Determination of Anisotropic Crystal Optical Properties Using Mueller Matrix Spectroscopic Ellipsometry
AbstractIn this paper the Mueller matrix ellipsometry in the spectral range from 0.73 to 6.4eV measured using dual rotating compensator ellipsometer RC2 (Woollam company) is applied to study anisotropic crystals. First we summarize the effects of optical anisotropy to Mueller matrix spectra. As an example of an uniaxial sample we have characterized a Rutile (TiO2) tetragonal crystal. The optical axis of the sample is parallel to its surface. The sample is characterized at variable angle of incidence and variable azimuthal rotation angle. The Mueller matrix spectra are fitted to the model based on Kramers-Kronig consistent Basis spline and obtained optical functions are compared with tabulated data and ab-initio models based on first-principle calculated electronic structure
Analysis and Modeling of Depolarization Effects in Mueller Matrix Spectroscopic Ellipsometry Data
AbstractIn this paper we present importance of depolarization effects modeling to fit spectroscopic Mueller matrix ellipsometry data. The relevant theoretical background based on Mueller matrix formalism is presented. The sample of SiO2 layer (approx. 1μm thick) on silicon substrate is used to demonstrate depolarization effects in obtained experimental data. In the first step the presence of interferences in the layer is used for modeling of depolarization effects caused by finite spectral resolution of the Mueller matrix ellipsometer. In the next step the depolarization caused by focusing of the probe light is analyzed and modeled. Both finite spectral resolution and beam focusing is a common issue in the optical characterization of samples with lateral dimensions smaller than (commonly used) collimated beam. Therefore to fit experimental data with model it is important to assume those depolarization effect into model

Directing our scholarly gaze away from the much studied novels, the essays explore the rhetorical strategies and generic inventiveness on display in Defoe’s better known non-fictional texts, such as The Shortest Way with the Dissenters and A Tour through the Whole Island of Great Britain, and some of his lesser known publications, such as his Complete English Tradesman and An Essay on the History and Reality of Apparitions. What emerges from the collection is the picture of an author who responded to early eighteenth-century debates and events with outstanding authorial skill and energy, and to whom matters of form and style were of great importance
Influence of temperature and sliding speed on the subsurface microstructure evolution of EN AW-6060 under sticking friction conditions

Sticking friction tests at different temperatures and sliding speeds were carried out. A severe deformation below the friction surface was observed by means of LOM and EBSD mapping. Thus, the thickness variation and the grain structure of the high deformation zone could be described. Fibrous structure was observed at 300 °C and 400 °C, while equiaxed grains with high misorientation angle (>15°) were generated at higher temperatures. Additionally, abnormal grain growth and coarse grains were detected at high sliding speeds (10 mm/s, 42 mm/s) at 450°C and 500 °C respectively
Non-Zero/Non-Zero Alternations in Differential Object Marking
This paper proposes an analysis of alternations between two or more overt markers in differential object marking, which we claim to follow from impoverishment. Impoverishment in turn is conditioned and constrained by constraint interaction. The constraint ranking is not arbitrary but the result of harmonic alignment of markedness scales and local conjunction. Restrictions on impoverishment are then derived as restrictions on constraint orderings.
The proposal is founded on the empirical observation that differential object marking is not restricted to zero/non-zero alternations but may also exist between two or more overt markers. Real Estate Rental Growth Rates at Different Points in the Physical Market Cycle
Real estate markets go through both physical cycles (demand and supply) that affect rental growth rates and financial cycles (capital flows to real estate) that affect property Prices (Mueller, 1995). This study develops a rental growth rate hypothesis based on a market’s position in the physical (demand-supply) market cycle. Using data from fifty-four office and industrial markets in the United States over a thirty-year period, an aggregated national average rental growth rate was calculated for each point in the cycle. An ANOVA test for differences of means found that the national average rental growth rates at each point in the cycle were statistically different. The results show local demand and supply, which interact to affect occupancy, are major determinants in rental growth rates. This research should help investors move from using a single rental growth rate for multiple year forecasts, to using yearly cycle driven rental growth rate estimates in their discounted cash flow projections.
Modification of the anisotropy and strength differential effect of extruded AZ31 by extrusion-shear

This article appeared in AIP Conference Proceedings 1960, 030008 (2018) and may be found at https://doi.org/10.1063/1.5034851.The extrusion of magnesium alloys results in a pronounced fiber texture in which the basal planes are mostly oriented parallel and the c-axes are oriented perpendicular to the extrusion direction. Due to this texture the Strength Differential Effect (SDE), which describes the strength difference between tensile and compression yield strength, and the elastic anisotropy in the sheet plane are obtained during extrusion. The objective of the investigation was to decrease the SDE and anisotropy through specifically influencing the microstructure and texture. To accomplish this objective, the forming processes extrusion (EX) and equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) were combined and integrated into one extrusion die. This combination is called extrusion-shear (ES). With an ES-die, billets of the magnesium alloy AZ31B were formed into a sheet with the thickness of 4 mm and the width of 70 mm. The angles of the used ECAP-applications in the ES-dies were set to 90° and 135°. The results show that the extrusion-shear process is able to decrease the anisotropy and SDE through transformation of the texture compared to conventional extrusion process. Also grain refinement could be observed. However, the outcomes seem to be very sensitive to the process parameters. Only by using the ES-die with an angle of 135° the desired effect could be accomplished
Study of dijet events with large rapidity separation in proton-proton collisions at √s = 2.76 TeV
© 2022, The Author(s).The cross sections for inclusive and Mueller-Navelet dijet production are measured as a function of the rapidity separation between the jets in proton-proton collisions at s = 2.76 TeV for jets with transverse momentum pT> 35 GeV and rapidity |y| 20 GeV is introduced to improve the sensitivity to the effects of the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) evolution. The measurement is compared with the predictions of various Monte Carlo models based on leading-order and next-to-leading-order calculations including the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi leading-logarithm (LL) parton shower as well as the LL BFKL resummation. Mueller-matrix modeling of the architecture in the cuticle of the beetle Chrysina resplendens
Circular Bragg reflectors have the ability of reflecting the cohanded circular-polarization mode of the inherent helicoidal structures. Cuticles of some plants and beetles are examples of natural circular Bragg reflectors. In many cases, the period or pitch of the helicoidal structure shows spatial variation across the cuticle (pitch profile). Among scarab beetles, the special architecture in the cuticle of the Chrysina resplendens comprising a birefringent layer sandwiched between two helicoidal layers reflects both right- and left-handed circular-polarization states. In this work, the modeling of Mueller-matrix data is applied to investigate polarization properties of this exceptional structure by using pitch profile and optical functions reported in the literature. Reflectance spectra for circular-polarization states are explained in terms of the phase shift introduced by the birefringent layer in a phasor plot. The azimuth-dependent polarization properties are investigated at oblique incidence for unpolarized light. (c) 2019 Author(s).
