Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

No full textNos estudos hidrológicos e hidrogeológicos é cada vez mais comum a correlação das razões isotópicas de 18O e 2H nas águas superficiais, subterrâneas e precipitadas com foco em compreender a interação entre partes dos mecanismos do ciclo da água. Isso é possível por meio da comparação da assinatura isotópica das águas em busca de tendências que apontem para as influências de processos naturais de fracionamento isotópico. O objetivo principal é interpretar a relação dos mecanismos de recarga com os fenômenos climáticos. Neste sentido, o escopo de trabalho é a análise temporal da variação da composição isotópica da precipitação e das águas subterrâneas. Foi feito por meio da organização de dados de série histórica atualizada, para área de recarga do Domínio Hidrogeológico do Sistema Aquífero Bauru-Caiuá (SAB) no município de Araraquara - SP. Como resultado para as águas de chuva, destaca-se a reta meteórica local definida pela função δ2H = 8,022*δ18O +14,342, quase paralela à reta meteórica global. A média ponderada pela quantidade de chuva das razões isotópicas de δ18O (‰) VSMOW é igual a 5,48; de δ2H (‰) VSMOW é igual a -28,73; e a média aritmética do excesso de deutério é igual a 14,24. O piezograma do poço foi analisado visualmente e registra uma tendência de recessão até novembro de 2015, seguida de uma forte recarga que elevou o nível d’água para uma profundidade média de 10 m com ciclos anuais de recarga bem definidos. As razões isotópicas para as águas subterrâneas apresentam médias mais depletadas e com menor variabilidade, sendo a média aritmética de δ18O igual a -6,90; δ2H igual a -43,94; e excesso de deutério igual a 11,23. A sazonalidade do volume de precipitação é marcada pela concentração de chuvas no período de outubro a março, com a maior média histórica no mês de dezembro igual a 242 mm, e menor no mês de junho igual a 25 mm. A sazonalidade da composição isotópica das águas de chuvas é destacada pelas amostras das chuvas na estação chuvosa serem mais depletadas que as amostras coletadas na estação seca. Os resultados estão de acordo com o esperado com base na literatura recente sobre isótopos estáveis da água em áreas tropicais, de modo que este estudo contribui para a expansão do conhecimento neste tópico.In hydrological and hydrogeological studies, the correlation of isotopic ratios of 18O and 2H in the surface, groundwater and precipitated waters is increasingly common, with a focus on understanding the interaction between parts of the water cycle mechanisms. This is possible by comparing the isotopic signature of waters in search of trends that point to the influences of natural processes of isotopic fractionation. The main objective is to interpret the relationship between recharge mechanisms and climatic phenomena. In this sense, the scope of work is the temporal analysis of the variation of the isotopic composition of precipitation and groundwater. It was made through the organization of updated historical series data for the recharge area of the Hydrogeological Domain of the Bauru-Caiuá Aquifer System (SAB) in the municipality of Araraquara - SP. Because of rainwater analysis, the local meteorological line defined by the function δ2H = 8.022 * δ18O +14.342, almost parallel to the global meteorological line, stands out. The weighted average by the amount of rainfall of the δ18O (‰) VSMOW isotopic ratios is -5.48; of δ2H (‰) VSMOW is equal to -28.73; the arithmetic mean of excess deuterium is 14.24. The well's piezogram was visually analyzed and recorded a recession trend until November 2015, followed by a strong recharge that raised the water level to an average depth of 10 m with well-defined annual recharge cycles. The isotopic ratios for groundwater present more depleted averages and with less variability, with the arithmetic average of δ18O equal to -6.90; δ2H equal to -43.94; and deuterium excess equal to 11.23. The seasonality of rainfall volume is marked by rainfall concentration from October to March, with the highest historical average in December equal to 242 mm, and the lowest in June equal to 25 mm. The seasonality of the isotopic composition of rainwater is highlighted by the fact that rainfall in the rainy season is more depleted than in the dry season. The results are as expected based on recent literature on stable isotopes of water in tropical areas, so this study contributes to the expansion of knowledge on this topic.Não recebi financiament
