Modas estéticas y relaciones exteriores: La difusión de los mitos artúricos en la Corona de Castilla (s. XIII-comienzos s. XVI)

    No full text

    No full text
This work deals with the patronage of the queens-consort and princesses in the Western part of the Iberian Peninsula from a comparative point of view. Its main aim is to analyze the ways of acting common both to Castile and Portugal and, at the same time, to examine the differences between both kingdoms in the period that covers the late 14th century and the beginnings of the 16th century, corresponding to the rule of the Trastamara and the Avís dynasties. The analysis of their sponsorship shows a wide variety of themes inside the prevalence of religious subjects. The cultural initiatives of these noble women must be considered in a context where monarchy was highly exalted, a feature characteristic of the origins of the Modern State at the end of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period.

Metal and metalloid concentrations in wild mammals from SW Europe: European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) and badger (Meles meles)

In recent years, there have been increasing ecological and global concerns associated to Potentially Toxic Elements (PTEs). Thus, the relevance of wild mammals as biomonitors has been globally recognised. In the present study, Cd, Pb, Hg, Zn and As concentrations were quantified in European hedgehog and badger inhabiting SW Europe, and cumulative trends in relation to age and sex were evaluated. Liver and kidney samples were collected, mineralised and PTE content was determined by ICP-MS. Zn was the most abundant element quantified in both organs (239 and 89.8 mg kg-1 for hedgehogs and 179 and 164 mg kg-1 dw for badgers). In hedgehogs, very high Hg concentration were quantified (4.35 and 15.5 mg kg-1 dw in liver and kidney), and Cd was the most abundant for badgers (4.70 and 7.61 mg kg-1 dw in liver and kidney). Positive correlations were observed for the concentrations of PTE in the organs of both species. Age-dependence increased only Cd concentration, with levels in adult kidneys being significantly higher. In this study, European hedgehog and badger were used as biomonitors for the determination of PTEs to provide current reference values in relatively non-polluted areas of SW Europe, and to enhance the use of these species for future ecotoxicological studies

This work has been partially funded by the XIth plan, SEND Project (PIN:11-R&D-SIN-5.11-0400), DAE, Government of IndiaThe ground-state configuration of ³⁵Al has been studied via Coulomb dissociation (CD) using the LAND-FRS setup (GSI, Darmstadt) at a relativistic energy of ~ 403 MeV/nucleon. The measured inclusive differential CD cross section for ³⁵Al, integrated up to 5.0 MeV relative energy between the ³³Al core and the neutron using a Pb target, is 78(13) mb. The exclusive measured CD cross section that populates various excited states of ³³Al is 29(7) mb. The differential CD cross section of ³⁵Al -> ³⁴Al + n has been interpreted in the light of a direct breakup model, and it suggests that the possible ground-state spin and parity of ³⁵Al could be, tentatively, 1/2⁺ or 3/2⁺ or 5/2⁺. The valence neutrons, in the ground state of ³⁵Al, may occupy a combination of either l = 3,0 or l = 1,2 orbitals coupled with the ³⁴Al core in the ground and isomeric state(s), respectively. This hints of a particle-hole configuration of the neutron across the magic shell gaps at N = 20,28 which suggests narrowing the magic shell gap. If the 5/2⁺ is the ground-state spin-parity of ³⁵Al as suggested in the literature, then the major ground-state configuration of ³⁵Al is a combination of ³⁴Al (g. s.; 4⁻) circle times ν_(p_(3/2)) and ³⁴Al (isomer; 1⁺) circle times ν _(d_(3/2)) states. The result from this experiment has been compared with that from a previous knockout measurement and a calculation using the SDPF-M interaction.Depto. de Estructura de la Materia, Física Térmica y ElectrónicaFac. de Ciencias FísicasTRUEpu

    No full text
The author assesses the situation of subscriber television worldwide. The largest providers of satellite TV in the U.S. and Latin America are examined, as well as several key trends in Europe's subscriber TV. Specific focus is placed on the changes in digital satellite TV platforms in France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain

The effect of gender on several biochemical parameters in roe deer (capreolus capreolus)

    No full text
Living beings are constantly exposed to a wide variety of environmental contaminants and their biochemical response can be employed to assess the possible biological impact of such pollution. Sex can play a major role in the uptake, fate, and effects of contaminants in organisms. The present study evaluated endogenous levels of different biomarkers in liver, kidney and lung in both male and female roe deer in order to determine normal levels of these biomarkers and sex-related differences in this species. Post-mitochondrial cytochrome P450 subfamily 1A1, as well as phase II enzymes glutathione S-transferase and uridine diphospho-glucuronosyltransferase, and lipid peroxidation in terms of malondialdehyde levels were determined. The highest values of all the considered parameters were quantifed in liver. Results showed no differences by gender in levels of enzymatic activities in the three considered tissues. However, a statistical difference (P<0.05) in lipid peroxidation was observed in liver, fnding higher values in males. Nevertheless, the differences related to sex in this organ should be taken into account when the effect of pollutants has to be studied on specifc ecosystems. © 2014, I. de la Casa-Resino, D.
