The Encounter between the West and the Arab World in the Age of Nahdah (Renaissance). The Translation Movement in the Arab Literary Reviews
Microplastics in Agriculture and Food Science : Methods for Identification and Remediation
Microplastics in Agriculture and Food Science: Methods for Identification and Remediation presents fundamental insights into the sources of microplastics and their impact on important agricultural, food, and environmental resources. Presenting insights into these highly related fields, this book is the first to enable cross- and multidisciplinary understanding and application. Microplastics are tiny particles created during plastic production as well as those particles remaining when plastic degrades and breaks down. They are sometimes difficult to identify, and the methods for qualifying and classifying them are not always clear despite the importance of their recognition and remediation. With insights into analytical methods including the challenges, this book addresses microplastics from the farm to the food pyramid, highlighting the issues they raise and the options for removing them. Written by a global team of experts, this volume contributes to further understanding and addressing of this increasing global challenge, and is an excellent resource for researchers in agricultural science, environmental science, and food science (particularly food chemistry and food packaging)

Ultrafine particles in domestic environments: regional doses deposited in the human respiratory system
Based on aerosol measurements carried out in a test room, particle regional respiratory doses have been estimated for both combustion and non-combustion aerosol sources currently encountered in domestic environments. The general population chronically receives doses that, pooled together, are well above those due to urban outdoor pollution. At the end of each source operation, from 75% to 99% and from 27% to 93% of these doses are due to ultrafine particle, respectively on particle number and surface area metrics. Depending on the source, the pattern of exposure may be, for very short time laps, very intense (up to 8.0 × 109particles s−1) and involve a fraction of particles with mode at about 10 nm. For appliance operated by brush electric motors, this mode is the major one and is due to the generation of copper nanoparticles. The health relevance of such particles deserves particular attention due to their possible translocation to the brain and in the light of the associations between copper ions and Alzheimer's disease, proposed by several studies
First results on an adaptive optics pre-mode cleaning system based on interferometric phase-front detection
We present an adaptive optics (AO) system for the control of geometrical fluctuations in a laser beam based on the interferometric detection of phase front. By comparison with the usual Shack–Hartman-based AO system, we show that this technique is of particular interest when high sensitivity and high band-pass are required for correction of small perturbations such as, for instance, the control of the input beam of gravitational waves interferometric detectors

Food packaging and potential microplastics release
Food packaging systems, especially those reliant on fossil-based plastics, represent a significant source of pollution if not properly handled or disposed of. Recently, there has been increasing attention on the potential release of microplastics (MPs) from containers into food products and the consequent effects induced on human health through consumption. Therefore, this book chapter aims to provide an overview of current research on MPs production from plastic-based food packaging systems, emphasizing the main factors influencing their release. It also highlights the gaps that need to be addressed in terms of potential hazards to human health when exposed to foods contaminated with MPs. Finally, the possibility of reducing microplastic release from food packaging materials through a “green” approach is discussed, with the aim of positively impacting consumers' health
