The Cape of Good Hope is labeled in South Africa. The Nile River is shown originating in two lakes in the center of the map, following Ptolemy's model.
Scale: c.a. 1:21,000,000.Girolamo Ruscelli (ca. 1504-1566) was a publisher and editor in Venice. He edited and produced Ptolemy's "Geographia" (1561, 1598) (Tooley, 553).

A model for the design of wireless sensor networks using geographic routing
No full textThe design of a Wireless Sensor Network suitable to meet the applications requirements is particularly relevant in environments where it is not possible to operate after the deployment, modifying the network to respect the desired behavior. This paper proposes a model to allow performance evaluation of the network before its deployment, helping its design and the choice of the right value of the network parameters. In particular our model is tailored for wireless sensor networks using the geographic routing. The model has been both numerically analyzed and simulated showing its ability to set such parameters to meet the requirements expressed in terms of established service level
Static and dynamic stability of planing boats: application cases for an harmonized rule perspective
No full textA comprehensive investigation of recreational small craft characteristics, during the design process, should include also stability assessment of boats underway at high speed. To this aim, in order to gain insight about the transverse dynamic stability of planing boats, a methodology has been considered and implemented, following the approach proposed by Lewandowsky. An application is performed to Series 62 boats and the successive derived hulls tested at Delft University. Two different deadrise values and some other parameters like loading coefficient, longitudinal position of centre of gravity LCG and length on beam ratio are considered in the analysis, with the aim to ascertain the sensitivity of the method and to investigate a wide range of cases. Calculation are performed with and without appendages. Results are presented in terms of the maximum non dimensional KG in relation with volume Froude number. Successively, the ISO12217 stability standards are applied to the investigated cases: besides the zero speed condition, some artificial static conditions are modelled by imposition of proper draft and trim, as identified at different speeds. The max KG curve derived from the basic zero speed criteria, i.e. positive GMT, is also calculated. The resultant maximum KG curves are compared with the values found out during the dynamic investigation, allowing to get an insight in a safety rule perspective

No full textThis study indicates the ways in which various aspects of the author(s) are brought forth in Dumb type’s performance art, the S/N production. Previous research has suggested a non-hierarchical organization of Dumb type and the absence of a “privileged author” in Dumb type’s collaborative work, S/N. However, the results that I have investigated from member’s interviews on the creative process of S/N along with my analysis of the recorded images of S/N, indicate a different aspect of the author(s). First, S/N was created through, so to speak, the collective ideas of the members of Dumb type. Further, S/N has at least nine quotations from previous performances, installations, and printed writings, besides the work-in-progress technique. Explicating one of the “author functions” as given by Michel Foucault, each text has plural subjects of the author. However, it has been revealed from members’ interviews that Teiji Furuhashi had a decision-making role in selecting the members’ ideas within the performance. Since then, S/N has had plural subjects of creation; however, Furuhashi is one of the subjects of creation along with the “privileged author.” S/N has plural authors (diffusive authors) yet at the same time, it has a “privileged author,” Teiji Furuhashi (cohesive author)
