    No full text
Sergio Atzeni gives the prologue a liminal dimension as in the beginning he systematically works to build a new boundary. This happens in Il quinto passo è l’addio, where Sergio Gunale leaves Sardinia giving a last sight to Cagliari and he feels stranger and estranged enough to quote Lawrence in Sea and Sardinia. It also occurs in Passavamo sulla terra leggeri where the author reinvents the myth and organises a shipwreck as a narrative connection that fits the creation of the story of the S’ard populatio

Sandra Teroni, "Da una modernità all’altra. Tra Baudelaire e Sartre", Marsilio 2017. Dialogo tra Ignazio Cannas e l'autrice

    No full text
Ignazio Cannas, psychoanalyst, has a dialogue with Sandra Teroni on the occasion of the publication of her book Da una modernità all’altra. Tra Baudelaire e Sartre (From one Modernity to another. Between Baudelaire and Sartre - Marsilio 2017). The issues addressed are: an unresolved oscillation of the artist and the human being between the research of a style to give voice to emotions and the active presence in the history; the sense of those that the author calls “the figures of disillusionment” – the escape, the wandering, the foreigner, the shipwreck and the swamp – that can be considered metaphors through which, in the modernity, man tries to represent the problems of his being in relation with  the other and his living in the world.

Coexistence of dipolar frustration and criticality in ferromagnets

    No full text
In real magnets the tendency toward ferromagnetism - promoted by exchange coupling - is usually frustrated by dipolar interaction. As a result, the uniformly ordered phase is replaced by modulated (multidomain) phases, characterized by different order parameters rather than the global magnetization. The transitions occurring within those modulated phases and toward the disordered phase are generally not of second-order type. Nevertheless, strong experimental evidence indicates that a standard critical behavior is recovered when comparatively small fields are applied that stabilize the uniform phase. The resulting power laws are observed with respect to a putative critical point that falls in the portion of the phase diagram occupied by modulated phases, in line with an avoided-criticality scenario. Here we propose a generalization of the scaling hypothesis for ferromagnets, which explains this observation assuming that the dipolar interaction acts as a relevant field, in the sense of renormalization group. We corroborate this proposal with analytic and numerical calculations on the 2D Ising model frustrated by dipolar interaction (isotropic part). Our analysis is directly applicable to thin magnetic films with out-of-plane anisotropy.Fil: Cannas, Sergio Alejandro.

    No full text
La terra dei figli is a graphic-novel which consciously encounters post-apocalyptic fiction. Gipi offers his readers a narration of the world written beyond the end of the world and engages in a type of story that is among the most popular of recent times: post-apocalyptic fiction, which is perhaps the most suitable literary and cinematographic genre to entertain a "political" dialogue with his audience. The author works with the typical tools of comics and yet engages with archetypes that no longer belong only to the apocalyptic fiction, but to the fairy tale and the coming-of-age novel.

Three-state model with competing antiferromagnetic and pairing interactions

    No full text
Motivated by the rich phase diagram of the high-temperature superconductors, we introduce a pseudospin model with three state variables which can be interpreted as two states (spin ±1/2) particles and holes. The Hamiltonian has a term which favors antiferromagnetism and an additional competing interaction which favors bonding between pairs of antiparallel spins mediated by holes. For low concentration of holes the dominant interaction between particles has antiferromagnetic character, leading to an antiferromagnetic phase in the temperature-hole concentration phase diagram, qualitatively similar to the antiferromagnetic phase of doped Mott insulators. For growing concentration of holes antiferromagnetic order is weakened and a phase with a different kind of order mediated by holes appears. This last phase has the form of a dome in the T-hole concentration plane. The whole phase diagram resembles those of some families of high-Tc superconductors. We compute the phase diagram in the mean-field approximation and characterize the different phase transitions through Monte Carlo simulations.Fil: Cannas, Sergio Alejandro.

    No full text
A rereading of Salvatore Satta's masterpiece that highlights the narratologically discriminating strategies and turning points: the plane of intertextual relations, which humorously relates the great European History and the small stories of the Nuoro village in the late 19th and early 20th centuries; the path in which the author engages autobiographically: a catabasis with no possibility of anabasis; the construction of the characters, starting certainly with the contrast between Don Sebastiano and Donna Vincenza: but more generally, conforming in a sense to Dante's lesson, Satta preserves the originality of each individual figure. Of each character he exalts the individual affair, the dramatic and unrepeatable development. Salvatore Satta is their "ridiculous God" because, at the moment he arouses them and even eternalizes them by embodying them in Scripture, he ends their movement, the circle that imprisoned their existence. Scripture frees them from sin and the law; it is the judgment that is finally fulfilled.

[Positive inotropic effect of amiloride and inhibition of Na+/Ca2+ exchange: dependence on temperature].

    No full text
Na+/Ca2+ exchange plays a fundamental role in the regulation of intracellular Ca2+ levels and thus myocardial contractility. The influence of temperature variations on Na+/Ca2+ exchange activity in bovine heart sarcolemmal vesicles has been studied. Furthermore, the temperature dependence of positive inotropic response induced by amiloride, an inhibitor of Na+/Ca2+ exchange activity, has been investigated in isolated guinea-pig left atria driven at 1 Hz. Our results indicate that cooling from 37 degrees to 20 degrees C inhibits Na+/Ca2+ exchange activity in sarcolemmal vesicles, whereas does not change the extent of Na+/Ca2+ exchange inhibition by amiloride. In addition, the positive inotropic effect induced by amiloride in guinea-pig left atria decreases and eventually disappears when temperature is progressively reduced from 35 degrees to 23 degrees C. A possible relationship between the decrease in Na+/Ca2+ exchange activity induced by cooling and the temperature dependence of positive inotropic effect of amiloride is discussed

STRATEGIE NARRATIVE DANTESCHE IN SALVATORE SATTA

    No full text
The essay analyses Dantean references in Salvatore Satta's “Il giorno del giudizio”, investigating in particular the meanings of the “catabasis” in the memorial spaces and the ways of representing any single character's story. In a synchronic perspective – that of doomsday – it's up to the author to select what is meaningful and gives sense to an entire life. Something must be left out, but what is distilled, the synthesis, can become writing only after life – which is nothing but an ephemeral prefiguration – have found in death its reality and its fulfilment: Satta's writing becomes the where and when of the judgment. In the novel, however, there is no distinction between the damned and the blessed, there is no salvation nor redemption: in “Il giorno del giudizio” the protagonists will be “absolved or condemned” all together, and their “ridiculous god” with them. Salvatore Satta retains the Christian sense of the original sin, but denies the possibility of salvation. The souls in Nuoro recognize in the judgment the moment when their convulsive motion ceases. The “ridiculous god” is the author precisely for immortalizing them through the force of writing, embodying them in his writing and so putting an end to the circle in which their lives were imprisoned. Writing delivers them from sin and from the law: the judgment at last takes place
