No full textLas comunicaciones móviles son actualmente una necesidad básica para mantener a la sociedad conectada, la red más extensa y utilizada a nivel global es la telefonía móvil (GSM), que a través de diferentes operadores nos garantizan un servicio de comunicación global con otros usuarios. La realidad es que esta red no es accesible a toda la población por motivos socio-económicos y a causa de la posición estratégica de los repetidores que está pensada para abastecer zonas de una gran densidad de población. Estas infraestructuras son costosas de instalar i de mantener por lo que las compañías ofrecen un servicio tarificado donde la mayor parte del coste es en función del tiempo de uso. De este modo, las compañías no garantizan una cobertura total en todo el territorio nacional, por lo que en zonas de difícil acceso o de baja población la calidad del servicio se ve afectada o acaba siendo nula. La población de estas zonas es vulnerable a no poder informar de una situación de emergencia o a sufrir los efectos de desastres medioambientales por no actuar en un corto periodo de tiempo como pueden ser incendios, inundaciones o fuertes vientos. El diseño de un dispositivo de comunicación de bajo coste y larga distancia solventaría en gran parte las necesidades descritas anteriormente. Cada dispositivo de comunicación (nodo) puede actuar como transmisor del paquete origen o como repetidor, creando así una red mallada (mesh network) donde podríamos llegar a comunicarnos entre dos puntos fuera del rango de cobertura individual.Les comunicacions mòbils són actualment una necessitat bàsica per mantenir la societat connectada, la xarxa més extensa i utilitzada a nivell global és la telefonia mòbil (GSM), que a través de diferents operadors ens garanteixen un servei de comunicació global amb altres usuaris. La realitat és que aquesta xarxa no és accessible a tota la població per motius socioeconòmics i del fet de la posició estratègica dels repetidors que està pensada per abastir zones d'una gran densitat de població. Aquestes infraestructures són costoses d'instal·lar i de mantenir de manera que les companyies ofereixen un servei tarifat on la major part de el cost és en funció de el temps d'ús. D'aquesta manera, les companyies no garanteixen una cobertura total en tot el territori nacional, de manera que en zones de difícil accés o de baixa població la qualitat del servei es veu afectada o acaba sent nul·la. La població d'aquestes zones és vulnerable a no poder informar d'una situació d'emergència o a patir els efectes de desastres mediambientals per no actuar en un curt període de temps com poden ser incendis, inundacions o forts vents. El disseny d'un dispositiu de comunicació de baix cost i llarga distància solucionaria en gran part les necessitats descrites anteriorment. Cada dispositiu de comunicació (node) pot actuar com a transmissor de l'paquet origen o com a repetidor, creant així una xarxa mallada (mesh network) on podríem arribar a comunicar-nos entre dos punts fora de la franja de cobertura individual.Mobile communications are now a basic need to keep connected the society, the most extensive and used network is the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), this technology through different operators provides a communication service all over the world with other users. The reality is that this network is not accessible to entire population by socio-economic reasons and because the strategic position of the repeaters is designed to supply areas with a high population density. These infrastructures are expensive to install and maintain, which is why companies offer a priced service where most of the cost is based on the time of use. In this way, companies do not guarantee full coverage throughout the national territory, so that in areas of difficult access of with low population the quality of the service is affected or ends up being null. The population of these areas is vulnerable to being unable to report an emergency situation or to suffer the effects of environmental disasters due to not acting in a short period of time such as fires, floods or strong winds. The design of a low-cost, long-distance communication device would largely meet the needs described above. Each communication device (node) can act as a transmitter of the source packet or as a repeater, thus creating a mesh network where we could communicate between two points outside the individual coverage range
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
