Highly Sensitive Piezoelectric Ceramic Nanofibers for Flexible Transducers and Advanced Applications
Polymeric piezoelectric materials have attracted enormous success in the field of wearable electronics due to their high flexibility and good mechanical stability. Nonetheless, these materials exhibit a low piezoelectric response if compared to ceramics. This study is focused on the development of a flexible and highly sensitive piezoelectric sensor made with ceramic lead zirconate titanate (PZT) nanofibers. Results show an exceptionally high sensitivity of 30 mV/N and a piezoelectric strain coefficient d33 of 39 pC/N for the fabricated PZT sensor
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Corona poling for polarization of nanofibrous mats: advantages and open issues
This paper deals with the polarization process of piezoelectric nanofibrous mats of PVdF-TrFE by using a corona discharge process. With respect to traditional contact poling this process reduces the electrical breakdown risk which could easily occur when a highly porous mat is placed between two solid electrodes. Different set-up configurations were investigated by varying the applied voltage and the distance between the needle and the sample. The polarized nanofibers show a piezoelectric strain coefficients (mathrmd_33) comparable with the values of a commercial stiff film
Middle-Late Pleistocene polycyclic evolution of a geologically stable coastal area (southern Apulia, Italy)
The Otranto-Leuca coastal tract is marked by the presence of numerous sea caves placed close to present sea level. They are located generally at the back of a shore platform covered by a sequence of breccia deposits, marine sediments and speleothems. At Grotta di Masseria dell'Orte, marine cemented sands rest on a narrow shore platform at about 6.2 m above mean sea level and are covered by speleothems older than 185 ka. At Grotta del Diavolo, which is mostly filled by breccia deposits, three beach levels have been detected at about 3.0, 3.5 and 5.9 m above msl. They are either covered by or overlie speleothems that yield an U/Th age of 340, 78 ka and between 170.3 and 146.5, respectively. Geomorphological evidence and radiometric ages indicate that the area after a period of uplift has been tectonically stable since the last part of the Middle Pleistocene so that marine landforms close to the present shoreline underwent a polycyclic evolution. The sedimentary fills of sea caves formed during Middle-Late Pleistocene glacial stages, when and or semiarid conditions promoted the removal of regolith and the development of thick breccia deposits. During Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 9.3, 5.5 and 5.1, cave sediments were partially eroded whereas beach layers and related speleothems developed. These are, in fact, the only marine isotope stages marked by a sea level position which in this Mediterranean region was either close to, or slightly higher than, the present one. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Comparison between AC and DC polarization methods of piezoelectric nanofibrous layers
In this paper a comparison between two different polarization mechanisms of piezoelectric nanofibers of poly(vinylidenefluoride-trifluoroethylene) (PVdF-TrFE) are presented. The direct current (DC) traditional polarization method is compared with the alternate current polarization (ACP) one. The results showed a remarkable enhancement of the piezoelectric strain coefficient d33 of the nanofibrous mats when polarized with ACP if compared with DC polarization
