Microclimatic characterization in conilon coffee plantations in different alignments: north-south and east-west
Coffee is one of the most important agricultural commodities in the global market,
because it is a drink consumed by at least half the world's population. However, this
significant economic contribution made by coffee production may be affected if
problems arising from global climate change are not studied. In this context, the first
chapter "Microclimatic characterization of conilon coffee cultivated in the north-south
alignment" aims to evaluate the climatic variables in order to quantify them and to
point out possible effects on a north-south aligned crop. The experiment was carried
out in four dates from December 2016 to September 2017. The variables irradiance,
air temperature and vapor pressure deficit were quantified on the side of the plant
facing east and west. Thermal images were obtained using an infrared camera to
determine the coffee. There was no significant difference between the two sides for
the evaluated factors that characterize the plant growth. The west side of the plant
had higher values of irradiance, temperature and vapor pressure deficit in the
afternoon, reaching an average difference of 5°C between the two sides at
approximately 16 hours. Leaf temperature had similar behavior to air temperature,
reaching an average difference of approximately 12°C between the two sides at 14
and 16 hours. The second chapter aimed to evaluate the influence of the east-west
plantation alignment on the microclimatic aspects and plant growth in order to
quantify the variables and to point out their possible effects on the coffee crop. Data
collection was carried out in a full-fledged conilon coffee crop (Coffea canephora) at
2 years and 6 months of age at the beginning of the experiment, with a spacing of
3,0m x 1,0m, with a height of approximately 1,6 m. The experiment was carried out in
four dates from December 2016 to September 2017. The variables irradiance, air
temperature and vapor pressure deficit were quantified on the plant side facing north
and south by means of external data loggers. Thermal images were obtained using
an infrared camera to determine the coffee leaf temperature on both sides of the
plant. The growth of the plant and leaf concentration on the sides of the plant facing

north and south were evaluated. The northern side of the plant presented higher
values of irradiance, temperature and vapor pressure deficit, reaching a difference of
4 °C between the two sides. The leaf temperature had a similar behavior to the air
temperature, reaching a difference of approximately 11 °C between the two sides at
noon. There was no significant difference between the two sides for the evaluated

microclimática do cafeeiro conilon cultivado no alinhamento norte-sul” visa avaliar as

lavoura orientada no alinhamento norte-sul. O experimento foi realizado em quatro
datas no período de dezembro de 2016 a setembro de 2017. Foram quantificadas as
variáveis irradiância, temperatura do ar e déficit de pressão de vapor no lado da
planta voltado para o leste e para o oeste. Foram obtidas imagens térmicas
utilizando uma câmera infravermelha para determinar a temperatura foliar do
cafeeiro nos dois lados da planta e foram realizadas avaliações de crescimento da
planta e concentração foliar. Não houve diferença significativa entre os dois lados
para os fatores que caracterizam o crescimento da planta. O lado oeste da planta
apresentou maiores valores de irradiância, temperatura e déficit de pressão de vapor
no período da tarde, chegando a atingir uma diferença média de 5°C entre os dois
lados aproximadamente às 16 horas. A temperatura foliar teve resposta similar a
temperatura do ar, atingindo uma diferença média de aproximadamente 12°C entre
os dois lados às 14 e 16 horas. O segundo capítulo teve como objetivo avaliar a
influência do alinhamento de plantio leste-oeste quanto os aspectos microclimáticos
e crescimento da planta a fim de quantificar as variáveis e apontar seus possíveis
efeitos sobre o cafeeiro. A coleta de dados foi realizada em uma lavoura de café
conilon (Coffea canephora) a pleno sol com 2 anos e 6 meses de idade no início do
experimento, com espaçamento de 3,0m x 1,0m, com uma altura aproximadamente
de 1,6 m. O experimento foi realizado em quatro datas no período de dezembro de
2016 a setembro de 2017. Foram quantificadas as variáveis irradiância, temperatura
do ar e déficit de pressão de vapor no lado da planta voltado para o norte e sul por

meio de registradores de dados externos. Foram obtidas imagens térmicas utilizando
uma câmera infravermelha para determinar a temperatura foliar do cafeeiro nos dois
lados da planta. Avaliou-se o crescimento da planta e concentração foliar nos lados
da planta voltado para o norte e para o sul. O lado norte da planta apresentou
maiores valores de irradiância, temperatura e déficit de pressão de vapor, chegando
a atingir uma diferença de 4°C entre os dois lados. A temperatura foliar teve
comportamento similar a temperatura do ar, atingindo uma diferença de
aproximadamente 11°C entre os dois lados ao meio dia. Não houve diferença
significativa entre os dois lados para os fatores avaliados que caracterizam o
crescimento da planta
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
