Copper-based electrodes for IT-SOFC
Copper and gadolinium doped ceria (GDC) anode supported fuel cells were co-sintered at relatively low temperature
(900 °C) and successfully tested in the intermediate temperature (IT) range. The GDC electrolyte
densification was promoted by a compressive strain induced by increasing the anodic thickness and was evaluated
by SEM investigation. Instead of more commonly used La0.8Sr0.2Fe0.6Co0.4O3-δ, strontium and copperdoped
lanthanum ferrite La0.8Sr0.2Fe0.8Cu0.2O3-δ (LSFCu) mixed with 30 wt% GDC (LSFCu-GDC) was employed
as cathodic material. Preliminary tests on Cu-GDC/GDC/LSFCu-GDC single cells showed promising results at
temperature as low as 650 °C using hydrogen as fue
Ceria-based nanoceramics by flash sintering
Ceria-based ceramics can be considered the most promising solid electrolyte materials for Intermediate Temperature
Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (IT-SOFCs). In this work, nanocrystalline ceria nanopowders doped with 10 mol%
gadolinium or 10 mol% samarium were synthesized by co-precipitation using ammonia solution as precipitating
agent. Upon a simple calcination step at 400 C, necessary to remove residual water and to complete the
crystallization of fluorite single phase, the synthesized nonopowders were used as starting materials in flash
sintering experiments for producing solid bodies at temperatures always lower than 700 C. By varying the electric
field applied upon sintering, different shrinkage behaviour and microstructures were obtained. The electrical
characterization revealed ionic conductivity similar to data reported in the literature, for similar materials obtained
by traditional sintering at higher temperature
Synthesis and characterization of strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite nanoparticles for bone regeneration
The production of stable suspensions of strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite (Sr-HA) nanopowders, as Sr ions vector for bone tissue regeneration, was carried out in the present work. Sr-HA nanopowders were synthesized via aqueous precipitation methods using Sr2+ amount from 0 to 100mol% and were characterized by several complementary techniques such as solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Infrared spectroscopy, N2 physisorption and Transmission Electron Microscopy. The substitution of Ca2+ with Sr2+ in HA is always isomorphic with gradual evolution between the two limit compositions (containing 100% Ca and 100% Sr), this pointing out the homogeneity of the synthesized nanopowders and the complete solubility of strontium in HA lattice. Strontium addition is responsible for an increasing c/a ratio in the triclinic unit cell. A significant variation of the nanopowders shape and dimension is also observed, a preferential growth along the c-axis direction being evident at higher strontium loads. Modifications in the local chemical environment of phosphate and hydroxyl groups in the apatite lattice are also observed. Stable suspensions were produced by dispersing the synthesized nanopowders in bovine serum albumin. Characterization by Dynamic Light Scattering and ζ-potential determination allowed to show that Ca2+→Sr2+ substitution influences the hydrodynamic diameter, which is always twice the particles size determined by TEM, the nanoparticles being always negatively charged as a result from the albumin rearrangement upon the interaction with nanoparticles surface. The biocompatibility of the suspensions was studied in terms of cell viability, apoptosis, proliferation and morphology, using osteosarcoma cell line SAOS-2. The data pointed out an increased cell proliferation for HA nanoparticles containing larger Sr2+ load, the cells morphology remaining essentially unaffected
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
