Un caso di studio. "Io ero il Milanese"

    No full text

Dewey on the Reflex Arc and the Dawn of the Dynamical Approach to the Study of Cognition

    No full text
I assess the relevance of John Dewey's well-known article, The reflex arc concept in psychology, for a historical revision of the emergence of the recent embodied approach in the cognitive sciences. In particular, I try to identify its specific contribution in the shift from Dewey?s conceptual analysis to the way in which during the last years certain research programs have developed their methodological profile and put it down to work in the experimental and modeling practices. My hypothesis is that, under a certain interpretation, Dewey's article plays the role of the main intellectual precursor in the development of embodied cognitive science and, specifically, the related dynamical approach.Fil: Venturelli, Alfonso Nicolás. Dott. ssa Eliana Venturelli Dottorato in Medicina Molecolare, Ciclo XIX TITOLO: Effetto di polimorfismi genetici coinvolti nel processo infiammatorio e nel danno ossidativo nella malattia di Alzheimer Alzheimer s Disease (AD) is a multifactorial disease caused by both genetic and environmental factors. The aim of this project was to carry out association studies, to detect significant differences in polymorphism frequency in molecules involved in AD pathogenesis, including Nitric Oxide Synthase (NOS) isoforms (NOS3 and NOS1) and IP-10 (CXCL10) gene between patients and age matched healthy controls. ApoE, NOS3 Glu298Asp and T-786C, NOS1 C276T, VNTR and G-84A, were determined by PCR-RFLP and IP-10 exons were sequenced. ApoE e4 allele, NOS3 wild type (Glu/Glu) genotype, NOS1 T/T genotype and VNTR short alleles have been demonstrated to act as a risk factor for AD. On the contrary NOS3 T-786C, NOS1 G-84A and IP-10 did not increase the risk to develop the pathology. In conclusion, our genetic analysis contributed to identify some susceptibility factors for AD. Future perspectives are represented by the possibility to carry out pharmacogenetic studies for identifying responders and non responders

SDG REPORTING IN SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOUNTING RESEARCH

    No full text
In the last years, many companies have started to explicitly formalize their commitment to the 2030 Agenda in their sustainability reports. This paradigm shift has been favored by the increasing attention paid by stakeholders and investors to the initiatives launched by worldwide companies to actively contribute to the achievement of the 17 ambitious goals identified by the United Nations in 2015. In this regard, the proliferation of new accountability tools has favored also the development of new research by social and environmental accounting scholars. However, despite the relevance of the topic, the current scientific debate is notably fragmented, a situation attributable to its inherently interdisciplinary nature. Therefore, the present chapter aims to shed light on SDG reporting in social and environmental accounting research. For our purposes, a bibliometric analysis has been performed on 129 articles published during the time horizon of 2015-2023

Inhibition of T-cell proliferation by a MYB antisense oligomer is accompanied by selective down-regulation of DNA polymerase alpha expression.

We recently found that inhibition of MYB protein synthesis in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) exposed to human c-myb (designated MYB) antisense oligodeoxynucleotides prevents entry into S phase and cell proliferation. To determine the mechanism(s) by which down-regulation of human c-myb protein (MYB) synthesis interferes with DNA synthesis, we analyzed mRNA levels of DNA polymerase alpha and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), transcripts of two genes required for DNA synthesis, in normal and leukemic T lymphocytes exposed to MYB antisense oligodeoxynucleotides. Expression of DNA polymerase alpha was inhibited both in normal T lymphocytes progressing from G0 to S phase and in exponentially growing CCRF-CEM leukemic cells, whereas expression of PCNA was inhibited only in mitogen-stimulated PBMC and remained essentially unaffected in the leukemia T-cell line. The functional link between expression of MYB and DNA polymerase alpha mRNAs was further demonstrated by analyzing DNA polymerase alpha mRNA levels in a temperature-sensitive (ts) fibroblast cell line (TK-ts13; TK is thymidine kinase) constitutively expressing human MYB mRNA driven by the simian virus 40 (SV40) promoter. In the MYB-expressing TK-ts13 cells, DNA polymerase alpha mRNA levels were unaffected following shift to the nonpermissive temperature of 39.6 degrees C, whereas in the parental line, DNA polymerase alpha mRNA levels were readily down-regulated. These findings indicate that the expression of MYB is related to that of DNA polymerase alpha in cells expressing MYB at high levels and suggest that there is a functional link between c-myb and DNA polymerase alpha mRNA expression during cell cycle progression of normal T lymphocytes

Kriging-assisted design optimization of S-shape supersonic compressor cascades

    No full text
In this paper, multi-objective design optimization of a supersonic compressor cascade was dealt with. The geometry considered was an S-shaped 2D cascade developed and tested at DLR (DLR-PAV-1.5), operating under unique incidence and inlet Mach number equal to 1.5 so as to develop approximately a static pressure ratio of 2. In such conditions, the cascade shows a strong lambda shock-boundary layer interaction. Methodology included the use of an in-house Kriging-assisted evolutionary algorithm driving an iterative loop which includes a parametric code for geometry representation and the ANSYS Fluent©solver for flow calculation. Cascade optimization was carried out by varying the shapes of both the suction and the pressure sides while maintaining the unique incidence condition using an iterative CFD-based procedure. The objectives were to minimize the cascade total pressure losses and to maximize the static pressure ratio using a Pareto ranking criterion. Results showed that loss coefficient could be reduced by 25% and the static pressure ratio could be improved by 6.5% as a results of a decrease in the pre-shock Mach number by virtue of an extended pre-compression mechanism that involves the entire suction surface upstream of the passage shock

Private Banking and Asset Management in Italy

    No full text
This chapter provides an analysis of the asset management industry in Italy from various perspectives. First, I analyse the size and trend of the market for asset management products and services, discussing the main underlying factors. This is followed by a closer investigation of the investment fund sector, one of the asset management industry segments that has experienced the largest drop in the amounts of funds managed during recent years; my aim is to identify the causes of this reduction and possible solutions for overcoming it. The strategic business area of private banking, serving HNWI (high net worth individuals) is also reviewed, to identify elements of similarity or contrast with the asset management industry overall
