Chapter 4 The Challenges in Developing Realistic NEG Simulation Models for East Asia
This chapter attempts to identify some important issues in developing realistic simulation models based on new economic geography, and it suggests a direction for solving the difficulties. Specifically, adopting the IDE Geographical Simulation Model (IDE-GSM) as an example, we discuss some problems in developing a realistic simulation model for East Asia. The first and largest problem in this region is the lack of reliable economic datasets at the sub-national level, and this issue needs to be resolved in the long term. However, to deal with the existing situation in the short term, we utilize some techniques to produce more realistic and reliable simulation models. One key compromise is to use a 'topology' representation of geography, rather than a 'mesh' or 'grid' representation or simple 'straight lines' connecting each city which are used in many other models. In addition to this, a modal choice model that takes into consideration both money and time costs seems to work well.Southeast Asia, Economic geography, Econometric model, Geographical Simulation Model, East Asia, Spatial economics, Modal choice

Turbo coded signals over wireless local loop environment
In this paper, the performance of turbo coded signals are investigated over Wireless Local Loop (WLL) environment with no side information on the phase noise and no channel state information (CSI). We assume that the transmitter and the receiver are point-to-point microwave links, separated by WLL which is modelled as 1Dn/Partial Response Microwave Channel (PMRC) with realizable and practical medium parameters. Here, the combined effects of the nonideal coherent receiver on the phase of the received amplitude and of a noisy carrier reference are considered, each modelled by the Rayleigh and Tikhonov distributions respectively. As an example, the jitter performance of turbo coded signals are evaluated over 1D/PRMC with effective signal-to-noise ratio in the carrier tracking loop, fading parameter, iteration number and frame data block size. The numerical results clearly demonstrate the error performance degradation due to both amplitude fading and phase noise process. The Yeditepe University Open Access System is a compendium of indexed publications. Analysis of the roots of European theatre directory and methodology: In the case study of Konstantin Stanislavski and Bertolt Brecht
This study deals with European director?s theatre in 19th century in historical context, analyse original roots of theatre director traditionally and especially study on Konstantin Stanislavski and Bertolt Brecht?s perspectives on drama art and director?s methods. In survey, the concept of theatre directory and regisseur are getting in a historical context and also the functions of theatre directors in dramatic art can be analysed. As a case study Konstantin Stanislavski?s and Bertolt Brecht?s productions of ?Three Sisters? and ?Mother Courage and Her Children? have been taken into consideration in the light of original written documents which is called Regiebuch. In thesis, directory can be conceptualized from the perspectives of ten leading theatre director in 19th century in Europe. Also the principles of theatre directory have been dismissed. Thesis is constructed after reading academic report, exploring data survey and compilation of textual books. The basic aim of the thesis is discussion of theatre directory which is not popular argumantative topic in Turkey. The study has revealed that the modern theatre directory has been 150 years history. The modern theatre directory is not inevitable and constant, ıt stems from the sociological changes of the European society. Konstantin Stanislavski and Bertolt Brecht?s perspectives symbolize pattern for comtemporary directors and this study investigate their heritage
The thesis investigates torture?s effects on personality structures and psychological well-being. Also, it takes into account a second important effect, political activism. As a part of the larger study Rorschach Inkblot Test has been applied to the participants (tortured/activist=26, tortured/non-activists=25, non-tortured/activists=30, non-tortured/non-activists=28) and were coded using Exner?s Comprehensive System (1993). First, 2X2 ANOVAs were carried out to analyze torture?s effects on the six main axis of Rorschach. Results showed tortured and non-tortured individuals had significant differences in terms of the seven main personality structures of Exner?s system (control-stress tolerance, affect, information processing, mediation, ideation, interpersonal relationships, self-perception). Additionally, political involvement creates significant differences in ideation and self perception. Interaction of the two also creates differences on control and stress tolerance, ideation and interpersonal relationships. These results were further investigated by using logistic regression. This thesis study has the importance of showing torture?s psychological effects by taking into the consideration of personality factors through the use of a projective personality test. SAR changes in a human head model for plane wave exposure (500 - 2500 MHz) and a comparison with IEEE 2005 safety limits
In this paper, external electric field values that are derived from the largest peak average 10 g SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) results in a realistic human head model are compared with current IEEE and ICNIRP reference levels. The head is illuminated by a plane wave source at seven different frequencies ranging from 500 MHz to 2500 MHz, with five different incident directions and three polarizations. Results reveal that the presence of metallic wire spectacles reduces the external electric field levels in the region above 900 MHz. Comparison of derived electric field values shows that the current IEEE and ICNIRP safety limits provide a conservative estimate
The dual effects of health risks and crowd perception on marine traveller behaviour: The case of shared day cruise charter
This study investigates the dynamics of traveller behaviour toward shared day cruise charters regarding Covid-19 as a health-risk situation through the theory of planned behaviour. Following interviews with 22 customers, the findings were evaluated using directed content analysis. The results show that, besides Covid-19's moderating role, physical (e.g., high noise, absence of physical barriers) and social (e.g., a high number of out-group members, high customer heterogeneity) attributes of the service concept intensify the perceived crowdedness in the yacht. Despite being a one-day outdoor activity, the tour is perceived as risky due to the crowded service environment. Thus, crowds and health risks have a dual impact on travellers' attitudes toward tours. The perceived risk is not the only concern related to the traveller personally, it also includes risks related to the transmission of the virus to one’s family and friends. Travellers attributed crowding to the opportunistic behaviours of service providers, hence relying on their own precautions. Furthermore, there is an inverse relationship between crowding and the perceived hedonic value of the service. Companion unavailability is a significant barrier; however, there is a negotiation dilemma to persuade hesitant group members. The study contributes to the travel services offered in crowded environments that especially pose health risks and offer important implications for yacht tourism practitioners
