No full textThese two volumes constitute the second part (nun-taw) of the Syriac-Arabic dictionary of the 10th cent. physician Isho bar Ali (the first half of the dictionary had been published in 1874 by G. Hoffmann). Each Syriac word is defined in Arabic, often with more than one Arabic equivalent; in addition, the author deals not just with individual Syriac words, but in some cases with phrases. Gottheil used 21 manuscripts (from Oxford, London, Paris, Berlin, Leiden, and Rome) for this edition, and he has supplied a thorough critical apparatus; the manuscripts are described in the introduction. While some manuscripts give the Arabic glosses in Syriac characters (i.e. Garshuni), Gottheil has presented them here in Arabic script. These two volumes will be of great interest to Syriac lexicographers and those who study interactions between Syriac and Arabic.Contains an English introduction by Richard J.H. Gotthei

The Effects of Conflict Transformation on Knowledge Creation Within Organizations in the Kingdom of Bahrain
No full textConflicts have evolved into complex structures, encompassing actors, issues and goals that are both dynamic and interweaved (Galtung and Fischer, 2013). The organization under study had been experiencing such complex forms of conflict and further investigation was called for due to the presence of continual episodes of interpersonal conflicts among its stakeholders. The non-linear, multifaceted nature of the conflict led to the selection of the conflict transformation approach as a means of addressing the issue as, according to Miall (2004), conflict transformation is a reconceptualized expansion of the more generic field of conflict resolution.
Various manifestations of organizational issues had been observed, including impaired internal functions, interruptions to business, and high staff turnaround, which increased the cost of recruitment and training. Furthermore, the general decline in the health of the organization, as a result of the persistent conflict between its stakeholders, was combined with compromised levels of knowledge creation, evidenced by its weak competitive position, and lack of agility, creativity and responsiveness. To address this situation, this research explores ways in which conflict transformation can be applied to organizational conflict in the Kingdom of Bahrain and identifies its effects on knowledge creation.
This research, which is rooted in practical relevance, was conducted in a training and consultancy firm located in the Kingdom of Bahrain, using action research in conjunction with interpretive methodology. As derived from the findings of the research, the organization under study incorporated four elements of organizational conflict transformation into its culture, namely a. communication, b. momentum, c. inclusiveness and d. reduced levels of past unaddressed organizational conflict; post-action evaluation was then conducted in four separate phases.
This research makes two distinct contributions to knowledge and professional practice. First, the research establishes that incorporating the above-mentioned four organizational conflict transformation elements into the organizational culture is an effective means of implementing conflict transformation in organizations operating in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Second, the effect of organizational conflict transformation on knowledge creation within organizations operating in the Kingdom of Bahrain is found to be positive
Introduction to the special issue call for qualitative research tutorials in Contemporary Administration Studies: An editorial
No full textIn the editorial for our special issue call, we outlined our perspective of qualitative research and the need to address the teaching of qualitative methods to help foster more rigorous application of qualitative research in contemporary administration and management studies (Lanka, Lanka, Rostron, & Singh, 2021). Our call for tutorial papers in RAC (Revista de Administração Contemporânea) (Lanka, Lanka, Rostron, & Singh, 2019) was the mechanism through which we aimed to promote awareness, understanding, and learning of how to properly and effectively apply qualitative research methods for administration and management researchers. This current editorial aims to position our special issue as well as present our thoughts on important and pressing issues related to qualitative research in contemporary administration and management studies. We believe these issues are critical to the future of qualitative research in our field. We will also present the papers that were accepted to the special issue and outline how each one promotes understanding of qualitative research methods

No full textThe central theme of this volume is the work of Sabahattin Ali, the Turkish author and translator from German into Turkish who achieved posthumous success with his novel Kürk Mantolu Madonna (The Madonna in the Fur Coat). Our contributors analyze this novel, which takes place largely in Germany, and several other texts by Ali in the context of world literature, (cultural) translation, and intertextuality. Their articles go far beyond the intercultural love affair that has typically dominated the discussion of Madonna. Other articles consider Zafer Şenocak’s essay collection Deutschsein and transcultural learning through picture books. An interview with Selim Özdoğan rounds out the issue.Im Mittelpunkt dieses Bandes steht das Werk des türkischen Autors und Übersetzers aus dem Deutschen Sabahattin Ali, der mit seinem Roman Kürk Mantolu Madonna (Die Madonna im Pelzmantel) zu posthumem Ruhm gelangte. Der Roman, der zum Großteil in Deutschland spielt, und andere seiner Werke werden unter Aspekten der Weltliteratur, (kultureller) Übersetzung und Intertextualität diskutiert. Damit reicht der Fokus weit über die bislang im Vordergrund stehende interkulturelle Liebesgeschichte in der Madonna hinaus.
