    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand”The 3rd Meeting of the Regional Scientific and Technical Committee was conducted by the Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish) on 5 to 7 February 2020 at Hai Phong City. The meeting attended by 19 participants, including representatives from 6 member countries, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Viet Nam, and Thailand, a regional expert from Chulalongkorn University and SEAFDEC Training Department, the Project Director and PCU staffs. The main objectives of the meeting are to discuss the 3rd Budget Revision as of 30 September 2021 and finalize the costed work plans for 2022. In addition, the project steering committee will finalize the audit firms for the financial statement audit for 2021 and 2022.     This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand”The Ad-hoc Meeting of the Project Steering Committee was conducted by the Project Coordinating Unit (PCU) on 16 June 2020. The meeting was attended by 19 participants, including the Project National Focal Point, the National Scientific and Technical Focal Point from 6 participating member countries, namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand, the project task manager from UNEP, representatives from SEAFDEC Training Department, and the Project Coordination Unit staffs. The meeting aimed to consult with the Project Steering Committee on the project extension with no extra cost from the donor and considering the proposed 10% reduction from the unspent budget to support the Regional programs and other matters.UNEP/GE

    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand”The Fifth Meeting of the Project Steering Committee, held on 3 September 2021, aims to continue updating the progress of works and review the issues raised for consideration and approval by the PSC. Many issues addressed to the Committee are for consideration and decision, such as conducting the Mid-term review and 3rd budget revision within the 4th quarter of 2021. The PCU also updated the Regional Action Plan for Indo-Pacific Mackerel status, signing an agreement between SEAFDEC and six participating countries to the PSC5 meeting.UNEP/GE

    Fishing gear for prawn and shrimp used in the Philippines today

    The report describes the different gears used for collecting penaeids which have been traditionally used in the Philippines. Twenty gears are presently found throughout the Philippines: nine for collecting sugpo fry and 13 for capturing adult prawns. Thirty-six figures are included in this report. The illustrations were done by Mr. Panfilo Legazpi, Jr., a scientific illustrator at SIA, based on colored photographs and actual observations. Fukumoto, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) 1989, pp 63-75.This paper describes various types of shrimping and prawning gear and devices, most of which have been traditionally used in the Philippines, with some ecological notes. This study provides basic information on prawn culture and fry collection, which will be useful for private fishpond operators and workers

    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand”The Regional Consultative Meeting on Regional Action Plan for Management of Transboundary Species, Rastrelliger brachysoma in the Gulf of Thailand Sub-region was conducted by the SEAFDEC-Sweden and SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on Establishment and Operation of Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand (Fishery Refugia) on 12 to 13 September 2019 at Chonburi Province. The meeting attended by 39 participants, including representatives from 6 member countries, officers from the SEAFDEC Secretariat and Training Department (TD), members of Regional Fisheries Policy Network (RFPN), experts from Sweden, and Burapha University, the Project Director and PCU staffs.
