Alessitimia, tossicodipendenza e percezione del funzionamento familiare. Un’indagine esplorativa

The present study aimed to analyze the differences between drug addicts and non-addicts, in regard to family functioning and alexithymia, and also to investigate inter-individual differences of drug addicts relating to the dimensions of family func- tioning. The research involved 15 participants being treated for addictions to alcohol and/or other drugs in a therapeutic community and 15 subjects who were not ad- dicted to substances. Significant differences emerged from the comparison between the two groups: the drug addict group has worse family functioning and higher levels of alexithymia. The analysis of inter-individual differences within the clinical group highlighted varied and non-homogeneous family profiles, but largely united by a marked disengagement

Il disturbo da gioco d’azzardo: la dipendenza patologica come patologia della relazione

Gambling disorder is placed in DSM-5 among addictive disorders in the subsection of “non-substance-related disorders”, defining it as «persistent and recurrent problematic gambling behavior leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, in a 12-month period» (APA, 2013). The aim of this paper, through a review of the literature and a description of a clinical case, is to highlight the relational aspect of the GAP disorder by describing different forms of “relationship pathology” among its main effects. National and international literature highlights how the gambling represents a traumatic family experience, that involves all the systems of the player life with both human and social costs; in particular, gambling becames part of the dynam- ics between the couple and of the parent-child bond, assuming particular config- urations and meanings for both symbolic and relational point of view. The presence of pathological mechanisms in the couple relationship hidden by an apparent complicity that actually underlies a co-dependent relation between the partners, constitutes a first aspect that reinforces the pathological gaming. The present paper focuses attention on couple therapy, in a systemic per- spective, to overcome the concept of the gambling as an “individual intrapsy- chic phenomenon” and to identify the factors that may co-occur the onset and maintenance of pathological behavior

This paper offers a review of the literature related to the short and long- term effects of marital divorce on adult and young adults children. International research on the consequences of divorce on the psychological well-being of children has often overlooked the impact that this event and the changes associated with it could have on adult children life and choices. The experience of being “caught” in the marital conflict seems to have long-term outcomes and to influence the relationship with the father and mother differ- ently. The article, through a clinical exemplification, also focuses on the conse- quences of divorce on the quality of the adult children couple relationships and describes some types of intervention

Self-differentiation and parenting stress in adolescent mothers. An exploratory study

Introduction: Adolescent motherhood, a phenomenon that has a strong social impact, is explored, focusing particularly on the mother’s psychosocial development, parental role, skill, and parenting-related stress. Methods: This study aims to analyze the connection between maternal self- differentiation in first-time mothers (aged between 15 and 20 years old) and parenting stress levels, including some moderating variables, such as dyadic adjustment, maternal self-esteem, and perceived social support. Results: The analyses highlighted the following significant results: emotional cutoff and fusion with others are predictors of parenting stress (β = −0.38, p < 0.05, and β = 0.36, p = 0.05, respectively); emotional cutoff is also found to be a significant predictor of parent–child dysfunctional interaction (β = −0.42, p < 0.05), while fusion with others predicts a mother’s perception of her child as difficult (β = 0.39, p < 0.05); a predictive effect of the positive self-worth on a mother’s perception of having a difficult child is found (β = −0.37, p < 0.05); and a predictive effect of dyadic cohesion on a mother’s perception of having a difficult child (β = −0.40, p < 0.05) is found. Discussion: The results are discussed from a sociocultural perspective, and their implications on early motherhood, especially in Italy, are considered

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
