Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Accesibilidad y su alcance para las personas con discapacidad en el Paraguay
No full textAccessibility is a basic principle discussed in disability related areas coming from the United Nations Organization (UN), which is why the concept has been included in policies since 2006, incorporated as one of the basic fundaments of people with disabilities’ rights. The legal framework for accessibility is initially stated in the International Bill of Rights which is formed by three basic documents: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), the International Covenant of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1966). The objective of the research is to investigate the legislative framework of accessibility at national level and its real scope in the lives of people with disabilities seen from institutions and organizations of persons with disabilities. Paraguayan state recognizes the fulfillment of people with disabilities’ rights as a necessary condition and assumes responsibility on accessibility from the creation of the National Secretariat of People with Disability’s Rights (SENADIS for its acronym in Spanish) (Law 4720), even though there is advance, there are still big challenges for non-governmental organizations, for the state, and for all citizens in terms of living in diversity without losing rights.La accesibilidad es un principio básico al ser abordado temáticas relacionadas a la discapacidad, desde la Organización de las Naciones Unidas ONU, por ello el concepto ha sido incluido en las políticas viéndose en el 2006 incorporado como uno de los fundamentos básicos de los derechos de las personas con discapacidad. El marco jurídico que la accesibilidad está dada inicialmente por la Carta Internacional de los Derechos Humanos que está formada por tres documentos básicos: la Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos (1948), el Pacto Internacional de Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Culturales (1966) y el Pacto Internacional de Derechos Civiles y Políticos (1966). El objetivo de la investigación, es indagar sobre el marco legislativo de la accesibilidad a nivel nacional y su alcance real en la vida de las personas con discapacidad, vista desde las instituciones y las organizaciones de personas con discapacidad. Los resultados muestran que el Estado paraguayo reconoce como una condición necesaria para el cumplimiento de los derechos de las personas con discapacidad y asume responsabilidad sobre la accesibilidad a partir de la creación a través de la Ley Nº 4720/2012, de la Secretaría Nacional por los Derechos de las Personas con Discapacidad (SENADIS), si bien se está avanzando aún hay grandes desafíos, para las organizaciones no gubernamentales, para el Estado y para todos los ciudadanos, en lo que hace vivir en la diversidad sin perder derechos

No full textThe aim of this study is to analyze the specificity of social work intervention in disability —also called today “functional diversity”—based on the experience of professionals with a long history in the area, taking Paraguay as the main context. Disability as a field of professional intervention historically constituted at the international level, and later at the national level requires debates about what should be and the professional being. In this task where theory and practice are in permanent tension. The article expresses a starting point to approach the intervention of social work with its multiple edges in this field so complex and challenging in terms of needs, achievements and achievements.El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar la especificidad de la intervención del trabajo social en discapacidad a partir de la experiencia de profesionales con larga trayectoria en el área, tomando como contexto principal Paraguay. La discapacidad —también llamada hoy “diversidad funcional”—, como campo de intervención profesional históricamente constituido a nivel internacional, y más tardía a nivel nacional, requiere de debates en torno al deber ser y al ser del quehacer profesional en donde se encuentran en tensión permanente la teoría y la práctica. El artículo expresa un punto de partida para abordar la intervención del trabajo social desde sus múltiples aristas, en este campo tan complejo y desafiante en lo que a necesidades, conquistas y logros se refiere
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
