    Reaction mechanisms in (24)Mg+(12)C and (32)S+(24)Mg

    The occurence of "exotic" shapes in light N=Z alpha-like nuclei is investigated for (24)Mg+(12)C and (32)S+(24)Mg. Various approaches of superdeformed and hyperdeformed band's associated with quasimolecular resonant structures with low spin are presented. For both reactions, exclusive data were collected with the Binary Reaction Spectrometer in coincidence with EUROBALL IV installed at the VIVITRON Tandem facility of Strasbourg. Specific structures with large deformation were selectively populated in binary reactions and their associated gamma-decays studied. The analysis of the binary and ternary reaction channels is discussed

    High-spin states and band terminations in v 49

    High-spin states in 49 V have been studied through the 28 Si(28 Si, α3p) reaction using the EUROBALL γ-ray detector array. The 49 V level scheme has been extended up to 13.1 MeV including 21 new states. Both negative and positive parity states have been interpreted in the framework of theShell Model.     Spectroscopy of particle-hole states of C-16

    The three-neutron transfer reaction (C-12,C-9) has been measured on C-13 and C-12 targets at 230.7 MeV incident energy. The level scheme of C-16 , which was known previously up to 6.11 MeV excitation energy, has been extended up to 17.4 MeV by 14 new states. The structure of these states in terms of particle-hole configurations and possible spin assignments are discussed. In C-15 the spins of the states at 6.84 MeV and 7.39 MeV could be uniquely assigned as 9/2(-) and 7/2(-), respectively

    The population of deformed bands in 48^{48}Cr by emission of 8^8Be from the 32^{32}S + 24^{24}Mg reaction

    Using particle gamma coincidences we have studied the population of final states after the emission of 2 alpha particles and of 8Be in nuclei formed in 32S 24Mg reactions at an energy of EL 32S 130 MeV. The data were obtained in a setup consisting of the GASP gamma ray detection array and the multidetector array ISIS. Particle identification is obtained from the Delta E and E signals of the ISIS silicon detector telescopes, the 8Be being identified by the instantaneous pile up of the Delta E and E pulses. Gamma ray decays of the 48Cr nucleus are identified with coincidences set on 2 alpha particles and on 8Be. Some transitions of the side band with Kpi 4 shows stronger population for 8Be emission relative to that of 2 alpha particles by a factor 1.5 1.8 . This observation is interpreted as due to an enhanced emission of 8Be into a more deformed nucleus. Calculations based on the extended Hauser Feshbach compound decay formalism confirm this observation quantitativel

    Spectroscopy of 40^{40}Ca and negative-parity bands

    We have studied the reactions 28Si+24Mg52Fe40Ca+3 as well as the binary channel 52Fe40Ca+12C , in order to search for deformed states, which form rotational bands in 40Ca. We observe positive- and negative-parity bands. The negative-parity band is proposed to be a partner of an inversion doublet with the positive-parity states being based on 4p-4h configurations. The properties of the positive-parity states are discussed on the basis of the shell model and the parity doublet on the basis of a cluster model with intrinsic reflection asymmetric shapes

    Octupole-deformed molecular bands in 21Ne

    Cluster states up to 12 MeV in the stable light nucleus 21Ne, based on the 16O + n + α molecular configurations, have been populated in the incomplete-fusion reaction 16 8O(73Li, np)2110Ne at 29.4 MeV. The observation of both intra- and inter-band transitions leads to a re-interpretation of some levels in the Kπ = 23 - and Kπ = 21 - bands. The implications of this re-ordering on the octupole doublet bands are examined. The data allow a more accurate determination of some previously uncertain level energies. The “missing” Iπ = 25 - level is also discussed

    Emission of unbound 8^8Be and 12C(02+)^{12} C^{\star}(0^+_2) clusters in compound nucleus reactions

    We have studied the emission of light unbound clusters, 8Be and 12C * (0+2), in the reactions 18O + 13C rarr{31} Si rarr{23} Ne + 8Be and 28Si + 24Mg rarr{52} Fe rarr{40} Ca + 12C * (0+2). The gamma-ray spectra obtained in coincidence with 8Be and 12C * (0+2) emission have been studied relative to the statistical emission of two or three agr-particles. The angular-momentum-to-energy balance of the cluster emission is compared with that of multiple-agr emission. The properties of the energy spectra of the binary process and the population of the residual nuclei by cluster emission are discussed. It is observed that cluster emission carries away less excitation energy on average than the sequential emission of the individual components
