Epitome and translation with commentary of Kad?n Sorunu (The status of women) by Necla Arat
Master of EducationThe status, achievements and problems of women have been examined comprehensively in recent years by numerous research projects, conferences and seminars globally. As it was indicated in the introduction of the book entitled "Kadin Sorunu" (The Status of Women) which is the subject of this thesis, the author Dr. Necla Arat who was then a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, Department of Philosophy of Istanbul University has done minor research and expanded it as a printed text with the abovementioned title. Though the book was written in 1975, due to various reasons and difficulties, it was published in 1980, revised and, enlarged edition was printed in 1986 (Say Yayinlari, Istanbul). The first edition had aroused a great deal of interest, it was criticised in positive and negative ways, such as a "complete political booklet", "a study of democratic leftists and progressives that reflect the contradictions of the Republican era woman". The author expresses her satisfaction with the outcome of her work, her book has not faded away in silence. She insists in her book that it is the responsibility of women themselves to
defend vigorously their rights.
Dr. N. Arat has published a number of books and
translated some texts. Presently, she is the head of the
Department for Women's issues of Istanbul University.

The intention of this article is to reflect on the sense of alienation of Muslim women in Western societies, especially in Germany. The analysis is based on the book The foreign bride from the German-speaking author of Turkish origin Necla Kelek, who reported experiences of women in a position which she described as a double alienation. These women usually know only their native language, and their personal and social situation makes contacts with the new local background difficult, if not impossible. To this situation they often adjust by confining themselves to the world of faith and religion. The intention of this article is to reflect on the sense of alienation of Muslim women in Western societies, especially in Germany. Self-history project in visual arts education
WOS: 000415699900006The present study aimed to determine how students realized the process of creating a 'self-history project' in the frame of the artworks created by the participant students, who, throughout the project, made use of their own life experiences, researched cultural values, enquired into historical events and utilized interdisciplinary relations. Artography, an art-based research method, was used for the purposes of the study during the years 2012-13. The research data are comprised of the artistic works of four students at the painting studio, semi-structured interviews that the author conducted as a researcher/teacher and the author's observations. The study's findings indicate that the students were positively impressed by the student-centred self-history approach
The effect of sodium nitroprusside on the vegetative development of Aronia melanocarpa [Michx.] Elliot under in vitro conditions
Aronia is a berry fruit that has a significant amount of antioxidants. Both sexual and vegetative methods of propagation are available for aronia. Genetic diversity is present in the process of seed propagation. Therefore, clonal propagation techniques such as cuttings, basal shoots, and tissue culture are preferred. Plant tissue culture is a process that offers a high multiplication rate and the ability to produce clean plant material. This study aimed to stimulate the growth of plantlets by introducing several growth-promoting agents into the culture media. Specifically, the effects of a nitric oxide donor SNP (sodium nitroprusside) on the vegetative development of the plants were examined under in vitro conditions. Four distinct concentrations of SNP (0, 100, 200, and 300 µM) were administered to promote vegetative development. The survival rate (%), rooting rate (%), root number (per plantlet), root length (cm), leaf number (per plantlet), shoot length (cm), plant fresh weight (g), and plant dry weight (g) of the plantlets were estimated on the 60th day of growth in the nutrient medium under in vitro conditions. The survival rate was 100% for the applications of SNP at concentrations of 100 µM and 200 µM. The 0 µM treatment had the highest root number, the 100 µM treatment had the longest root, and the 200 µM treatment had the highest values for shoot length. The 0 µM treatment provided the highest values for plant fresh weight, while the 0 and 100 µM applications resulted in the highest plant dry weight values. The study suggested that an increased concentration of SNP causes a toxic effect

Green business : sustainability and risk management in Turkish banking sector
Global warming, climate change, reduction of natural resources, damage to biodiversity all increase poverty and unemployment, amongst other things. Environmental and social problems result from an unconscious lifestyle, excessive production and consumption activities. The starting point of sustainability originates from these environmental problems that have been increasing. Sustainable development means meeting the needs of today without endangering future generations and harming natural resources and attaches importance to environmental and social development as well as economic development. For businesses to survive, they need to consider all dimensions of sustainability. Banking is one sector that has come to the forefront in recent years regarding sustainable management. Although the banking sector does not directly affect the environment, it does have indirect effects. This study aims to examine the extent to which the six banks that signed the Responsible Banking Principles from Turkey pay attention to the dimensions of sustainability in their risk management activities announced on their websites. Although there are studies on sustainable banking or risk management in the literature, there is conceptual confusion when the analysis methods are examined. In this study, the author tries to clarify this issue. Results show that the six banks that signed the Responsible Banking Principles paid attention to the sustainability of the environmental and social aspects in their risk management activities.peer-reviewe
