Efficacy of two entomopathogenic nematodes strains Steinernema siamkayai and S. abbasi against the 3rd instar larvae of Chiloloba acuta
Larvae of scarabaeid beetle Chiloloba acuta (Coleoptera: Cetoninae) was found high densities in Khulekhani VDC, Makawanpur district. These insects are major pest of flower. The efficacy of two species of entomopathogenic nematodes, Steinernema siamkayai (CD1) and S. abbasi (CS1) was tested against third instar of Chiloloba acuta. In a dose response experiments, 0, 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 infective juveniles (IJs) were inoculated in 50 ml plastic vial containing 40g silt loam soil (45.3% sand, 33.5% silt, 12.2% clay 4.913 organic matter and 5.5pH) and a single C. acuta larva. Mortality of C. acuta exposed to series of increase dose of two nematodes strains was analysed two days intervals upto 14th days after the inoculation by time dose mortality regression. Between these strains, S. abbasi found more effective (LD50 44.9IJs/ml) as compared to S. siamkayai (LD50 98.1IJ/ml) after 14th days. At initial days both strains had high LD50 value and it was gradually decreased with increase time.</jats:p
Clustering models in secure clustered multiparty computation
Secure Multiparty Computation (SMC) is well-known to have serious scalability issues. In fact, in spite of many significant achievements reported in SMC literature, SMC protocols are seldom efficiently scalable to real-world applications. In this paper we propose a new scheme, called Secure Clustered Multiparty Computation (SCMC) to improve the efficiency of SMC by reducing the number of participant through clustering. SCMC improves efficiency at the expense of privacy of participants with respect to other members of the same cluster. The paper analyzes different clustering models and presents some protocols suitable for SCMC schemes
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
La raccolta del sangue cordonale: l’informazione alle donne e il pensiero delle ostetriche
Unbelical cord blood is highly enriched for blood forming stell cells and offers advantages in the setting of allogenic transplantation. Cord blood has been used in over 30 000 transplants. Since the first umbilical cord blood transplant in 1988, cord blood has been established as an alternative and important source of emapoietic stem cells.
Cord blood has several advantages over bone marrow and mobilized peripheral blood HSC for transplantation, including its availability, negligible risk to the donor, less stringent HLA matching requirements, and less chance of GVHD. Limitations of unbelical cord blood include insufficient quantity and quality, slow engraftment rates and the potential for transfer of genetically. This thesis aims at understanding what is the knowledge about cord blood collection among the female population.
It aim at recognizing the opinion of midwives about unbelical cord blood and collection in connection with scientific evidence. 130 women and 35 midwives have been interviewed at the hospital Mangiagalli in Milan.
As a result of this work, it has been discovered that women have little knowledge and awareness about this theme. It usually happens that women receive wrong information on this theme from midwives and heath experts. A high percentage of women never been discussed this issue; most of them have been received details from internet and their friends.
Considering that the 39, 23 % of interviewed women answered that the issue was addressed, the 54, 90% addressed the issue during birthing classes and the remaining percentage with doctor, during labour or at councelling center. Regarding the midwives, it has emerged from the data that a high percentage of them support the collection of cord blood but not all midwives consider it necessary. Midwives appear to be informed about cord blood collection and inclusion and exclusion criteria. In conclusion it would be helpful to present this theme during birthing classes and raise the awareness of the effectiveness and benefits of this method among women and midwives. Last thing, the creation of an informative leaflet in order to raise women’s awareness and interest to the cord blood collection
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
