Democratic Welfare State as Visualised by the Quaid-i-Azam
The Quaid-i-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, is known more for his political achievements than for his socio-economic thought. Last two decades, however, have seen a continuous flow of books containing his speeches, statements, messages, interviews, discussions in pre-independence legislative bodies and addresses in the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan. Even a cursory look at this vast literature shows that he was not only concerned with the political aspect of sub-continent’s independence movement but also consistently expressed his views regarding the socio-economic uplift of masses in general and Muslim society in particular. These views in their bare essentials reflect a remarkable continuity of approach from the earlier days of his political career to the period he occupied the position of Governor General of Pakistan. Actually, he became more and more expressive and forthright as the prospects of Pakistan coming into existence became bright. When Pakistan finally appeared as a sovereign nation on the map of the world, he openly rejected the prevailing economic system as having failed to do justice between man and man and to eradicate friction from the international field.
Development Priorities of the Founding Father of Pakistan
A close reading of the speeches and statements of the founding father of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, brings forth a striking consistency of understanding and approach towards priorities that the nation must determine to move steadily on the road to progress and development. These priorities were—in that order—education, industrial development and defence. Political historians generally present descriptive analyses of what appear to be radically different phases of the Quaid’s passage to lead the nation to its destiny—freedom. But at no point in any phase does one come across a weakening of resolve to advocate the priorities of Education, Industry and Defence—EID, for short. No better acronym of happiness would be possible for the Muslims of British India, EID being happiness and progress for them literally as well as religiously. After the adoption of the Pakistan Resolution in March 1940, the Quaid reiterated these priorities time and again. There is a noticeable accent in his speeches to specify the ramifications of these three pillars of progress. The most succinct statement of priorities came in March 1941. While addressing the Pakistan Session of Punjab Muslim Students Federation, the Quaid said “There are at least three main pillars which go to make a nation worthy of possessing a territory and running the government……..One is education. . . . Next, no nation and no people can ever do anything very much without making themselves economically powerful in commerce, trade and industry. And lastly, when you have got that light of knowledge by means of education and when you have made yourselves strong economically and industrially, then you have got to prepare yourselves for your defence against external aggression and to maintain internal security”.

Negotiating Families and Personal Lives in the 21st Century: Exploring Diversity, Social Change and Inequalities.
The volume presents work on continuities and change that challenge normative definitions of family. The chapters are based on lived reality and include contributions from UK, South Africa and China. The collected work is organised in two sections with some chapters linked to austerity impacts in UK and Europe; some linked to methodological innovation and some reflecting international experiences. Whilst the work is not culturally comparative we consider the global impact of neo-liberal ideology on our perceptions of family and parenting in the 21st century. The international dimension illustrates causes and consequences of globalisation and consequent effect on the economic and personal lives of individuals and families. The empirical evidence base of this volume covers the time span from early 2000’s to the present day and offers critical analysis, current thinking and research in the field of personal, intimate and family lives
Effects of dietary inclusion of vitamin C on immune and antioxidant defence system in captive reared juvenile mahseer, Tor putitora (Hamilton, 1822)
The present trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (vitamin C) on immune and antioxidant defence system in captive-reared juvenile mahseer (Tor putitora (Hamilton, 1822)). The experiment consisted of four treatments (3 replicates each), which received four semi-purified diets containing 0, 100, 200 and 300 mg.kg-1 of vitamin C. A total of 120 fish with an average initial body weight, 2.27 ± 0.01 g were distributed among 12 tanks (10 fish per tank). At the end of the 70-day experiment, all fish of each group were subjected to hypoxia stress for 48 h. Fish fed 300 mg.kg-1 vitamin C showed significantly increased (P < 0.05) serum lysozyme activity in response to hypoxia stress, followed by 200 and 100 mg.kg-1 vitamin C. Similar results were observed for glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione reductase (GSR) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. After hypoxia, malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration was considerably reduced (P < 0.05) in fish fed 300 mg.kg-1 vitamin C. These results indicated that in stressful conditions feeding diets supplemented with 300 mg.kg-1 vitamin C would be better than 200 and 100 mg.kg-1 vitamin C, to obtain the optimum immune and antioxidant status of captive-reared juvenile mahseer.Quaid-i-Azam UniversityDepartment of Animal Sciences Faculty of Biological Sciences Quaid-i-Azam UniversityAquaculture Center São Paulo State University (UNESP), Via de Acesso Prof. Paulo Donato Castellane s/nAquaculture Center São Paulo State University (UNESP), Via de Acesso Prof. Paulo Donato Castellane s/
Environmental impact assessment in the shrimp farming areas of Nagapattinam Quaid-E-Milleth district, Tamil Nadu
To assess the effects of shrimp farming on
the environment and on the coastal population,
a study was undertaken by a team of scientific
and technical staff of CMFRl in Nagapattinam
Quaid-e-Milleth district, Tamil Nadu in September,
1995. Several small and large farms and
corporate farms in nine coastal places, where a number of farms are located were
covered in the study. With the help of the mobile
laboratory of the CMFR Institute, the team
collected and aneilysed soil, water and plankton
samples in the inlet and outlet of the farm areas,
shrimp ponds and from the wells of the nearby
villages. Estimations on hydrological parameters,
nutrients and total and differential
counts of bacteria in the water and soil samples
were made following standard procedures

A method for improving the code rate and error correction capability of a cyclic code
Currently, there has been an increasing demand for operational and trustworthy digital data transmission and storage systems. This demand has been augmented by the appearance of large-scale, high-speed data networks for the exchange, processing and storage of digital information in the different spheres. In this paper, we explore a way to achieve this goal. For given positive integers n,r, we establish that corresponding to a binary cyclic code C0[n,n-r], there is a binary cyclic code C[(n+1)3k-1,(n+1)3k-1-3kr], where k is a nonnegative integer, which plays a role in enhancing code rate and error correction capability. In the given scheme, the new code C is in fact responsible to carry data transmitted by C0. Consequently, a codeword of the code C0 can be encoded by the generator matrix of C and therefore this arrangement for transferring data offers a safe and swift mode. © 2013 SBMAC - Sociedade Brasileira de Matemática Aplicada e Computacional.Department of Mathematics Quaid-i-Azam University, IslamabadDepartment of Mathematics São Paulo State University, São José do Rio Preto, SPDepartment of Mathematics São Paulo State University, São José do Rio Preto, S
Emergence of Separatist Movement in East Pakistan: Impact of Jinnah’s Leadership
This paper offers a study of the impact of leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on the Bengali Separatist Movement in its preliminary stage during the first year of the life of Pakistan when Quaid-i-Azam served as its first governor general. It would be examined whether the lingual, constitutional, economic and governmental issues, which later became asource of discontent that caused the Bengali Separatist Movement grow, were addressed by the Quaid-i-Azam Jinnah in a proper way and he did not found those mistakes which his successors in the leadership of Pakistan committed. It would also be observed that visionary leader of Quaid-i-Azam’s rank could understand the danger to the integrity of Pakistan posed by the feelings of provincialism, communism and Hindu influence in the eastern wing of Pakistan that was remote from its western part through a distance of one thousand miles. The paper will also provide a critical analysis of the steps of Quaid-i-Azam which he took for the purpose of the solidarity of newly born state of Pakistan but which steps were allegedly used as a negative propaganda against the founder of Pakistan in order to give air to the ideas of separatism in the Bengalis. In this context the Quaid’s decision for the selection of Karachi as the capital of Pakistan and his use of powers as the governor general of Pakistan would be analyzed
