Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textIn opdracht van Royal HaskoningDHV heeft RAAP in januari 2020 een archeologisch vooronderzoek in de vorm van een bureauonderzoek uitgevoerd voor het plangebied Chemelot-Beekerveld plots 53, 55 en 56 te Geleen in de gemeente Sittard-Geleen. Het onderzoek vond plaats in het kader van een omgevingsvergunning en het bouwrijp maken van de percelen.
Uit het bureauonderzoek blijkt dat er binnen en in de directe omgeving nog vrijwel geen archeologische vindplaatsen bekend zijn. Tegelijkertijd blijkt dat er binnen grote delen van het plangebied nooit bebouwing heeft gestaan en dat het gebied eigenlijk vanaf in ieder geval de middeleeuwen is gekarakteriseerd door heide en later is gebruikt voor akkerbouw. Plot 53 en de noordwestelijke helft van plot 55 worden echter vanaf het einde van de jaren ’70 tot 2013 bebouwd. Het gaat om de gebouwen en voorzieningen van de ABS-fabriek die in 1974 zijn gebouwd en in 2013 zijn gesloopt. De mate waarin deze gebouwen de ondergrond hebben verstoord is vooralsnog onduidelijk. Op basis van foto’s van de sloop in 2013 lijken de verstoringen een beperkte diepte te hebben. Dit vermoeden wordt nog versterkt door de milieukundige boringen die een goeddeels gaaf bodemprofiel lijken te tonen. De verwachting is dan ook dat eventuele archeologische resten niet of nauwelijks zijn verstoord door de bouw en sloop van de fabriek.
Op basis van de archeologische gegevens en de aanvullende gegevens uit het milieukundig onderzoek wordt gesteld dat het bodemprofiel naar alle verwachting nog grotendeels gaaf is en dat ook archeologische resten goed bewaard aanwezig kunnen zijn. Meer specifiek geldt voor het plangebied een hoge verwachting voor nederzettingssporen en begravingen uit het vroeg-neolithicum en de ijzertijd en een middelhoge verwachting voor vergelijkbare sporen uit de bronstijd, Romeinse tijd t/m volle middeleeuwen. Wegens de specifieke historische ontwikkeling van de Graetheide geldt voor het plangebied een lage verwachting voor vindplaatsen uit de (late) middeleeuwen en nieuwe tijd. Wel kan op basis van historische kaarten worden vastgesteld dat er door plot 55 een historische weg loopt.
Advies Op basis van de resultaten van het onderzoek blijkt dat in het gehele plangebied (mogelijk) archeologische resten bedreigd worden door toekomstige bodemingrepen. Daarom wordt geadviseerd om de plannen zodanig aan te passen dat verstoring wordt voorkomen. Dat kan door bijvoorbeeld ‘archeologievriendelijk’ te bouwen, waarbij op palen of poeren wordt gefundeerd. Hierdoor is de verstoringsomvang beperkt. Hierbij dient wel in acht genomen te worden dat indien er tevens afgravingen plaatsvinden er ten alle tijden een buffer van tenminste 30 cm t.o.v. het archeologisch niveau moet worden aangehouden. Indien planaanpassing niet mogelijk is, wordt aanbevolen in het kader van de bestaande planvorming de onderstaande vervolgstap uit het proces van de Archeologische Monumentenzorg (AMZ) te nemen.
Om de gespecificeerde verwachting aan te vullen en te verfijnen wordt normaal gesproken een vervolgonderzoek geadviseerd in de vorm van een inventariserend veldonderzoek door middel van een verkennend booronderzoek. Echter, gezien het feit dat, (1) grote delen van het plangebied OCE verdacht is, (2) de aan het oppervlak liggende puinpakketten vrijwel ondoordringbaar zijn met een handboor, en (3) er sterke aanwijzingen zijn dat sprake is van een gaaf bodemprofiel, kan er om praktische redenen voor gekozen worden direct door te starten naar een proefsleuvenonderzoek. Indien voor deze optie wordt gekozen, wordt aangeraden om het Programma van Eisen zodanig op te stellen dat een aantal proefsleuvenstrategieën op maat kunnen worden uitgevoerd met als doel om een zo goed mogelijk balans te creëren tussen de belangen van de opdrachtgever (financiën en tijd) en de archeologische belangen (maximale kenniswinst)

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
