Validation of a novel, objective measure of occupational sitting
Validation of a Novel, Objective Measure of Occupational Sitting: Gemma C. RYDE, et al. St Lucia Campus, School of Human Movement Studies, The University of Queensland, Australia-Objective: To test the validity of a sitting pad (SP) to measure desk based sitting time and transitions, against camera derived direct observation; and to compare the data with those from inclinometers in the ActivPAL(3) (AP) and ActiGraph GT3X+ (AG). Methods: Australian employees (n=13; 9 women; mean age 30 +/- 6.5 years) were provided with a SP, AG and AP in 2011. A camera recorded chair based transitions during a prescribed and a free living protocol. Mean sitting time and transitions were calculated for each device and intra-class correlations (ICCs) and mean differences between (a) the SP and the camera and (b) the AP, AG and camera, were compared. Results: During the prescribed protocol, the smallest mean differences compared with the camera were for the SP; sitting time 0.30 +/- 0.21 minutes, transitions -0.46 +/- 0.78. During free living, both the SP and AP (set to record events greater than 3 seconds) showed excellent levels of agreement with the camera for sitting time (0.999 and 0.990 respectively) and transitions (0.997 and 0.928 respectively). Agreement between the camera and the AG was poor for both sitting time and transitions (0.257 and 0.033 respectively). Conclusions: The SP is a highly accurate measure of desk based sitting time and transitions and provides novel measurement and intervention opportunities for research into occupational sitting. Walking and writing, running and redrafting: towards a template for the physically-active creative
This paper investigates the interdisciplinary and symbiotic links between creativity and physical activity in order to present a template for a physically-active creative. Co-written by a Creative Writing and a Sport and Physical Activity academic, the research draws on existing literature across both disciplines and original quantitative and qualitative research. After exploring examples of famous writers and artists who undertook exercise as part of their creative process and incorporating a review of studies on creativity from the physical activity and sport context, this article then moves on to present results from a 2018 Pilot Study, undertaken at the University of Stirling, and a 2021 online Graduate Event, conducted in partnership with the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities. In doing so, the authors conclude by proposing three non- prescriptive recommendations for how to incorporate physical activity into a creative routine and foster a best practice that utilises concepts from the field of sport and physical activity to further understand and develop the creative process
What does the word ‘Europe’ make you think of? Conceptualisations of Europe in a local context
The present article investigates the construction of the sense of belonging toward Europe in the public sphere, employing a case-study conducted in Italy. The author argues that different conceptualisations of Europe are related to diverse “uses” of the media, familiarity with international cultural resources and participation in the transnational public sphere and civil society. These variables affect the construction of Europeans' sense of belonging

STRANIERO E DEVIANZA IN ITALIA
This paper examines the "immigration issue", which has taken in recent years increasing importance in Italy, especially for the uprising of social conflicts, often because of the feelings of insecurity and a false perception of immigrants as deviant, partly as a outcome of media representation. The author outlines, through the analysis of official statistics since 2001, the quantitative/qualitative scenario of irregular and illegal migration and aliens' criminality according to the changes of European and Italian politics of migration control
