Distance Learning for Pepper and Corn Breeding and Seed Production
AbstractThe one-year vocational education in seed breeding and production technology (SBP) at Padjadjaran University provide an opportunity for seed professionals to produce pepper and corn seed. Nowadays most of food-crop farmers in Indonesia grow pepper and corn by using, mainly, imported seed. The production of local pepper and corn seed reached only 10% and 35,86% of national need. The purpose of SBP program i s to provide breeders which have general knowledge and practice in pepper and corn seed production. The emphasis of this education method is distance learning for develop students knowledge in simple method of plant breeding, plant variety protection, registration of plant variety for seed distribution and seed certification. However, improving practical knowledge by distance learning will not guarantee the effectiveness of the program to deliver qualified breeder and seed producer. Laboratory, green house as well as field works should be performed so that students will have sufficient understanding and experience as breeder and seed producer when they work in seed company or they found their own company. To support this hybrid vocational education program, lectures from University attend and monitor student work regularly

"Dangerous Citizens" Online: a case study of an author-press-library partnership
This essay traces how Neni Panourgiá, Professor of Anthropology at Columbia University, Fordham University Press and the Columbia Center for Digital Research and Scholarship worked together to produce an online book that strives not to replace but to augment the printed book it accompanies. The 'synaesthetic' reading experience provided by the online book enables readers to experience more fully the author's rich fieldwork materials and to customize their own reading of the various texts that make up the book, thereby gaining a better sense of the multiple levels of anthropological analysis. Moreover, the online book can remain open-ended, enabling ongoing updating. Particular attention is devoted to the challenges faced by the digital project and the aspects of the partnership that made the project a success
Genetic diversity of local variety of peanut based on isoflavones, total fat, and unsaturated fatty acid content characters
Genetic diversity of peanut germ plasm is important for plant breeder
in making decision regarding selection and method of plant breeding. The data
of isoflavones, fats, and unsaturated fatty acid characters were used to
estimated genetic diversity. This study was expected to provide information of
peanut breeding in the future. The result of this study showed that the genetic
diversity of 22 peanut accesions was narrow

THE APPEARANCE OF PHENOTYPIC CHARACTER ON FIVE GENOTYPES OF CAYENNE PEPPER
This study was aimed at determining the appearance of phenotypic characters in five cayenne genotypes in Sukamantri, Ciamis Regency. The research method used was the experimental method with Randomized Block Design (RBD) with five treatments repeated five times. Data were analyzed by variance and followed by Least Significant Difference (LSD) Test. The testing material consisted of five genotypes of cayenne pepper, namely one of the new superior varieties (Ratuni Unpad), and four varieties (CR8873, Dewata, Taruna, and Rabani). The tests were carried out in Sukamantri, Ciamis Regency in 983 m asl in August 2017 to February 2018. The observations were made on the character of the results and components of results which included the seed length, the seed diameter, the seed weight per unit, the seed weight per plant, the seed weight per plot, and the seed weight per hectare. The test results showed that there were differences in phenotypic characters between the five genotypes tested. The Dewata, Ratuni Unpad, and CR8873 genotypes show the highest potential yield (8.34 tons/ha, 7.71 tons/ha, and 7.24), with the character of fruit weights per fruit of 1.382 grams, 0.911 grams respectively. and 1,311 grams.PENAMPILAN KARAKTER FENOTIPIK HASIL PADA LIMA GENOTIP CABAI RAWITPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penampilan karakter fenotipik pada lima genotip cabai rawit di Sukamantri, Kabupaten Ciamis.

Nitrogen-fixing Azotobacter is widely used as biofertilizer in sustainable agriculture. The bacteria produce exopolysaccharide which might have a significant role in enhancing soybean nitrogen uptake and growth. The objective of this research was to obtain growth media of Exopolysaccharide–producing Azotobacter; and increase shoot and root growth as well as nitrogen uptake of soybean var. Anjasmoro at early vegetative phase following inoculation of Azotobacter chroococcum liquid. Research consist of two phase, 1) determination of organic-based media for A. chroococcum liquid inoculant production, and 2) pot experiment for application of liquid inoculant on soybean. The first experiment was performed in a series of batch fermenter consisted of several organic media for 72 hours. The second experiment was set in completely randomized design consisted of three density of liquid inoculant. The results verified that the best media which induced exopolysachharide production of A. chroococcum was 1% molase enriched with 0.1% NH4Cl. Liquid inoculant clearly enhanced population of Azotobacter in soybean rhizosphere, plant height, roots dry weight and N uptake of 21 day old soybean. This research implied that A. chroococcum might be used as biofertilizer at early growth of soybean
