This project was a collaboration between the Faculty of Dentistry of Araraquara-UNESP (FOAr) and the Technical Nursing Course (ETEC). The objective was to offer theoretical and practical instruction to students in the Technical Nursing Course on preventing oral diseases, with emphasis on oral hygiene, through the use of interprofessional education and active teaching methods. In the teaching-learning scenarios, the Constructivist Spiral served as the theoretical and methodological underpinning of the problematizing methodology. The topics covered were caries, periodontal disease, coating, nosocomial pneumonia, xerostomia, general and ICU oral health and hygiene, and questionnaires were administered after the classes to qualitatively and quantitatively assess the students' understanding of the topics. The results obtained with the project were very satisfactory, considering that despite the difficulties encountered throughout its implementation, the majority of students were able to correctly cite and describe the clinical characteristics, symptoms, etiology and prevention of the diseases that were addressed in the classes, 79.92% agreed that one of the main reasons for nosocomial pneumonia being so recurrent in ICUs is incorrect oral hygiene. Finally, 95.6% reported having enjoyed the experience of participating in the project and the knowledge acquired through this project. The project purportedly enhanced the teaching-learning process experience through pioneering methodologies that supplement the instruction of nursing technician students to provide interprofessional and more humane and quality oral healthcare

Interdisciplinarity represents a relatively new pedagogical practice in the Dentistry curricula and, for its development, there is a need for the adoption of strategies capable of giving this practice (Souza et. al). In this context, in 2017, a new curricular structurewas implemented in the Undergraduate Course of a Public University and one of the innovation proposals is the interdisciplinarity between two collective health disciplines, one offered in the 1st year of the course and the other in the 5th year. In this context, there is a student-student mentoring partnership in clinical activities. This study aims to analyze the perception of 1st and 5th year dental students about the interdisciplinaryactivity performed between Collective Health disciplines. The instrument used to collect the data was a questionnaire, made available and answered online (google forms) for the students taking the subjects in question during the established period. Each student received a link in their institutional e-mail to access the questionnaire, which contained 5 questions about the interdisciplinary activity. Fifty-two first-year students and 39 fifth-year students from the FOAr/UNESP undergraduate course tookpart in this project, aged between 18 and 29, the majority, 73.6%, female and 26.4% male. The data was analyzed through Content Analysis, using the thematic categoricalanalysis technique described by Bardin. Regarding the answers to the first three questions for the fifth graders, the most cited answers were: knowledge, experience, learning and teamwork. The most frequently cited answers to the other questions were:lack of knowledge, lack of interest, lack of understanding of how the clinic works and lack of biosafety knowledge. As for the first-year students' answers to the first three questions, the most frequently cited answers were: knowledge, experience, learning, contact with patients, teamwork and clinical experience. And the most cited answers to the other questions were: Feeling lost, fear, insecurity, increasing practical activitiesand decreasing theoretical activities. It was concluded that the participation of studentsfrom the 1st and 5th years of the undergraduate course, enrolled in the Collective Health Disciplines, provided interdisciplinarity within the clinical dental environment, positively highlighting the importance of this activity for the training of the participating students in academic and professional development. Some suggestions for improvement offered by the students make us reflect on the continuous search for improvement

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

The importance of Hospital Dentistry and multiprofessional work during the Covid-19 pandemic: literature review

    No full text
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Hospital Dentistry played a crucial role in preventing and treating oral complications in hospitalized patients, especially those in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). The impact of the pandemic was significantly felt in dental care, highlighting the importance of the dentist's role as an integral part of multidisciplinary teams, particularly in preventing severe infections such as Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP). This literature review was conducted integratively, aiming to discuss the relevance of Hospital Dentistry in the context of the pandemic and the collaboration between different health areas. Studies from the last five years were selected from databases such as PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar, using descriptors related to "Hospital Dentistry," "multidisciplinary team," "Covid-19," and "ventilator-associated pneumonia." The literature revealed that the pandemic brought significant challenges to healthcare, increasing the complexity of interventions and reinforcing the need for an interprofessional approach. Furthermore, it was observed that the presence of dentists in the hospital setting contributed to the reduction of systemic complications, shorter hospital stays, and lower hospital costs. The pandemic context highlighted the need to further integrate dentistry into hospital practices, promoting a more comprehensive and patient-centered approach, and underscoring the importance of health policies that ensure access to specialized dental care in times of crisis
