Poems for the Millennium : Jerome Rothenberg and Pierre Joris read Charles Reznikoff Poems for the Millennium is both an attempt to map radical world poetries and a long poem, a collage-montage-nexus of found poetries. When Jerome Rothenberg and Pierre Joris leave out Kaddish from their anthologisation of Charles Reznikoff s modular series Testimony (Going To and Fro and Walking Up and Down 1941), they privilege surface disjointed collage against a view of poetical language as a process of discursive dissemination. The Reznikoffian aesthetics of graft, rupture and germination is sidestepped by a preference for dislocation in collage-montage-assemblage.Poems for the Millennium tente de cartographier les écritures poétiques radicales et constitue un poème long, un collage-montage-nexus de poésies trouvées. Quand Jerome Rothenberg et Pierre Joris amputent Kaddish de la série modulaire Testimony (Going To and Fro and Walking Up and Down 1941), ils privilégient la surface et la dislocation dans le collage-montage-assemblage au détriment de l'esthétique reznikoffienne de la greffe, brisure et germination, qui fait du langage poétique un processus de dissémination discursive.Cohen-Cheminet Geneviève. «Poems for the millennium» : Jerome Rothenberg et Pierre Joris lisent Charles Reznikoff. Diffusive author(s), cohesive author: Analysis of S/N (1994)

    No full text
This study indicates the ways in which various aspects of the author(s) are brought forth in Dumb type’s performance art, the S/N production. Previous research has suggested a non-hierarchical organization of Dumb type and the absence of a “privileged author” in Dumb type’s collaborative work, S/N. However, the results that I have investigated from member’s interviews on the creative process of S/N along with my analysis of the recorded images of S/N, indicate a different aspect of the author(s). First, S/N was created through, so to speak, the collective ideas of the members of Dumb type. Further, S/N has at least nine quotations from previous performances, installations, and printed writings, besides the work-in-progress technique. Explicating one of the “author functions” as given by Michel Foucault, each text has plural subjects of the author. However, it has been revealed from members’ interviews that Teiji Furuhashi had a decision-making role in selecting the members’ ideas within the performance. Since then, S/N has had plural subjects of creation; however, Furuhashi is one of the subjects of creation along with the “privileged author.” S/N has plural authors (diffusive authors) yet at the same time, it has a “privileged author,” Teiji Furuhashi (cohesive author)

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Invisible privilege a memoir about race, class, and gender

    No full text
"In this candid look at the realities of social and academic privilege, Rothenberg shares incidents from her life and the lives of family and friends to show how privilege is constructed and to reveal the forces that make us unaware of it. Through recollections of her childhood in an upper-middle-class Jewish family and her college years in the sixties, she tells us how she discovered that the world she took for granted as "everyday life" was in fact riddled with privilege." "Reviewing the social upheaval of the seventies that challenged fundamental assumptions about gender roles, race relations, and even the nature of the family, Rothenberg tells how she gained a new understanding of what it meant to be an educator and activist. She shares personal events surrounding the publication of Race, Class and Gender to offer an insider's perspective on the culture wars, and brings her story into the 1990s with a cogent discussion of hate speech and the controversy over "political correctness."" "She also offers a hard-hitting critique of current teaching practices and a response to critics of multiculturalism and feminism, as well as a look at how de facto segregation continues in American education in the form of tracking." "Both deeply personal and broadly social, this memoir will capture the interest of anyone who cares about the future of education, race relations, feminism, and social justice."--BOOK JACKET

Recent advances in potential targets for eosinophilic esophagitis treatments

    No full text
Introduction: Diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) are constantly evolving. Recently, the improved understanding of EoE pathogenesis has led to identification of a variety of other potential targets that have never been considered before. Areas covered: In September 2019, we performed structured literature searches in Medline and PubMed, Cochrane meta-analyses, and abstracts of international congresses to review new potential therapeutic approaches for EoE. Expert opinion: The advent of omics disciplines has been helping in finding new molecular targets in EoE pathogenesis and may provide future guidance for deep phenotyping of the disease and therefore facilitate the possibility of personalized medicine. Interestingly, these new treatments should be focused on the restoration of epithelial barrier dysfunction, downregulation of specific molecular pathways of eosinophilic inflammation, and finally, prevention of esophageal remodeling. In this review, we highlight the most recent insights in EoE pathogenesis, which open new pathways for developing new therapeutic targets for clinical practice

Left extralobar pulmonary sequestration and a right aorto-topulmonary vein fistula in a newborn : a 3-mm thoracoscopic monolateral approach

An extralobar pulmonary sequestration (EPS) associated with a contralateral aorto-to-pulmonary vein fistula is rare. We report the case of a female newborn with left EPS fed by an artery originating from the distal thoracic aorta and, symmetrically on the controlateral side, an artery shunting in the inferior right pulmonary vein. Echocardiography showed dilatation of the left atrium. On the 34th day since birth (weight 4500 g), the patient was operated on thoracoscopically. The EPS was closed with a 3-mm sealing system, divided and removed. A window in the mediastinal pleura was created, and the origin of the fistula was identified and sealed. The postoperative course was uneventful. The patient was discharged on Day 4 with no echocardiographic signs of persistence of the fistula and of the congestive heart failure. This is the first case report of a thoracic large systemic circulation-to-pulmonary vein fistula causing heart failure associated with EPS. The thoracoscopic monolateral approach and the availability of 3-mm instruments guaranteed a maximum level of minimal invasiveness
