Motorcycle tire testing on a rotating disc machine

    No full text
Tire properties play an important role in two-wheeled vehicle dynamics. Hence, tire properties have to be measured both to compare objectively the performances of different tires and to develop tire models that are necessary for multi-body simulation. The measurement of motorcycle tires requires particular testing facilities because the camber angle (which is the angle between the symmetry plane of the tire and the plane perpendicular to the road surface) reaches large values (>50°) and has a large influence on the forces and torques exerted by the road on the tire. In particular in many actual conditions the lateral force due to camber (camber force) may be larger than the sideslip force. The component of the yaw moment due to camber (twisting torque) does not tend to align and in many conditions may be larger than the self-aligning moment due to tire trail

Dynamic Properties of Motorcycle and Scooter Tires, Measurement and Comparison

    No full text
Results of an experimental research program dealing with motorcycle and scooter tires are presented. Experimental tests were carried out by means of a rotating disk test machine, which is particularly suited to test tires in the presence of large camber angles. First, the capabilities of the rotating disk machine are discussed and results are compared with the ones obtained by means of other test machines. Then the properties of several motorcycle and scooter tires are presented and compared. The advantage of presenting results in terms of camber and sideslip stiffness is highlighted. The effect of tire working conditions (inflation pressure, load and temperature) is analyzed. Finally the measurement of tire torques is discussed and some results dealing with self-aligning, twisting and rolling resistance torques are presented

Identification of motorcycle tire properties by means of a testing machine

This paper describes an experimental research program aimed to quantify the concept of “relaxation length” of the rolling, steered and cambered motorcycle tire. Hypothesis about the transient behaviour of lateral force are compared for the general motorcycle tire and a new mathematical model suited to the case of enforced steer motion is developed. In the first part of this paper the particular features of the tester machine developed at University of Padova are highlighted. Many cross-ply and radial-ply tires with different tread and ply materials were tested. Experimental data obtained my means of the rotating disc tester machine are analyzed by means of the mathematical model. The effect on transient behaviour of important working conditions like tire load and inflation pressure is presented and discussed

Interactive Learning Environment as Innovative Teaching Method for Entrepreneurship Education

    No full text
The main aim of this paper is to show an innovative web-based interactive learning environment (ILE) for promoting and improving entrepreneurship in a complex and non-linear business context. The web-based ILE allows the interaction among participants both at national and international level in order to stimulate the sharing of knowledge and experience. The adoption of an ILE as teaching method will help entrepreneurs to become more aware of their entrepreneurial attributes and skills and see entrepreneurship as a realistic and interesting career path

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
