The potential of waste from the mango sector in Burkina Faso is not objectively known when it constitutes an ambivalent issue from an economic and environmental point of view. The objective of this paper is to quantify the availability of waste from the value chain (production, marketing, processing and consumption) of mangoes in Burkina Faso. The methodology used consisted of calculating central tendency and dispersion parameters, in particular the mean, the sum of means, the mean of means and the standard deviation of the statistical data available at the national level and of each individual link. The statistical analysis of secondary and primary data covered the period from 2016 to 2023 and concerns those from areas with high generation of mango waste. The results indicate that the mango sector produces on average, each year, between 100,513.66 and 116,122.04 tons of waste in Burkina Faso, or between 46.2% and more than 53.3% of the production of fresh mango. About the totality of waste, the average percentages are high at the processing level; at 41%, the production generates 30.37%, local consumption produces 15% and the exports 13.54% of total waste. By link, at the processing level, the average percentage of the quantities of waste generated is 45.35% with a higher rate of 94.16% and a minimum of 12.5% compared to fresh mangoes received. This enormous available quantity of waste recommends quickly finding one or more appropriate methods for their management in order to prevent their probable harmful effects on the environment and living together
The objective of this article is to assess the effect of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) on agricultural productivity in the countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). A log-quadratic econometric model is specify to estimate the parameters using the generalized least squares method. Panel data from the Regional System of Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support of the Economic Community of West African States covering the period 1997-2014 are used. The results indicate that current spending had more impact on value added without the CAADP than with it. Also, investment spending by WAEMU countries has not yet reached the minimum threshold allowing growth in agricultural value added to be observed. Thus, the WAEMU must ensure the scrupulous application of the measures adopted in CAADP, accompanied by strict sanctions for the States disrespectful of their commitments. Public spending should more be directed towards investment rather than current expenditure, in order to boost agricultural productivity

AbstractThis article aims (1) to construct a composite indicator of food insecurity taking into account both the sustainability, availability and dietary diversity of households in Burkina Faso to classify them according to their food status. (2) Evaluate from the multivariate method, the magnitude of demand factors and those of the food supply on the household food status in Burkina. The results show that only 12.6% of households in the sample are considered not food insecure, 52.7% are moderately food insecure and about 34.6% are acute food insecure. The probit multinomial results estimated by the maximum likelihood method indicate that factors that influence both household supply and demand, especially human capital (education and health), the dependency ratio and occupation, are very important determinants of household wellbeing. Supply-side factors have a greater magnitude than demand factors in the probability of a household being food insecure in rural Burkina Faso.

The potential of waste generated by the mango sector in Burkina Faso has not yet been precisely determined and remains insufficiently documented, despite their economic and environmental importance. This article aims to evaluate the quantities of waste from the mango value chain generated each year, including production, marketing, processing, and consumption in Burkina Faso. To achieve this, primary and secondary data were collected from 2016 to 2023 in areas with high production of mango waste, then analyzed by central tendency and dispersion parameters calculations (mean, sum of means, standard deviation) by link in the sector and at the national level. The results indicate that the mango sector produces on average each year between 100,513.66 and 116,122.04 tons of waste in Burkina Faso, which represents between 46.2 and 53.4 percent of the national production of fresh mango. Processing represents the largest share of waste with 41%, followed by production (30.37 percent), local consumption (15 percent), and exports (13.59 percent). At the processing level, waste represents on average 55.35 percent of processed cashed wild mangoes, which can reach 94.16 percent or fall to 12.5 percent. In the production sector, 15 percent of mangoes are downgraded, and the commercial sector records a rate of 30 percent. This enormous available quantity of waste recommends quickly finding one or more appropriate methods for their management in order to prevent the probable harmful effects on the environment and living together
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
