Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Analysis of 3D Motion Data from Shaking Table Tests on a Scaled Model of Hagia Irene, Istanbul
The present paper focuses on the use of a 3D motion capture system for the dynamic identification and the damage monitoring of a 1:10 scaled mock-up (representing the large historic masonry structure of Hagia Irene, Istanbul) tested on shaking table at the ENEA Casaccia Research Center located near Rome, Italy. The dynamic identification of the structure during the shaking table tests was obtained by several techniques of Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA), such as FRF, FDD and EFDD. To such purpose Displacement Data Processing (DDP) of a large number of markers of the 3DVision (the passive 3D motion capture system installed at the ENEA laboratory) was performed. Markers were located on the tested mock-up accordingly to the indications of preliminary FEM analysis and modal shapes. Also conventional accelerometers were placed on the physical model and used as reference for the analysis of 3DVision data. In addition, the analysis of Markers Relative Displacements (MRDs) was useful to detect the occurrence and development of fractures during the tests, contributing to assessing the actual progress of the structural damage. The results from EMA techniques and MRDs analysis of 3DVision data are illustrated, showing the potentialities of this monitoring system in integrating the two complementary approaches
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Numerical and operational modal analyses of the “Ponte delle Torri”, Spoleto, Italy
The Ponte delle Torri is a large historical construction that connects Colle Sant’Elia with Mount Monteluco in Spoleto, Italy. It was probably built in the XIII century, possibly on Etruscan or Roman ruins. The bridge superstructure is made up of a pedestrian deck, provided with a water canal on one side, supported by lancet arcades and stone piers known as “towers”. As testified by recent documentation and on-site inspections, the bridge’s state of damage is rather widespread and extended, urging local and national institutions to start suitable structural monitoring activities, which were included within the RoMA (Resilience enhancement of a Metropolitan Area) project. The project comprises many monitoring techniques (high-resolution photogrammetry, 3D laser scanning, FBG monitoring, satellite InSAR, etc.) to assess the bridge cracks pattern and its structural health by a multidisciplinary approach that permits mutual validation. In particular, the present paper describes the numerical and operational modal analyses performed for the study of the structure and the methodology for the validation of the implemented Finite Element Models (FEMs). As a first step for the study of the bridge, the modal analysis of a preliminary FEM was executed in order to have an idea of the dynamic behavior of the structure and to guide the design of the on-site sensors positions. In such positions ambient noise was measured with velocimeters. Then, more refined FEMs were constructed and validated. In particular, mono-, bi- and tri-dimensional FEMs were generated through different numerical techniques and their resulting modal analyses were compared with the results of Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) techniques applied to the recorded velocimeters data

Verifica su tavola vibrante degli effetti delle vibrazioni su frammenti lapidei ricomposti tramite innovativo sistema meccatronico sviluppato nel progetto RestArt
Nell’ambito del progetto RestArt finanziato su bando POR FESR 2014-2020, è stato sviluppato un innovativo metodo tramite sistema meccatronico per la ricomposizione di precisione di frammenti lapidei, tematica molto rilevante per il restauro di statue ed elementi architettonici antichi. Al fine di verificare l’efficacia dell’innovativo metodo di imperniaggio di precisione messo a punto ed ideato dall’Arch. P. M. Nardelli per Ma.Co.Rè. s.r.l., partner capofila del progetto RestArt, sono state svolte presso il C.R. ENEA Casaccia una serie di prove su tavola vibrante consistenti nell’applicare a provini rappresentativi di frammenti lapidei ricomposti (con il suddetto metodo innovativo e, per confronto, con la tecnica di imperniaggio tradizionale) delle vibrazioni a intensità estremamente elevata, riproducendo la vibrazione generata da terremoti estremi o da trasporti ad alta velocità su strada fortemente sconnessa.Within the framework of the RestArt project (funded by Lazio Region through the POR FESR 2014- 2020 program), an innovative mechatronic-based method for the high-precision reassembling of stone fragments was developed, which is intended to give a substantial contribution to improve the restoration of ancient statues and architectural elements. The RestArt reassembling method was invented and designed by P. M. Nardelli for Ma.Co.Rè. s.r.l., coordinator of the project. In order to verify the efficiency of the new high-precision reassembling method a series of shaking table tests were carried out at ENEA Casaccia research center. The tested samples, comprising fragmented stone specimens reassembled by the new and the traditional methods, were subjected to extreme vibration inputs, such as strong motion earthquakes and high-speed wheeled transport on bumpy road

Questo rapporto presenta i risultati di prove su tavola vibrante effettuate nell’ambito del progetto europeo PERPETUATE. Lo scopo di PERPETUATE è la valutazione della vulnerabilità degli edifici storici al carico sismico.
Al fine di effettuare una corretta valutazione è importante che il carico sismico sia definito in modo adeguato. Nella
parte 1 sono descritti brevemente i principali obiettivi di PERPETUATE. La parte 2 illustra il quadro di riferimento
della sismicità storica utilizzato per la definizione del rischio sismico. Generalmente la pericolosità viene valutata in
termini di accelerogrammi strong motion. Nessuna nuova analisi viene presentata in questa parte del rapporto, che si
basa su una revisione della letteratura esistente. La parte 3 si occupa della progettazione dell’ input (sia originale e
LEMA-DES), e descrive le prove eseguite. In particolare il paragrafo 3.2 si occupa della validazione delle prove e
dell’interpretazione dei dati. La parte 4 discute i risultati ottenuti con particolare attenzione per quelle LEMA-DES.
L’appendice A (parte 6) mostra le storie temporali registrate per gli esperimenti. L’appendice B (parte 7) le FAS corrispondenti.This report is presenting results of shake table tests performed on the frame of the European project PERPETUATE.
The focus of PERPETUATE is the evaluation of the vulnerability of historical buildings to earthquake loading. In order
to undertake an accurate evaluation it is important that the earthquake loading be defined in an appropriate manner. In
section 1 main goals of PERPETUTE are briefly described. Section 2 discusses the hazard framework used for
historical assets, including a brief overview of time-dependent hazard assessment. Generally hazard is assessed in
terms of strong-motion. No new analysis is presented in this section, which is based on a review of existing literature.
Section 3 is dealing with the design of shaking-table input (both original and LEMA-DES), describing the performed
tests and giving a list of them. In particular Section 3.2 is dealing with the validation of Shake-Table tests and data
interpretation. Section 4 is discussing the obtained results specially for LEMA-DES time-histories. Appendix A (section
6) shows the recorded time-histories for performed tests. Appendix B (section 7) the FAS of recorded time-histories
