Get PDFThe article presents liturgical movement in Western Europe stressing its classical period and activities of many liturgical institutes. Moreover, the author describes the liturgical renewal movement in Poland before the Second Vatican Council and characterizes the centers of liturgical movement in Płock, Vilnius, Lvov, Lublin, Cracow, Poznań, Gniezno, and Cieszyn. Further the author discusses the main ideas of liturgical renewal present in the works of Polish theologians and shows the profiles of forerunners of liturgical renewal and their activities.Artykuł przedstawia ruch liturgiczny w Europie Zachodniej z podkreśleniem jego okresu klasycznego oraz działalności wielu instytutów liturgicznych. Ponadto autor opisuje ruch odnowy liturgicznej w Polsce przed Soborem Watykańskim II i charakteryzuje ośrodki ruchu liturgicznego w Płocku, Wilnie, Lwowie, Lublinie, Krakowie, Poznaniu, Gnieźnie i Cieszynie. Dalej autor omawia główne idee odnowy liturgicznej obecne w pracach polskich teologów i pokazuje sylwetki prekursorów odnowy liturgicznej i ich działalność
Getting beneath the surface: scapegoating and the systems approach in a post-munro world
Get PDFThe publication of the Munro Review of Child Protection: Final Report (2011b, Department for Education, London) was the culmination of an extensive and expansive consultation process into the current state of child protection practice across the UK. Despite the concern about ‘blame’ within the report, there is, surprisingly, at no point an explicit reference to the dynamics and practices of ‘scapegoating’ that are so closely associated with organisational blame cultures. This paper examines this gap in understanding of the recurrence of shortcomings in child care social work practice and suggests that unless the dynamics of scapegoating are more fully understood, new developments, such as the systems approach advocated by Munro, will fall short of their potential impact. A critical review of existing understanding of scapegoating is presented and the paper concludes by outlining initiatives to counter the detrimental effect of scapegoating of everyday practice

Communication skills training for practice: the ethical dilemma for social work education
No full textA recent review of the literature on the learning and teaching of communication skills revealed that little attention has been paid to the appropriateness of communication skills training for the contemporary social work environment. Current approaches to skills teaching in social work education emphasise the development of empathy within the context of a ‘helping relationship’. The disparity between this model of social work and contemporary expectations, that social workers seek to understand and categorise individuals primarily through bureaucratic procedures, causes confusion and difficulty for students. As social work educators we face an ethical dilemma. Should we teach students to communicate in a way that conforms to the priorities and pressures of current practice? Or should we retain the focus on inter-personal skills and on engaging with the worlds of service users?In this paper we examine the disparity between social work as conceived within communication skills training and as practised in the current UK context. We consider the implications for social work education and conclude with suggestions for developing communication skills teaching in ways that equip students to engage with the ‘realities’ of practice and to challenge the shortcomings encountered
