Cybercities: a new way of thinking about the Town Planning of the Future. The case of Naples
The cable network is innervating an increasing number of italian cities in order to perform new multimedial facilities and to lift up their international competitiveness as well. Naples represent a very interesting case of troubled city which entrusts to optic fibers also its urban re-launch.
It is necessary to envisage how the scenario of the urban system will be in the future. By the adoption of a systemic approach it is possible to define an interpretative model of the city since that seems to offer the best opportunity for envisaging the interrelations between different elements of the system.
According to this approach, the paper tries to answer to the following questions : how will be the physical system alteration due to the cable network arrangement ? how will be the functional system alteration and the change of the perspective one ? the cable network can be considered just like another urban infrastructure (such as water network, electricity network, etc.) ?
With regards to the last question the paper intends to warn the town planners to consider a cable network not at all like an urban infrastructure. The Cybercity is reasing. It is important to envisage from now new way to manage its development.Fistola Romano, La Rocca Rosa Anna.
Climate Solutions Based on Cultural Heritage Development: The Case Study of Traditional Geometric Patterns of Mashrabiya Screens
Climate change continues escalating worldwide, and people struggle with adverse weather conditions. This change necessitates developing strategies for suitable microclimates, harnessing natural energy and utilising local materials. The impact of climate change has yet to be defined, but it is evident that low-income communities often bear the brunt of global warming's effects. Studying vernacular architecture allows for understanding early forms of resilience that can evolve for innovative climate adaptation. Hassan Fathy's work shows how tradition evolves while maintaining and enhancing its identity. Crafts fall under these traditions, showing another form of this adaptation carrying aesthetic, functional, and social significance. Cultural heritage is an early stratification representing the evolution of tangible and intangible traditions over time. Its perseverance depends on the capacity to evolve in contemporary rituals and new social conventions. Cultural heritage is essential in this research while maintaining an identity as a key growth factor. These crafts facilitate working avenues and aid the economy. Exploration of vernacular architecture through literature review and some exhibitions shows cultural heritage's proactive role in adapting to climate change, circular economy, inclusion, and sustainability development of urban contexts. In particular, the contribution explores the (مشربية) ‘Mashrabiya’ craft, a traditional element rooted in the architecture of the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Europe. This architectural element provides a means for exploring this intersection between heritage and contemporary design. Maintaining local memory means maintaining identity and tradition and, therefore, the heritage of practices and techniques that constitute the "know-how" of each territory and community. Sustainable development and the protection of cities must instead stimulate discussion, cooperation and interdisciplinary exchange between researchers, urban planners, designers and artisans to innovate tradition and increase resilience in continuity with the cultural roots of the territories. The document also highlights the importance of the role and commitment of artisans in this new approach aimed at recovering and innovating traditional climate adaptation methods. Cities’ development and protection with innovation, the aim is to stimulate discussion, cooperation, and interdisciplinary interchange among researchers, planners, designers, and craftspeople
Standard versus trans-epithelial collagen cross-linking in keratoconus patients suitable for standard collagen cross-linking
S Rossi, A Orrico, C Santamaria, V Romano, L De Rosa, F Simonelli, G De RosaMultidisciplinary Department of Medical, Surgical and Dental Sciences, Eye Clinic, Second University of Naples, Naples, ItalyPurpose: Evaluating the clinical results of trans-epithelial collagen cross-linking (CXL) and standard CXL in patients with progressive keratoconus. Methods: This prospective study comprised 20 eyes of 20 patients with progressive keratoconus. Ten eyes were treated by standard CXL and ten by trans-epithelial cross-linking (TE-CXL, epithelium on) with 1 year of follow-up. All patients underwent complete ophthalmologic testing that included pre- and postoperative uncorrected visual acuity, corrected visual acuity, spherical error, spherical equivalent, corneal astigmatism, simulated maximum, minimum, and average keratometry, coma and spherical aberration, optical pachymetry, and endothelial cell density. Intra- and postoperative complications were recorded. The solution used for standard CXL comprised riboflavin 0.1% and dextran 20.0% (Ricrolin), while the solution for TE-CXL (Ricrolin, TE) comprised riboflavin 0.1%, dextran 15.0%, trometamol (Tris), and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. Ultraviolet-A treatment was performed with UV-X System at 3 mW/cm2.Results: In both the standard CXL group (ten patients, ten eyes; mean age, 30.4±7.3 years) and the TE-CXL group (ten patients, ten eyes; mean age, 28±3.8 years), uncorrected visual acuity and corrected visual acuity improved significantly after treatment. Furthermore, a significant improvement in topographic outcomes, spherical error, and spherical equivalent was observed in both groups at month 12 posttreatment. No significant variations were recorded in other parameters. No complications were noted. Conclusion: A 1-year follow-up showed stability of clinical and refractive outcomes after standard CXL and TE-CXL.Keywords: corneal disease, corneal thickness, keratoconus, refractive outcomes, surgical techniqu
The construct of generativity for the quality of teaching
Within hyper-technologized and algocratic societies, the current anthropological changes pose new challenges for education and teaching. Training systems today must integrate technological skills with a generative vision, which contrasts the logic of the individualistic and narcissistic model advocated in postmodern contexts. The generative construct, in fact, allows us to recognize interdependence as a constitutive factor of our relational and educationally fruitful being. Only if teachers make their own the generative capacity in an existential sense will they be able to become educators and coherent witnesses, able to form aware, critical and creative children and young people, capable of facing the important challenges of the contemporary world
In an attempt to establish an outline of the authors who were critical of Legal Modernity, our text takes the concept of institution in Santi Romano, in order to establish a dialogue between the Italian jurist and schools and other authors who also care about the questioning of the form that Law is designed in the late eighteenth century. Then, through the deductive method of approach and using the research literature, were chosen some central features of the works of Romano: (a) anti-normativism; (b) anti-individualism; (c) the Law as being objective, thereby reflecting the social organization, unrelated to the state. From them, our exposition follows in an attempt to see if and how these aspects are present in the heart of the 'Historical School' in the Philosophy of Law - in particular, Savigny - and also within the Positivist School, especially French and sociological - highlighting here the thought of Durkheim, Duguit, and Hauriou. Following the investigation, our work details the decisionist thought of Carl Schmitt, as well as the views of Paolo Grossi, historian of Law. All this as a way of engendering a core of theoretical positions defended by the authors who, despite the glaring contradictions between them, can be assembled in the same group of perspectives that challenges the legal paradigm introduced by Modernity
SUSTAINABLE FASHION ADVERTISING OF SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES: EVIDENCE FROM MADE IN ITALY COMPANIES
Fashion companies are increasingly promoting their sustainable practices and products. Despite this trend, scholarly investigations into sustainable fashion advertising remain sparse, focusing predominantly on multinational corporations. This study aims to fill this gap by delving into the sustainable fashion advertising strategies employed by Italian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the context of luxury and premium sustainable fashion and ‘Made in Italy’ products. The research adopts the signaling theory perspective, conducting an exploratory qualitative analysis of Italian SMEs specializing in sustainable luxury or premium fashion goods to achieve the research goals. A multi-case analysis is conducted to contribute to theoretical understanding. By advancing knowledge in sustainable fashion advertising and signaling theory, this research provides valuable insights for optimizing advertising campaigns practically. The findings aim to offer actionable suggestions to policymakers for fortifying these advertising efforts
Rapporto uomo-natura in Romano Guardini
