Behavioral modeling of GaN-based power amplifiers: impact of electrothermal feedback on the model accuracy and identification
In this article, we discuss the accuracy of behavioral models in simulating the intermodulation distortion (IMD) of microwave GaN-based high-power amplifiers in the presence of strong electrothermal (ET) feedback. Exploiting an accurate self-consistent ET model derived from measurements and thermal finite-element method simulations, we show that behavioral models are able to yield accurate results, provided that the model identification is carried out with signals with wide bandwidth and large dynamics

Increased level of homocysteine is related to dilation of cerebral vessels and endothelial injury that could trigger migraine attacks. Functional polymorphisms in the MTHFR gene affect homocysteine metabolism and, therefore, play an important role in the etiology of the disease. Objectives: We aimed to investigate the possible association between MTHFR gene rs4846049, C677T, and A1298C polymorphisms and the risk of migraine in Iranian population. Methods: In this genetic association study, 498 individuals were enrolled, including 223 migraine patients and 275 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed using tetra-primer ARMS-PCR for rs4846049 and PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism for C677T and A1298C polymorphisms. Results: The association between rs4846049 and C677T polymorphisms and migraine was observed. For the rs4846049 polymorphism, the association was detected under a dominant model (P=0.007; odds ratio [OR] =0.60; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.41–0.87), and for the C677T polymorphism, the TT genotype frequency was significantly different in the studied groups (P=0.009; OR =2.48; 95% CI, 1.25–4.92). No significant differences in the genotype or allele frequencies were found for the A1298C polymorphism between the migraineurs and controls. Conclusion: Present data provide evidence for the association of rs4846049 and C677T polymorphisms in the MTHFR gene and migraine. Further studies are required to validate the significance of the studied genetic variations in diverse ethnic populations. Looking for alternatives in the city of the slopes: Housing as a process to reduce socio-spatial segregation in Lima, Peru
Like many other Latin American cities, Lima experienced explosive population growth during the last century. Its population went from 600 thousand people in 1940 to nearly 9.5 million people nowadays. Former agriculture fields between the coast and the beginning of the Andes mountains were quickly filled with urban developments. Neither the public sector nor the private housing market provided decent living conditions in the city for all these newcomers. 34% of the city’s land was developed informally (Municipality of Lima, 2013a) and 70% of the houses were to some degree self-built. The process of urban development and, specifically, the control of the space through land ownership, generated a segregated city. The urban poor usually accessed low-cost land or housing in areas exposed to high levels of risk, with accessibility problems or lack of basic infrastructure. The current process of urban development, along with a quantitative understanding of housing in policy, continues reproducing socio-spatial segregation today. Buying a plot to land traffickers on the steep slopes of the periphery is the primary way for the low-income population to access a place to live in the city. This graduation project has two main goals. On the one hand, it tries to understand the relations between housing, urban development and socio-spatial segregation in Lima. On the other, it explores the potential of housing (understood as a process) to develop alternative models of urban development and reduce socio-spatial segregation, in search of a more just city.European Master in Urbanism (EMU)European Master in Urbanism (EMU

Modernismo negro: amefricanidade, oralitura e continnum em Lima Barreto
This text invests in the discussion about the existence, constitution and characterization of a
black modernism, in Brazilian literature, triggered from the work of Lima Barreto. At first,
after a brief discussion on the central discursive formations of São Paulo modernism, we
investigated the tensions, continuities and ruptures that mark the relations between the Rio de
Janeiro author and the group of the week of 22. In this framework, central categories in the
constitution of the field national literary texts such as: between-place, rupture and critical
assimilation are considered inappropriate, as an exclusive critical apparatus, to
instrumentalize the understanding of the specificities of Barretian work, which, in turn, brings
into play an epistemic and political repertoire linked to the black cultural tradition in Brazil,
until then neglected by the traditional field of Brazilian criticism. With this movement, Lima
Barreto's work requires, for his exegesis, a new set of theoretical and critical devices that
challenged and challenged the literary field. In the sequence, we seek to demonstrate how the
attributes of the Barretian work are marked by black-Brazilian culture. We used three notions
as the basis for this argument: language, territory and memory. From these discursive nuclei
we endeavor to present two central aspects of the Barretian work: a) how the work of the
black novelist dialogues intensively with the Afro-Brazilian cultural repertoire, resulting from
the processes of reterritorialization of African culture in Brazil; b) the fact that his work
constitutes a powerful critical contribution to the modern project, above all, the way it was
developed in Brazil, through the duplication of the colonial structure in the modernizing
movements of Brazilian society. In the third movement of this text, we seek to speculate on
the contributions of Lima Barreto's work to contemporary Brazilian society, starting from
three nuclei: the constitution of an ethics, its contribution to the work of the black intellectual,
and its importance in the constitution of a criticism literature that is less Eurocentric and more
open to dialogues with the multiple epistemic inscriptions of Brazilian culture. As a starting
point for this research, we established Lima Barreto's novels as a corpus, and undertook a
bibliographic survey of his works and Brazilian modernism. In establishing the theoretical
framework, we resort to dialogue with a field that has been solidifying in Brazilian criticism
and which is characterized by the production of a critical and analytical repertoire produced
from black culture in Brazil, therefore, consistent with the central objective of this study, or
that is, to analyze the work of Lima Barreto from a non-Eurocentric theoretical framework,
thinking and pushing the limits of the critical field of Brazilian letters. For this purpose, we
dialogue more intensely with the works of Muniz Sodré (2002), (2017), Leda Maria Martins
(1997), Lélia Gonzáles (1988) and Beatriz Nascimento (2007), José Henrique Freitas (2016),
A partir desses núcleos
No terceiro movimento desse texto, buscamos
No estabelecimento do referencial teórico

The subject of this dissertation is Lima's public art and its relationship with the processes of "city making", during the period 1919-1930. In this dissertation, the author identifies the government of Augusto B. Leguía (1919 - 1930), called also the Oncenio, as a key moment in the republican history of Peru, when there was a rational, harmonious and functional proposal of development of the city of Lima. Starting in 1866, when the city walls were demolished, the author analyzes successive modernizing urban proposals up to 1919. The political and economic ideas that support the scheme of the "Patria Nueva" are the basis of an urban design and production of artistic and sculptural landscape, concentrated mostly in the style called "Neo-Peruvian". The author includes a detailed record of spaces and monuments, parks, plazas, malls, streets, built in the Oncenio in public spaces, analyzing trends, styles, and contexts in the city and its surroundings. The relevance of the research goes beyond the covering historic research gaps, in its search of the achievements and contradictions of this project, in order to raise questions about the urban future of Lima
Genetic diversity of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene in Lutzomyia spp., with special reference to Lutzomyia peruensis, a main vector of Leishmania (Viannia) peruviana in the Peruvian Andes
The genetic divergence caused by genetic drift and/or selection is suggested to affect the vectorial capacity and insecticide susceptibility of sand flies, as well as other arthropods. In the present study, cytochrome b (cyt b) gene sequences were determined in 13 species circulating in Peru to establish a basis for analysis of the genetic structure, and the intraspecific genetic diversity was assessed in the Lutzomyia (Lu.) peruensis, a main vector species of Leishmania (Viannia) peruviana in Peruvian Andes. Analysis of intraspecific genetic diversity in the cyt b gene sequences from 36 Lu. peruensis identified 3 highly polymorphic sites in the middle region of the gene. Haplotype and gene network analyses were performed on the cyt b gene sequences of 130 Lu. peruensis in 9 Andean areas from 3 Departments (Ancash, Lima and La Libertad). The results showed that the populations of La Libertad were highly polymorphic and that their haplotypes were distinct from those of Ancash and Lima, where dominant haplotypes were observed, suggesting that a population bottleneck may have occurred in Ancash and Lima, but not in La Libertad. The present study indicated that the middle region of the cyt b gene is useful for the analysis of genetic structure in sand fly populations
Axisymmetric polydimethysiloxane microchannels for in vitro hemodynamic studies
The current microdevices used for biomedical research are often manufactured using microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology. Although it is possible to fabricate precise and reproducible rectangular microchannels using soft lithography techniques, this kind of geometry may not reflect the actual physiology of the microcirculation. Here, we present a simple method to fabricate circular polydimethysiloxane (PDMS) microchannels aiming to mimic an in vivo microvascular environment and suitable for state-of-the-art microscale flow visualization techniques, such as confocal µPIV/PTV. By using a confocal µPTV system individual red blood cells (RBCs) were successfully tracked trough a 75 µm circular PDMS microchannel. The results show that RBC lateral dispersion increases with the volume fraction of RBCs in the solution, i.e. with the hematocrit
