A critical analysis of Christian responses to Islamic claims about the work of the Prophet Muhammad, ‘the Messenger of God’.
No full textThe aims of this study are to analyse critically the different Christian responses to the Islamic understanding of the work of Muhammad. Chapter one consists a short introduction leading to an appraisal of Muhammad which incorporates historical, hagiographal and Quranic source material, and in the light of relevant Christian and Muslim scholarship. The second chapter presents a summary critical analysis of Muhammad in Christian theological perspective, from 661 A.D. to modern times. Chapter three presents a critique of Christian responses to the Muslim allegations that the text of the Bible has been infected with corruption; and that Muhammad's advent and status are foretold in the unadulterated' scriptures, and in the Gospel of Barnabas. Chapter four examines the theological significance of the work of Muhammad for Christians. Thus, Jesus and Muhammad are critically assessed and contrasted in order to ascertain the importance, for Christians, of the Muslim claims in respect of Muhammad as ’the messenger of God’. Chapter five provides a critical evaluation of the various Christian responses to Muhammad. It is argued that many of the said responses have been entangled in myths and misperceptions which have severely distorted the true account of Muhammad's work. Consequently, many Christians have failed to appreciate the divine legitimacy of Muhammad's call to prophethood. Further, it is argued that Christians should accept that Muhammad is a genuine prophet, and the messenger of God. However, Muhammad's use of the power-structure in order to maintain Islam is in sharp contrast to Jesus’ decision to face the consequences of his ministry passively through faith in God. Accordingly, orthodox Christian belief in the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus provides another dimension to prophethood, where the messenger and the message become one, an identification which finds no parallel in Islam, and which, in the nature of the case, cannot find a parallel
Liquid racism and the Danish Prophet Muhammad cartoons

Copyright @ 2010 The Author.This article examines reactions to the October 2005 publication of the Prophet Muhammad cartoons in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten. It does so by using the concept of ‘liquid racism’. While the controversy arose because it is considered blasphemous by many Muslims to create images of the Prophet Muhammad, the article argues that the meaning of the cartoons is multidimensional, that their analysis is significantly more complex than most commentators acknowledge, and that this complexity can best be addressed via the concept of liquid racism. The article examines the liquidity of the cartoons in relation to four readings. These see the cartoons as: (1) a criticism of Islamic fundamentalism; (2) blasphemous images; (3) Islamophobic and racist; and (4) satire and a defence of freedom of speech. Finally, the relationship between postmodernity and the rise of fundamentalism is discussed because the cartoons, reactions to them, and Islamic fundamentalism, all contain an important postmodern dimension.ESR
Modeling of NH3–NO–SCR reaction over CuO/γ-Al2O3 catalyst in a bubbling fluidized bed reactor using artificial intelligence techniques
No full textComparative study of the artificial neural network and mechanistic model was carried out for NO removal in a bubbling fluidized bed reactor. The effects of temperature, superficial gas velocity and ammonia/nitric oxide ratio on the NO removal efficiency were determined and their optimum conditions were estimated by the experimental study, the artificial neural network and mechanistic models as well. The optimum values of ammonia/nitric oxide ratio, temperature and superficial gas velocity for the maximum NO removal efficiency were found to be 1.5, 300 degrees C and 0.098 m/s, respectively. A mechanistic model was implemented in our previous study [Muhammad F. Irfan, Sang Done Kim and Muhammad R. Usman, 2009] and it was found that this model fitted well only at specific condition i.e. maximum conversion temperature (300 degrees C). However, it failed to perfectly match with rest of the experimental data points at other temperatures and parametric conditions as well. To improve this, an artificial neural network modeling strategy was applied and its predictions were evaluated which were favorably matched with the experimental data rather than the mechanistic model. A New S-Box Design System for Data Encryption Using Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm
No full textSecuring digital image data is a key concern in today’s information-driven society. Effective encryption techniques are required to protect sensitive image data, with the Substitution-box (S-box) often playing a pivotal role in many symmetric encryption systems. This study introduces an innovative approach to creating S-boxes for encryption algorithms. The proposed S-boxes are tested for validity and non-linearity by incorporating them into an image encryption scheme. The nonlinearity measure of the proposed S-boxes is 112. These qualities significantly enhance its resistance to common cryptographic attacks, ensuring high image data security. Furthermore, to assess the robustness of the S-boxes, an encryption system has also been proposed and the proposed S-boxes have been integrated into the designed encryption system. To validate the eectiveness of the proposed encryption system, a comprehensive security analysis including brute force attack and histogram analysis has been performed. In addition, to determine the level of security during the transmission and storage of digital content, the encryption system’s Number of Pixel Change Rate (NPCR), and Unified Averaged Changed Intensity (UACI) are calculated. The results indicate a 99.71% NPCR and 33.51% UACI. These results demonstrate that the proposed S-boxes offer a significant level of security for digital content throughout its transmission and storage
