Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDFThe aim of this thesis The Armed Forces of the People's Council of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs in archival material is to systematise and present the brief history of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs with a focus on its armed forces and their origin, organization and activity in accordance with the original archival material and relevant historiographical literature. Through a thorough analysis of the relevant sources, we have assembled a contextualised overview of the brief history of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, its main policies, key figures, and institutions within the context of the policy of immediate and unavoidable unification with the Kingdoms of Serbia and Montenegro into the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. The main topics covered are the overview of the socio-political state within the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the last year of World War One with a focus on the state of affairs within the area of the future State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, which serves as an introduction and provides context for the events and developments covered in the thesis. Following that, we have an examination of the unrest and rioting that broke out as the functions of the dissolving Empire were disintegrating and the foundation of the new State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs with a detailed review of its administration, policies, activity as well as key political figures of the newly founded State. The primary focus of the thesis is the founding, organisation and activity of the newly founded State’s Armed Forces which is covered through an extensive aggregation of data drawn from the archival material, publications and relevant literature. Our conclusion is that the transitory nature of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs within the policy of unification with the Kingdoms of Serbia and Montenegro proved to be a decisive factor in the disorganisation of its affairs and the inactivity of the relevant parties within the State which in turn led to the, with very rare exceptions, the almost complete inefficacy of its Armed Forces in relieving and resolving any of the pressing issues, both internal and external, facing the newly founded State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs.Cilj ovog rada “Oružane snage Narodnog vijeća Slovenaca, Hrvata i Srba u arhivskog građi“ je sistematizacija i predstavljanje kratke povijesti Države Slovenaca, Hrvata i Srba sa posebnim fokusom na njezine oružane snage i njihov osnutak, organizaciju i djelovanje u skladu sa izvornom arhivskom građom i relevantnom historiografskom literaturom. Detaljnom analizom relevantnih izvora sastavljen je kontekstualizirani pregled kratke povijesti Države Slovenaca, Hrvata i Srba, njenih glavnih politika, ključnih aktera i institucija unutar konteksta politike neposrednog i neizbježnog ujedinjenja sa Kraljevstvima Srbijom i Crnom Gorom u Kraljevstvo Srba, Hrvata i Slovenaca. Glavne teme obrađene u ovom radu su pregled sociopolitičke situacije unutar Austro-Ugarske Monarhije u zadnjoj godini Prvog svjetskog rata sa posebnim fokusom na stanje na teritoriju buduće Države Slovenaca, Hrvata i Srba koje služi kao uvod i izvor konteksta za događaje i kretanja kojima se bavimo u ovome radu. Slijedeće donosimo pregled nemira i nereda koji su izbijali paralelno sa dezintegracijom upravnih aparata nestajuće Monarhije i osnutkom nove Države Slovenaca, Hrvata i Srba uz detaljan prikaz administracije, politika, djelovanja i ključnih ličnosti novonastale Države Slovenaca, Hrvata i Srba. Primarni fokus ovog rada je osnutak, organizacija i djelovanje oružanih snaga novonastale Države koje je obrađeno kroz ekstenzivnu agregaciju podataka sakupljenih iz arhivske građe, publikacija i relevantne literature. Naš zaključak je da je tranzitivna priroda Države Slovenaca, Hrvata i Srba unutar politike ujedinjenja sa Kraljevstvima Srbijom i Crnom Gorom bila ključni faktor u dezorganizaciji njezina djelovanja te neaktivnosti ključnih organa i ličnosti unutar Države Slovenaca, Hrvata i Srba koji je doveo do, uz veoma rijetke iznimke, skoro potpune neučinkovitosti njezinih oružanih snaga u olakšavanju i rješavanju raznovrsnih internih i eksternih problema s kojima se suočavala novonastala Država Slovenaca, Hrvata i Srba

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
