No full textShared Material on Dying is a trio/solo work commissioned by Jenny Roche and the Dublin Dance Festival in 2008 from choreographer Liz Roche. Touring widely since its creation, it continues to be a rich research environment for the interrogation by Jenny Roche of the dancer’s first-person perspective in choreographic production and performance. The research perspective drawn from the live performance of this iteration was how the exploration of the same dancing moment might be expressed from multiple perspectives by three different dancers and what this might reveal about the dancer’s inner configuring of the performance environment. Erin Manning (2009) describes the unstable and emergent moment before movement materialises as the preacceleration of the movement, when the potentialities of the gesture collapse and stabilize into form. It is this threshold of potentiality that is interesting, the moment before the dance happens when the configuring process of the dancer brings it into being. Cynthia Roses Thema (2007), after neuroscientist Antonio Damasio, writes that embodied experience is mapped as it unfolds and alters from moment to moment in line with a constantly changing internal milieu. As a performer in this piece, I explored the inner terrain of the three performers (myself included) by externalizing these inner states. This research contributed to a paper presentation at the Digital Resources for the Arts and Humanities Conference, UK 2013
Returning to clarity and principle: the Privy Council on Stack v Dowden
No full textIn Marr v Collie (Bahamas) [2017] UKPC 17, a Board of the Privy Council comprising Lord Neuberger, Lady Hale, and Lords Kerr, Wilson, and Sumption has interpreted Stack v Dowden [2007] UKHL 17; [2007] 2 A.C. 432 in a way that many may find surprising. However, on close examination Marr is a clear and correct interpretation of Stack, dispelling misunderstandings by returning to its ratio.</jats:p
QTrim : a novel tool for the quality trimming of sequence reads generated using the Roche/454 sequencing platform

Many high throughput sequencing (HTS) approaches, such as the Roche/454 platform, produce sequences in which the quality of the sequence (as measured by a Phred-like quality scores) decreases linearly across a sequence read. Undertaking quality trimming of this data is essential to enable confidence in the results of subsequent downstream analysis. Here, we have developed a novel, highly sensitive and accurate approach (QTrim) for the quality trimming of sequence reads generated using the Roche/454 sequencing platform (or any platform with long reads that outputs Phred-like quality scores).
Results
The performance of QTrim was evaluated against all other available quality trimming approaches on both poor and high quality 454 sequence data. In all cases, QTrim appears to perform equally as well as the best other approach (PRINSEQ) with these two methods significantly outperforming all other methods. Further analysis of the trimmed data revealed that the novel trimming approach implemented in QTrim ensures that the prevalence of low quality bases in the resulting trimmed data is substantially lower than PRINSEQ or any of the other approaches tested.
Conclusions
QTrim is a novel, highly sensitive and accurate algorithm for the quality trimming of Roche/454 sequence reads. It is implemented both as an executable program that can be integrated with standalone sequence analysis pipelines and as a web-based application to enable individuals with little or no bioinformatics experience to quality trim their sequence data

No full textHlavním cílem bakalářské práce je stanovit a formulovat doporučení pro společnost Roche s.r.o. Doporučení je stanoveno na základě strategické analýzy. Bakalářská práce je členěna do dvou částí, kterými jsou teoretická a praktická část. Teoretická část vysvětluje použité dílčí analýzy v rámci praktické části. Praktická část následně aplikuje metody z teoretické části na aktuální situaci zmíněné společnosti. Strategická analýza je složena ze dvou větších uskupení, kterými jsou analýza okolí a analýza vnitřních zdrojů a schopností společnosti. Analýza okolí je dále tvořena PESTEL analýzou, základní charakteristikou odvětví, analýzou konkurence, mapou konkurenčních skupin, Porterovým modelem a analýzou zájmových skupin. Analýza vnitřních zdrojů a schopností je tvořena analýzou zdrojů, finanční analýzou a analýzou portfolia. Práce je dále shrnuta prostřednictvím SWOT analýzy a analýzy rizik. V samotném závěru jsou formulována výsledná doporučení pro společnost.The main objective of the bachelor thesis is to determine and formulate recommendations for Roche s.r.o. The recommendations is determined on the basis of a strategic analysis. The bachelor thesis is divided into two parts, which are the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part explains the sub-analyses used in the practical part. The practical part then applies the methods from the theoretical part to the actual situation of the mentioned company. The strategic analysis itself is composed of two major clusters, which are the analysis of the environment and the analysis of the company’s internal resources and capabilities. The analysis of the environment is further comprised of PESTEL Framework, basic industry characteristics, competitor analysis, competitor map, Porter’s model and stakeholders analysis. The analysis of internal resources and capabilities consists of resource analysis, financial analysis and portfolio analysis. The thesis is further summarized through SWOT analysis and risk analysis. At the very end, the final recommendations for the company are formulated

No full textHlavním tématem této práce je marketingová komunikace a ukázka její praktické aplikace francouzskou kosmetickou společností L´Oréal. Konkrétně se práce zaměřuje na výrobek z řady proti akné La Roche Posay. V teoretické části jsou definovány základní pojmy, které se týkají obsahu tématu, dále následuje stručné představení samotné firmy a jejich produktů, na základě rešerše je stručně charakterizován způsob marketingové komunikace u kosmetických firem všeobecně. Praktická část se věnuje analýze marketingové komunikace výrobku proti akné La Roche Posay, a to na základě dotazníkového šetření v rámci kvantitativního výzkumu, který s sebou přináší výsledky komunikační strategie marketingových aktivit ve společnosti L´Oréal. Dotazník je sestaven tak, aby zjistil nejrozšířenější způsoby komunikace mezi firmami a zákazníkem, na základě těchto zjištění pak byla navržena další doporučení. Svým rozsahem a významem se jedná o jeden ze základních stavebních kamenů všech komunikačních kampaní. Závěrečná část práce analyzuje zjištěné výsledky z dotazníkového šetření s cílem navrhnout opatření na zlepšení či zvýšení kvality marketingové komunikace u výrobku proti akné La Roche Posay, a to se zaměřením na sociální média.The main topic of this work is marketing communication and its demonstration of practical application by the French cosmetic company L´Oréal. Specifically, the work focuses on the La Roche Posay anti-acne product. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts that relate to the content of the topic, then a brief introduction of the company itself and their products, based on the research is briefly characterized the method of marketing communication common in cosmetic companies in general. The practical part is devoted to the analysis of marketing communication of the product against acne La Roche Posay, based on a questionnaire survey in quantitative research, which brings with it the results of the communication strategy of marketing activities in the company L´Oréal. The way questionnaire is built helps to find out tools of communication between companies and their customers. Due to its scope and importance, it is one of the basic building blocks of all communication campaigns. The final part of the work analyses the results of the questionnaire survey in order to propose measures to improve or increase the quality of marketing communication for the product against acne La Roche Posay specialized in social media

The Unintended Consequences of Stanford v. Roche
No full textThis article analyzes the recent Supreme Court decision in Stanford v. Roche and concludes that the Court was correct in holding that the Bayh-Dole Act did not change the basic patent law norm that inventors hold initial title to their inventions; but, and more importantly, that the Court was wrong in finding for Roche because there cannot be an assignment of legal title to an invention until the invention is made, a patent application is filed or a patent is issued, and the inventor executes a written patent assignment that identifies the patent application number or patent number associated with the assignment. If the analysis supporting the latter conclusion is correct, tens of billions of dollars of patent rights could be at risk in the case of unethical employee-inventors, both in universities and the private sector. The article suggests management best practices to lessen this risk and law reform measures to eliminate this risk
