The Network of Innovators in Jena: An Application of Social Network Analysis
No full textWe apply social network analysis methods to describe the evolution of the innovator network of Jena, Germany in the period from 1995 to 2001. We find this evolution to be directed towards an increasing focus on core competencies of the local innovation system. Further we analyze the network resulting from R&D cooperations and explain - by means of network regression techniques - that the job mobility of scientists and the technological overlap between the actors, rather than past cooperations, can best predict the resulting structure. Idealism and Objectivity: Understanding Fichte's Jena Project
No full textThe theoretical writings from Johann Gottlieb Fichte?s short tenure at Jena (1794-99) are among the most difficult and influential works of classical German philosophy. Fichte?s appropriation of Kant?s transcendental project not only established the framework for the subsequent idealist tradition (Schelling, H�lderlin, Hegel), but also introduced philosophical themes and strategies that would dominate the Continental tradition well into the twentieth century. This book offers a new interpretation of Fichte?s Jena system, focusing in particular on the problem of the objectivity of consciousness. The Jena system, the author argues, set out to develop an account of the constitutive structures of subjectivity in virtue of which conscious states have objective content. It is in the context of this project that Fichte?s central philosophical innovations must be understood: his account of the acts of ?self-positing? and ?opposing?; his attack on the thing in itself; the development of a dialectical strategy in transcendental inquiry; and his bold assertion of the ?primacy of practice.? Fichte?s investigations of objectivity find their center of gravity, it is argued, in two powerful insights. First, the theory of objectivity must be idealistic rather than naturalistic or ?dogmatic.? That is, it must transcend the conception of human beings as simply complex mechanisms determined by their causal transactions with the world. Second, the theory of objectivity must find its basis in an account of the practical character of human beings?our character as agents, comporting ourselves teleogically in a world in which we find resistance. The account of Fichte?s Jena project developed here demonstrates that Fichte?s thought is of far more than antiquarian interest. In its attempt to explore the limits of naturalistic accounts of human subjectivity and its articulation of the practical foundations of human representational capacities, Fichte?s Jena project is of direct relevance to contemporary debates in both analytic and continental philosophy

A novel fractional nonlocal model and its application in buckling analysis of Euler-Bernoulli nanobeam
No full textThe present study aims to analyze the buckling behavior of Euler- Bernoulli nanobeam in conjunction with a novel fractional nonlocal model namely conformable fractional nonlocal model. Fractional models are getting more popular among the researchers because of its applicability and fixability to handle many complex physical phenomena which are not possible to model with integer operators. Also, the main advantage of fractional models over integer model is its applicability to handle both the integer and noninteger operators which makes it much more flexible in term of real-world application. In this regards, the nonlocal constitutive relation is developed in conjunction with conformable fractional derivatives and fractional strain energy to analyze the buckling behavior of Euler-Bernoulli Nanobeam. In this study, the Simply Supported-Simply Supported (SS), Clamped-Simply Supported, and Clamped-Clamped boundary conditions are taken into the investigation with the help of the Differential Quadrature Method (DQM). Critical buckling load parameters are computed for the SS, CS, and CC boundary conditions from generalized eigenvalue problem. Graphical, as well as tabular results, are calculated by using MATLAB programmes and effects of various parameters such as fractional parameter, nonlocal parameter, aspect ratio on critical buckling load parameters extensively studied

He also serves as an Adjunct Researcher at the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) and Archimedes Research Center. His expertise lies in processing and analyzing large-scale satellite and geospatial data to advance AI for Earth Observation (AI4EO). Leading Orion Lab, which bridges NTUA and NOA, Ioannis focuses on impactful AI applications addressing climate change, disaster management, monitoring, forecasting, and Earth system sciences. His research includes foundational models in remote sensing, self-supervised learning for multi-modal EO data, vision-language models for remote sensing interpretation, and earth system deep learning for spatiotemporal forecasting. Ioannis coordinates several European projects, including Horizon Europe’s ThinkingEarth and MeDiTwin, H2020’s DeepCube, and ESA’s SeasFire, developing AI pipelines to harness Copernicus datasets. His work is pivotal in integrating AI with Earth observation to enhance environmental resilience and sustainable management
