Escuchar a los objetos
This experimental section includes some parts of the performative event “The materiality of transformations: Listening to objects”, which closed the 14th SIEF conference held in Santiago de Compostela in 2019. Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett, Regina Bendix, Dorothy Noyes, Sharon Roseman and Francisco Cruces conversed on stage about the cultural meanings of a selection of personal objects. By unveiling the stories contained in mezuzahs, hair, a serving platter and a shawl, they put the methodological power of the object/story couplet to the test. The benefits of articulating narrativity with materiality; the silent power of things in everyday life; the embedded character of storytelling, and some of its affective, moral and celebratory virtues were highlighted. Sharon R. Euerle: Hall of Fame Inductee
Sharon R. Euerle: Hall of Fame Inductee
Sharon R. Euerle was one of the pioneering women who helped develop athletic programs at Winona State University. She competed on newly formed varsity volleyball, basketball and track and field programs when she attended Winona State. Those experiences were then of a great help to her future, as she would go on to start the girls’ volleyball, basketball and softball programs at St. James, MN High School in the early 1970’s.Euerle earned her Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and health education from Winona State in 1971 and after a couple of years of teaching in Winona, went on to a long and distinguished teaching and coaching career at St. James that ended in 1989 when she became athletic administrator at Mankato, MN West High School, a position she continues to hold.Euerle has been the recipient of many coaching, teaching and athletic director of the year awarded, but she lists her highest award as, “… sports programs for women finally becoming a reality.”https://openriver.winona.edu/halloffameinductees/1008/thumbnail.jp
Sharon Newberg and Corinne Rice Interview
This interview is an oral history with Sharon Newberg and Corinne Rice conducted by Alyssa Ralston. The interview took place at the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at Linfield University on November 7, 2023.
Sisters Newberg and Rice were known as the Voll sisters during their time at Linfield. In this interview the sisters talk about everything from their early childhood to their college memories. The sisters begin their interview by sharing some of their favorite memories and experiences of growing up in McMinnville in the \u2740s. They shared stories about childhood escapades, their dad, and McMinnville at the time.
Later in the interview, the sisters dive into their college experiences. They share memories about their time spent at Linfield and mention some of their favorite professors. They then talk about life after Linfield. Finally, the sisters leave us with some of their hopes and favorite memories of their dad
Justificational narratives : what is the role of fear in Israeli narratives of war?
Bibliography: leaves 90-92.The body of this thesis contains two main parts. The first (section 3) is a critical linguistic analysis of a selection of political speeches (which I have called 'policy narratives') delivered by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in the period February 2002 - October 2003. I have sought, with reference to Aristotle and other writers on persuasion, to delineate the rhetorical devices employed by Sharon and his speechwriters, and to demonstrate that one of their most important functions is to contribute to and enhance the overall climate of fear among the Israeli people, for the furtherance of Sharon's own political goals. I focus primarily on the speeches surrounding and leading up to the March 2002 announcement of 'Operation Defensive Shield', which was described by Palestinians and international aid workers as the harshest military assault on the WBGS since the June 1967 Arab-Israeli war. After examining the policy narratives I provide another representation of the 'reality on the ground' experienced by the Palestinian population at the receiving end of Sharon's 'operations'. The second (section 4) is a linguistic analysis of the 'narrative of personal experience' of a civilian reservist - Moshe Nissim - who was recruited in April 2002, at the height of 'Defensive Shield', to drive a D-9 bulldozer through the West Bank's Jenin refugee camp. Nissim, who seems motivated by his own personal fears and failures, apparently sees in Jenin the long-awaited opportunity to redeem himself. Although he does not appear to have been inspired by the arguments and themes of Sharon's narratives, the overall atmosphere of fear and hatred that is legitimised and given weight by Sharon in his speeches, sets the stage for Nissim to act on his darkest urges and later to be considered by himself and others as a hero for having done so. I contend that Israeli right wing hegemony both feeds and is fed by fear

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
