The portrayal of women in Mao Dun's early fiction 1927-1932

It is the prevailing critical assessment of Mao Dun's early creative writing that he displays a singular insight in his portrayal of women. This thesis seeks not only to challenge this assessment by a predominantly male body of criticism but also the assumptions on which it is based, namely that an intellectual sympathy for the women’s cause necessarily implies a transcendence of the patriarchal attitudes with which society is imbued. The major short stories and novellas written between 1927 and 1932 are analysed systematically to identify Mao Dun's underlying attitudes towards women. His portrayal of women is assessed from the following perspectives:~ his autobiographical accounts of his encounters with women in his political and personal life and his deliberate association of his female comrades with his creative inspiration;- traditional Chinese perceptions of women and gender roles as these are manifested in the classical tradition;-- Mao Dun's numerous articles and essays on the women's question written during the nineteen twenties and his work in the women's section of the Party in Shanghai;- Mao Dun's attempt to reconcile his conflicting sympathies for feminism and socialism. This thesis relies for its methodology on Western feminist criticism. While the approach is maintained, in its application to the context of early twentieth century China, its eurocentrism in terms of cultural assumptions and perceptions of gender has been replaced by a definition of Chinese values. Since a fundamental prerequisite, of feminist criticism is the assessment of the writer in his/her own cultural context, a historical survey of the portrayal of women in traditional literature is provided to serve as a standard against which to measure Mao Dun’s portrayal

[[abstract]]Ma Rui-Chen was one of the representative scholar in middle period Qing Dynasty .On "the Book of Songs" studying history, his "Mao-Shi- Chuan-Jian-Tong-Shi" with Hu Cheng-Gong "Mao-Shi-Hou-Jian" Chen Huan "Shi-Mao-Shi-Chuan-Shu" enjoy equal popularity, belong to first- c1ass doing handed down from ancient times. In the view of Ma, a lot of "Mao-Shi-Zheng-Yi" misunderstand "Mao-Chuan" and "ZhengJian". So Ma Rui-Chen wanted to write a study to fix those problems This is a great work that is very difficult. "Za-Kao-Ge-Shuo" charge 19 articles, those study was the basic viewpoint of Ma Rui-Chen .But we have to use that to read the whole book. The most important articles were "Shi-Ru-Le-Shuo" "Shi-Ren-Yi-Tong-Zi-Bian-Li", "Mao-Shi-Gu-Wen-Duo-Jia-Jie". The first study was talk about "the Book of Songs" and its music. another studies were the important view of Ma. These three articles shows Ma Rui-Chen outstanding work, but we have to say there was someplace wrong

Calcium ions alter monoamine oxidase A activity

    S. Armstrong graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2011Activation of the flavoprotein monoamine oxidase A (MAO A) by calcium ions has been reported in isolated mitochondria, in cell lines, and in vivo. Enhanced MAO A activity has been associated with a rise in oxidative damage (1,2), and with apoptosis in a neuronal cell line (5). Here, purified human MAO A and membrane-bound MAO A and B were used to investigate the direct regulation of MAO activity by Ca2+ ions. At fixed substrate concentration the activity of purified MAO A was stimulated (<20%) by Ca2+ over a physiological range, a much smaller effect than observed in cells; Mg2+ and Mn2+ had no effect. However, when chelating agents (EDTA or EGTA) were added to remove divalent ions present in the water, MAO A activity was increased, but addition of 1 mM Ca2+ to the chelating buffer resulted in inhibition of activity requiring 10 min to reach the minimum. When assayed in HEPES buffer (50 mM, pH 7.4) without chelator, Ca2+ caused mixed-type inhibition of kynuramine oxidation with a Ki of 0.3 mM for binding to free enzyme. We conclude that Ca2+ (but not Mg2+ or Mn2+) interacts directly with purified MAO A to change the kinetic parameters resulting in decreased activity. In contrast, with membrane-bound MAO A (but not membrane-bound MAO B), Ca2+ enhances activity by doubling the Vmax without a change in KM. Recently, molecular dynamics simulations suggested that membrane attachment altered the conformational dynamics of MAO A and facilitated the opening of the substrate tunnel. The data here are consistent with a conformational change induced by Ca2+, the effect of which is different when the enzyme is stabilised in the membrane

However, the research is disconnected, the models are parameter-dependent, and the experimental sites are distributed sporadically. The analysis of new materials and designs is also fragmented. Greenhouse modeling and simulation has progressively incorporated an increasing number of factors. With the development of remote sensing technology, ”big data,” and machine learning, based on the numerous existing cases, we developed a general greenhouse model for all the passive greenhouse designs. Energy analysis of the construction and performance for new designs can add to cost analysis to form an integrated design of passive solar greenhouses for all four seasons. We built a mathematical model of the integrated greenhouse in Python. The preliminary case studies indicated the validity of the model. The general performance of the greenhouse was first analyzed, then set as the reference to study the existing designs (climate battery, earth shelter, and heat-sink wall) and the innovative designs (half-soil roof and double-layer roof). A four-season passive solar greenhouse was finally developed by integrating all these concepts with energy and construction cost considerations. Our project indicated that shallow geothermal heating and cooling systems have limitations; backwall primarily serves as insulation and is unsuitable for thermal energy storage. A solid roof segment at appropriate angles can ensure winter daylighting while blocking excessive radiation during summer. A double-layered roof enhances insulation performance and allows for better compatibility with additional internal control designs. Proper cover and ground designs can genuinely achieve a self-regulating mechanism for greenhouse winter warmth and summer coolness
