Origami e superfici rigate = Origami and ruled surfaces
Designing an origami model means passing from the reading of the pure form of the object to its realization in a paper model. Modelling with origami produces dynamic models, from a single sheet of paper to the realization of a 3D shape, and the process, which does not modify the material, is reversible
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Partition of Two Interacting Electrons by a Potential Barrier
Scattering or tunneling of an electron at a potential barrier is a fundamental quantum effect. Electron-electron interactions often affect the scattering, and understanding of the interaction effect is crucial in detection of various phenomena of electron transport and their application to electron quantum optics. We theoretically study the partition and collision of two interacting hot electrons at a potential barrier in the quantum Hall regime. We predict their kinetic energy change by their Coulomb interaction during the scattering delay time inside the barrier. The energy change results in characteristic deviation of the partition probabilities from the noninteracting case. The derivation includes nonmonotonic dependence of the probabilities on the barrier height, which agrees with recent experiments, and reduction of the fermionic antibunching. This work is supported by Korea NRF via the SRC Center for Quantum Coherence in Condensed Matter (Grant No. 2016R1A5A1008184). Investigation of Open Star Clusters Alessi 98 and Ryu 762
According to the modern high-accuracy astrometric catalog Gaia DR2, the Alessi 98 and Ryu 762 clusters were studied in detail as well as their surroundings for the first time. The distance to these clusters was estimated, and estimates of their proper motions were obtained. Using kinematic and spatial criteria, the most likely cluster members were selected.
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Direction-Controlled Chemical Doping for Reversible G-Phonon Mixing in ABC Trilayer Graphene
Not only the apparent atomic arrangement but the charge distribution also defines the crystalline symmetry that dictates the electronic and vibrational structures. In this work, we report reversible and direction-controlled chemical doping that modifies the inversion symmetry of AB-bilayer and ABC-trilayer graphene. For the "top-down'' and "bottom-up'' hole injection into graphene sheets, we employed molecular adsorption of electronegative I-2 and annealing-induced interfacial hole doping, respectively. The chemical breakdown of the inversion symmetry led to the mixing of the G phonons, Raman active E-g and Raman-inactive E-u modes, which was manifested as the two split G peaks, G(-) and G(+). The broken inversion symmetry could be recovered by removing the hole dopants by simple rinsing or interfacial molecular replacement. Alternatively, the symmetry could be regained by double-side charge injection, which eliminated G(-) and formed an additional peak, G(o), originating from the barely doped interior layer. Chemical modification of crystalline symmetry as demonstrated in the current study can be applied to other low dimensional crystals in tuning their various material properties.open1136Ysciescopu
Securing XML documents with author-X
Author-X is a Java-based system that addresses the security issues of access control and policy design for XML document administration. Author-X supports the specification of policies at varying granularity levels and the specification of user credentials as a way to enforce access control. Access control is available according to both push and pull document distribution policies, and document updates are distributed through a combination of hash functions and digital signature techniques. The Author-X approach to distributed updates allows a user to verify a document's integrity without contacting the document server
