On solving wave equations on fixed bounded intervals involving Robin boundary conditions with time-dependent coefficients
No full textIn this paper, it is shown how characteristic coordinates, or equivalently how the well-known formula of d'Alembert, can be used to solve initial-boundary value problems for wave equations on fixed, bounded intervals involving Robin type of boundary conditions with time-dependent coefficients. A Robin boundary condition is a condition that specifies a linear combination of the dependent variable and its first order space-derivative on a boundary of the interval. Analytical methods, such as the method of separation of variables (SOV) or the Laplace transform method, are not applicable to those types of problems. The obtained analytical results by applying the proposed method, are in complete agreement with those obtained by using the numerical, finite difference method. No full textLa guerra ha sido considerada por la antropología social como una de las actividades productivas más importantes de las culturas, civilizaciones o sociedades. Ella no solo reconfigura los lazos internos de solidaridad por medio del temor, sino que también continúa el sistema productivo por medio de avance tecnológico. Cuando las sociedades dejan de practicar la guerra simplemente mueren. No obstante, luego del ataque a las Torres Gemelas en Septiembre de 2001, el concepto de guerra ha cambiado radicalmente hasta transformarse en objeto de temor pero también de atracción. Dentro de ese contexto, el presente trabajo indaga sobre el pensamiento de tres especialistas (Paul Virilio, Norbert Elías y Corey Robin) que han hecho del fenómeno su centro de estudio y meditación. Estos exponentes han afirmado que la evolución moral de toda civilización depende de sus oportunidades de asociación ante la guerra y los recursos tecnológicos a su disposición que los lleva a celebrar la guerra e imponer la paz

Valérie Robin Azevedo: Mi interés comenzó con mis estudios de antropología a fines de los años noventa, me llamaba la atención el caso de la guerrilla de Sen-dero Luminoso, 1 pero cuando se lo comenté a mi di-rectora se negó a que estudiara ese tema, diciéndome que era un tema muy denso y podía resultar peligroso hacer trabajo de campo. Entonces, me puse a traba-jar sobre otros temas, en particular de religión, y me dediqué a analizar la relación que une los vivos a sus difuntos y los diversos procesos rituales funerarios en los Andes quechua hablantes de Cuzco, en el sur del Perú. Lo hice desde una perspectiva etnográfica y también histórica interesándome en el del proceso de evangelización y su impacto en la destrucción del cul-to a los ancestros que fueron satanizados para enten-der cómo se reconfiguraba la muerte en esos casos.
