyclic AMP, with the lowest ratio of these activities seen at the beginning of the tissue mass increase, (c) increased levels of both cyclic GMP-dependent and cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinases, and (d) increased levels of stimulatory modulator of the cyclic GMP-dependent enzyme, with unaltered levels of inhibitory modulator of the cyclic AMP-dependent enzyme. Since increases in levels of cyclic GMP, the cyclic GMP target enzyme and its stimulatory modulator, as well as of the activity of DNA polymerase, occurred prior to or coincided with the pulmonary hypertrophy and hyperplasia, it is suggested that the cyclic GMP-mediated processes may be particularly crucial for cell proliferation after toxic injury of the lung by BHT

No full textThe magnetic components produced by nonaxisymmetric superconducting coils in the Large Helical Device produce a complicated magnetic structure in the plasma periphery, which strongly depend on the configuration of electric currents in the magnetic coils. A tangentially viewing charge-coupled device camera has observed line emission of doubly ionized carbon CIII. The dependence of the 3-D distribution of the CIII emission on magnetic configurations will be discussed.journal articl
Prostatic cancer with multiple pulmonary metastases treated successfully with hormonal therapy: a case report
No full text66歳男.胸部異常陰影を指摘され, 原因巣検索中に排尿困難が出現した.末梢白血球が8900/μl, 前立腺特異抗原(PSA)が134.9ng/mlと上昇していた.骨盤MRIでは前立腺中央から左葉にかけてT1強調像で等信号, T2強調像で低信号の腫瘤を認め, 膀胱頸部及び左精嚢への浸潤も疑われた.経直腸的前立腺生検では高分化癌であった.肺転移を伴う前立腺癌stage D2と診断し, リン酸ジエチルスチルベストロール(DES)を250mg/日点滴静注14日間投与し, その後酢酸ゴセレリン及びフルタミドによるtotal androgen blckade療法を開始した.DES終了時のPSAは8.4ng/mlと著明に低下し, 胸部X線でも肺転移巣の著明改善を認めた.診断から3年6ヵ月経過し, 再燃や転移はないA 66-year-old, man was referred to our hospital for further examination of multiple pulmonary nodules on chest X-ray performed on medical examination. He was referred to our clinic because his chief complaint was poor urinary stream. Prostatic cancer was suspected on digital rectal examination and magnetic resonance imaging. Serum prostatic specific antigen (PSA) level was 134.9 ng/ml. Histological examination of transrectal prostatic sextant biopsy revealed well differentiated adenocarcinoma of prostate. Abdominal computed tomography-scan, gastro-intestinal tract examination and bone scintigraphy demonstrated no other primary lesions or distant metastases. Under the diagnosis of prostatic cancer with multiple pulmonary metastasis, we performed total androgen blockade (TAB) consisting of luteinizing hormone releasing hormone agonist and flutamide following dietylstilbestrol (DES) intravenous injection therapy. After three months, pulmonary nodules disappeared on chest X-ray and PSA level decreased to below 0.1 ng/ml. Pulmonary nodules also disappeared on CT-scan after six months after TAB. He is alive and free from the recurrence for 42 months
