Testis-Sparing Surgery in Children. Ten-Year Experience
Full text linkSummary: The aim of the study was to retrospectively evaluate our series of Testis
Sparing Surgery (TSS) relating to the last 10 years and to discuss the feasibility, safety,
and outcome of this treatment modality.
Patients and Methods: we here present a series of 10 pediatric patients ranging from
9 to 15 years (mean age 11.9yrs) referred to our Institution for mono lateral testicular
lesion accidentally detected at US or for indefinite testicular pain and submitted to TSS.
The lesions measured from 6 to 20mm (mean 13.1 mm). Histological diagnosis showed
2 residues of adrenocortical tissue,1 epidermoid cyst,3 Large cell calcifying Sertoli cell
tumor, 2 Leydig cell tumors; 1 Leydig cell hypertrophia; 1 gonadoblastoma. Surgery
was performed through an inguinal approach by cold ischemia and with organ-sparing
surgery.
Results: Neither of the patients exhibited intraoperative or postoperative complications. After a mean follow-p of 6.7 years the patients were free of disease.
Conclusion: Testis-sparing surgery by cold ischemia and frozen-section examination
is advisable for pediatric patients with benign testicular masses

No full textCarcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma is not common among malignant salivary tumors and an accessory lobe of parotid gland tumor with a carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma histology is even rarer. Management of these tumors include a high index of suspicion, good understanding of the anatomy and a meticulous surgical access. No full textPrimary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoma (PC-MZL) is a B-cell lymphoma arising in the skin. Although it is a rare disease, PC-MZL accounts for 20-40% of all primary cutaneous B-cell lymphoma in Western Countries. The aetiology and the pathogenesis of PC-MZL are poorly understood, as it generally lacks the chromosomal translocations most typically present in marginal zone lymphomas of other sites. The diagnosis of PC-MZL may be challenging, due to the rarity of the disease, and needs the competence of different professional figures, including the dermatologist and the pathologist. Furthermore, the management of the patient after the diagnosis is complex and involves the dermatologist, the haematologist, the surgeon, the radiotherapist and the radiologist. The aim of this review is to describe the clinical and histological findings for the diagnosis of PC-MZL, and the state of art for the management of the patient

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
