Rating behavioral problems in adolescent eating disorders: Parent-child differences
The primary objective of this study was to investigate the discrepancies among the perception of behavioral problems self-reported by adolescent patients with restrictive eating disorders (REDs) and rated by their mothers and fathers. Forty-eight female adolescents with RED filled in the Youth Self-Report, their mothers and fathers separately completed the Child Behavior Check List. Patients reported lower scores for somatic complaints, thought problems, and rule-breaking behaviors compared to their mothers and fathers. These findings may inform clinical consultation and treatment
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Effectiveness of short-term psychodynamic psychotherapy in preadolescents and adolescents affected by psychiatric disorders
Objective Few studies have explored the effectiveness of short-term psychodynamic psychotherapy in children and adolescents. We aimed to investigate its efficacy in a heterogeneous group of young patients. We also wanted to check any relation between the improvement and patients’ age, sex, or diagnostic category. Methods We recruited a group of 123 patients (11 to 19 years old) with a diagnosis of psychiatric disorders confirmed by Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia (KSADS). All participants received eight sessions of psychodynamic psychotherapy (“Brief Individuation Psychotherapy” by Senise). They were assessed using the Clinical Global Impression (Severity at baseline, Improvement after treatment), and the Children’s Global Assessment Scale (C-GAS). Results We found a clinically meaningful improvement in most patients (CGI-I 3 or lower; 79 out of 123, 64.2%) and a statistically significant improvement in the overall functioning (as measured by the C-GAS; p<0.001). We found no effect of age or sex of the patient on results obtained; patients with an externalizing disorder had significantly poorer results. Conclusion Our study, although lacking a control group, supports the possibility to use short-term psychodynamic psychotherapy in the treatment of psychiatric disorders in preadolescents and adolescents affected by psychiatric disorders. COVID-19-related psychiatric impact on Italian adolescent population: A cross-sectional cohort study
We investigated the prevalence rate and sociodemographic correlates of COVID-19-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and COVID-19-related acute stress disorder (ASD) among Italian adolescents, their level of stress, perception of parental stress, and connection with mental health. Adolescents aged 12–18 years compiled an online questionnaire designed through validated diagnostic instruments. We enrolled 1262 adolescents who declared that they had not experienced any previous traumatic events. Participants were divided into two groups: 118 adolescents with psychiatric problems (APP+) and 1144 without (APP−). In total, 79.52% reported isolated COVID-19-related ASD (29.48%) or PTSD symptoms (50.04%). One adolescent met the diagnosis of COVID-19-related ASD and two met the diagnosis of COVID-19-related PTSD, according to DSM-5. Adolescents with subthreshold COVID-19-related ASD and PTSD symptoms referred the highest levels of personal stress and adolescents with psychiatric/psychological conditions experienced higher stress. Health measures should be urgently employed prioritizing psychosocial stressors among adolescent population
Behavioral problems in psychotic, clinically high-risk, and non-psychotic adolescent patients
Background: A growing body of research provides evidence for social and behavioral problems observed among adolescents with psychosis and also as precursors of vulnerability to psychosis, long before the illness onset, especially in females patients. As such, the main aim of the current study was to investigate from a patient perspective the presence of differences in the behavioral problems self-disclosed by psychotic, clinically high-risk, and non-psychotic adolescents. Moreover, since adolescent girls may present higher risk of internalizing problems, we explored the additional role of sex in interaction with psychotic risk or clinical condition in altering the self-disclosed severity of behavioral problems among the three groups of adolescents. Methods: One-hundred and fifty-eight adolescent patients were interviewed by a trained child neuropsychiatrist applying the Comprehensive Assessment of At Risk Mental States in order to identify a quantitative index of risk for full-blown and attenuated psychosis. All patients self-reported on their behavioral problems filing in the well-validated Italian version of the Youth Self-Report, which quantifies internalizing, externalizing, and total behavioral problems. Results: Regarding Youth Self-Report’s scores, non-psychotic adolescents had reported lower total and internalizing scores compared to clinically high-risk and psychotic counterparts. Additionally, in our sample a significant group × sex interaction effect emerged for total and internalizing scores: females reported greater risk of total and internalizing behavioral problems, only in the clinically high-risk group. Conclusions: Higher variability should be expected in the behavioral profile of high-risk adolescents in comparison to psychotic ones. Elevations of internalizing behavioral symptoms, thus, might be considered as a much more relevant risk factor in girls during adolescence

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
