Aleurocystis gloeocystidiata sp. nov. on Polylepis australis in Argentina
The new taxon Aleurocystis gloeocystidiata is described, growing on living ranchlets of Polylepis australis in Central Argentina. It is characterized by a discoid-cupuloid basidiome, ellipsoid basidiospores 17-24 x 12-15 µm, metuloid cystidia, sulfonegative gloeocystidia, clamped, non-gelatinized generative hyphae, and

Hymenochaetaceae from Paraguay: Revision of the family and new records
A synopsis of species of Hymenochaetaceae from five departments of Paraguay (Alto Paraguay, Boqueron, Central, Cordillera and Paraguari) is presented. Thirteen species from nine genera are reported, of which eleven are recorded for the first time. Descriptions and macro-and microscopic illustrations are presented for each species. Pathogenic polypores in Argentina
We surveyed the polypore species associated with living hosts in Argentina. We reviewed the literature on polypores found in Argentina and, in addition with the study of unpublished herbarium material, present a list of 87 species decaying living trees in native forests and introduced plantations. The rot type, host(s), distribution and remarks are presented for each species. Among 87 species found, 71 produce a white rot and 16 a brown rot in wood; 61 species were exclusively found on native hosts and 7 on exotic, cultivated hosts, while 18 were found on both types of substrates; one species, Amylosporus campbellii, was exclusively found associated with grasses. For most cases, there are no pathological studies based on rot measurement and culture isolation to determine incidence and severity of the decay.Fil: Rajchenberg, Mario. South American polypores : first annotated checklist from Argentinean Yungas
A preliminary checklist of the polypore mycota of “Yungas”, subtropical mountain forests of northwestern Argentina, is presented. An intensive search of records
in literature was done, and polypore exsiccatae from that phytogeographic province
kept at the main Argentinean herbaria were studied. A total of 850 specimens were
revised and 111 species were determined. Phellinus laevigatus and Skeletocutis stellae are recorded for the first time in South America; 8 species are new records for Argentina and 31 new records for the region. Bjerkandera carnegieae comb. nov. (Phanerochaetaceae, Polyporales), a wood-decay polypore of cactus
Poria carnegieae was described from Arizona growing on the woody ribs of the saguaro cactus, Carnegiea gigantea, and was transferred to Ceriporiopsis due to morphological evidence. Posterior phylogenetic studies showed a relationship of Poria carnegieae with Bjerkandera. Kavinia chacoserrana sp. nov. (Gomphales, Basidiomycota): a new species from South America based on morphological and molecular data
Kavinia chacoserrana is described as a new species based on morphological data and molecular evidence. The species is characterized by its white to pale yellowish hydnoid hymenophore and cylindrical to fusiform basidiospores measured as 10-12 × 3-4 μm. Wood-decaying polypores in the mountains of central Argentina in relation to Polylepis forest structure and altitude
To determine how altitude and forest successional stage are related to richness and composition of wood-decaying polypore fungi in Polylepis mountain forests of central Argentina we sampled 48 forest plots of 900 m2 which included a range of successional stages and altitudes. We recorded a total of 19 species and our main results show that overall richness increased with forest successional stage and altitude, while endemic species richness was positively related only to altitude. Polypore community structure as exemplified by DCA Axes 1 and 2 was also related only to altitude with no pattern with forest successional stage, meaning polypore species are added during succession with no loss of early successional species. We conclude these forests must be managed to promote more mature forests and emphasis must be placed on a range of altitudes, especially highland areas where slow decomposition allows for a more diverse polypore community.Fil: Robledo, Gerardo Lucio. Neofavolus subpurpurascens comb. nov., with new records from the Neotropics
Polyporus subpurpurascens is a rare Neotropical species characterized by deep purplish pilear surface and radially elongated pores. This study analyzed Neotropical specimens from Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil by applying detailed morphological examination and phylogenetic analyses. We conclude that P. subpurpurascens is a species of Neofavolus, and N. subpurpurascens is proposed as a new combination. Species complexes in Hericium (Russulales, Agaricomycota) and a new species - Hericium rajchenbergii - from southern South America
Species of the genus Hericium are generally recognized by macro-morphology of their basidiomes, while they are very similar in the microscope. As a result, species boundaries are not always clear, and many collections are subsumed under incorrect names. We report on a thorough phylogenetic analysis based on ITS sequences to clarify the application of the most common names in the genus. H. alpestre, H. americanum, and H. erinaceus cannot readily be distinguished by their ITS sequences alone, while they are kept separate by characters from substrate preferences, geographical distribution, and macromorphology. An epitype is selected for H. alpestre. A well supported clade includes H. coralloides together with other, unnamed taxa.
